Book excerpt: This brief presents several enhancement modules to Multipath Transmission Control Protocol (MPTCP) in order to support stable and efficient multipath transmission with user cooperation in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The text explains how these enhancements provide a stable aggregate throughput to the upper-layer applications; guarantee a steady goodput, which is the real application-layer perceived throughput; and ensure that the local traffic of the relays is not adversely affected when the relays are forwarding data for the destination. The performance of the proposed solutions is extensively evaluated using various scenarios. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed modules can achieve a stable aggregate throughput and significantly improve the goodput by 1.5 times on average. The brief also shows that these extensions can well respect the local traffic of the relays and motivate the relay users to provide the relaying service.

This book, mostly centered on the scientific and technological aspects of CCAMs, features seven articles highlighting recent advances of the state of the art in different CCAM technologies. Two papers address vehicular platooning, a key application for day-1 automated driving, other presents a scheme to improve the resource utilization of vehicular networks, while another paper addresses critical train communications, proposing an architecture based on 5G, SDN and MPTCP to provide path diversity and end-to-end redundancy. One paper describes the status of roadside deployment activities and analyzes the policies and practices of cooperative driving in the European Union. Finally, two review papers, one on congestion control techniques for VANETs and the other on fault tolerance techniques for vehicular networks, conclude the book.

From the 115 submissions, we ?nally selected 34 full papers and 15 short papers for presentation in the conference technical sessions. The conference technical program was split into three days, and included, in addition to the 49 refereed contributions, 4 invited papers from top-level researchers from the mobile and wireless community. To give researchers the opportunity to present ongoing work, and the novel ideas they are starting to explore, we included in the technical program two work-in-progress sessions and two novel-ideas sessions. The technical program also included a poster session devoted to presenting ongoing research projects on wireless and mobile communications.
