Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The simulation of complex engineering problems often involves an interaction or coupling of individual phenomena, which are traditionally related by themselves to separate fields of applied mechanics. Typical examples of these so-called multifield problems are the thermo-mechanical analysis of solids with coupling between mechanical stress analysis and thermal heat transfer processes, the simulation of coupled deformation and fluid transport mechanisms in porous media, the prediction of mass transprot and phase transition phenomena of mixtures, the analysis of sedimentation processes based on an interaction of particle dynamics and viscous flow, the simulation of multibody systems and fluid-structure interactions based on solid-to-solid and solid-to-fluid contact mechanisms.

Download or read book Analysis and Simulation of Multifield Problems written by Wolfgang L. Wendland and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-10 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis and simulation of multifield problems have recently become one of the most actual and vivid areas of research. Although the individual subproblems of complex technical and physical phenomena often are understood separately, their interaction and coupling create not only new difficulties but also a complete new level and quality of interacting coupled field problems. Presented by leading experts this book includes recent results in these fields from the International Conference on Multifield Problems, April 8-10, 2002 at the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Book Synopsis Spectral Method in Multiaxial Random Fatigue by : Adam Nieslony
Download or read book Spectral Method in Multiaxial Random Fatigue written by Adam Nieslony and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph examines the theoretical foundations of the spectral method for fatigue life determination. The authors discuss a rule of description of random loading states with the matrix of power spectral density functions of the stress/strain tensor components. Some chosen criteria of multiaxial fatigue failure are analyzed. The formula proposed in this book enables readers to determine power spectral density of the equivalent history directly from the components of the power spectral density matrix of the multidimensional stochastic process.

Book Synopsis Numerical Methods for Nonsmooth Dynamical Systems by : Vincent Acary
Download or read book Numerical Methods for Nonsmooth Dynamical Systems written by Vincent Acary and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-01-30 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerns the numerical simulation of dynamical systems whose trajec- ries may not be differentiable everywhere. They are named nonsmooth dynamical systems. They make an important class of systems, rst because of the many app- cations in which nonsmooth models are useful, secondly because they give rise to new problems in various elds of science. Usually nonsmooth dynamical systems are represented as differential inclusions, complementarity systems, evolution va- ational inequalities, each of these classes itself being split into several subclasses. The book is divided into four parts, the rst three parts being sketched in Fig. 0. 1. The aim of the rst part is to present the main tools from mechanics and applied mathematics which are necessary to understand how nonsmooth dynamical systems may be numerically simulated in a reliable way. Many examples illustrate the th- retical results, and an emphasis is put on mechanical systems, as well as on electrical circuits (the so-called Filippov’s systems are also examined in some detail, due to their importance in control applications). The second and third parts are dedicated to a detailed presentation of the numerical schemes. A fourth part is devoted to the presentation of the software platform Siconos. This book is not a textbook on - merical analysis of nonsmooth systems, in the sense that despite the main results of numerical analysis (convergence, order of consistency, etc. ) being presented, their proofs are not provided.

Book Synopsis Identification of Damage Using Lamb Waves by : Zhongqing Su
Download or read book Identification of Damage Using Lamb Waves written by Zhongqing Su and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lamb waves are guided waves that propagate in thin plate or shell structures. There has been a clear increase of interest in using Lamb waves for identifying structural damage, entailing intensive research and development in this field over the past two decades. Now on the verge of maturity for diverse engineering applications, this emerging technique serves as an encouraging candidate for facilitating continuous and automated surveillance of the integrity of engineering structures in a cost-effective manner. In comparison with conventional nondestructive evaluation techniques such as ultrasonic scanning and radiography which have been well developed over half a century, damage identification using Lamb waves is in a stage of burgeoning development, presenting a number of technical challenges in application that need to be addressed and circumvented. It is these two aspects that have encouraged us to write this book, with the intention of consolidating the knowledge and know-how in the field of Lamb-wave-based damage identification, and of promoting widespread attention to mature application of this technique in the practical engineering sphere. This book provides a comprehensive description of key facets of damage identification technique using Lamb waves, based on the authors’ knowledge, comprehension and experience, ranging from fundamental theory through case studies to engineering applications.
