Book Synopsis Remote Sensing Image Analysis: Including the Spatial Domain by : Steven M. de Jong

This book was released on 2007-07-26 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote Sensing image analysis is mostly done using only spectral information on a pixel by pixel basis. Information captured in neighbouring cells, or information about patterns surrounding the pixel of interest often provides useful supplementary information. This book presents a wide range of innovative and advanced image processing methods for including spatial information, captured by neighbouring pixels in remotely sensed images, to improve image interpretation or image classification. Presented methods include different types of variogram analysis, various methods for texture quantification, smart kernel operators, pattern recognition techniques, image segmentation methods, sub-pixel methods, wavelets and advanced spectral mixture analysis techniques. Apart from explaining the working methods in detail a wide range of applications is presented covering land cover and land use mapping, environmental applications such as heavy metal pollution, urban mapping and geological applications to detect hydrocarbon seeps. The book is meant for professionals, PhD students and graduates who use remote sensing image analysis, image interpretation and image classification in their work related to disciplines such as geography, geology, botany, ecology, forestry, cartography, soil science, engineering and urban and regional planning.

Book Synopsis Optical Remote Sensing of Ocean Hydrodynamics by : Victor Raizer
Download or read book Optical Remote Sensing of Ocean Hydrodynamics written by Victor Raizer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical Remote Sensing is one of the main technologies used in sea surface monitoring. Optical Remote Sensing of Ocean Hydrodynamics investigates and demonstrates capabilities of optical remote sensing technology for enhanced observations and detection of ocean environments. It provides extensive knowledge of physical principles and capabilities of optical observations of the oceans at high spatial resolution, 1-4m, and on the observations of surface wave hydrodynamic processes. It also describes the implementation of spectral-statistical and fusion algorithms for analyses of multispectral optical databases and establishes physics-based criteria for detection of complex wave phenomena and hydrodynamic disturbances including assessment and management of optical databases. This book explains the physical principles of high-resolution optical imagery of the ocean surface, discusses for the first time the capabilities of observing hydrodynamic processes and events, and emphasizes the integration of optical measurements and enhanced data analysis. It also covers both the assessment and the interpretation of dynamic multispectral optical databases and includes applications for advanced studies and nonacoustic detection. This book is an invaluable resource for researches, industry professionals, engineers, and students working on cross-disciplinary problems in ocean hydrodynamics, optical remote sensing of the ocean and sea surface remote sensing. Readers in the fields of geosciences and remote sensing, applied physics, oceanography, satellite observation technology, and optical engineering will learn the theory and practice of optical interactions with the ocean.

Book Synopsis Handbook Of Pattern Recognition And Computer Vision (5th Edition) by : Chi Hau Chen
Download or read book Handbook Of Pattern Recognition And Computer Vision (5th Edition) written by Chi Hau Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pattern recognition, image processing and computer vision are closely linked areas which have seen enormous progress in the last fifty years. Their applications in our daily life, commerce and industry are growing even more rapidly than theoretical advances. Hence, the need for a new handbook in pattern recognition and computer vision every five or six years as envisioned in 1990 is fully justified and valid. The book consists of three parts: (1) Pattern recognition methods and applications; (2) Computer vision and image processing; and (3) Systems, architecture and technology. This book is intended to capture the major developments in pattern recognition and computer vision though it is impossible to cover all topics. The chapters are written by experts from many countries, fully reflecting the strong international research interests in the areas. This fifth edition will complement the previous four editions of the book.

Book Synopsis Perceptual Metrics for Image Database Navigation by : Yossi Rubner
Download or read book Perceptual Metrics for Image Database Navigation written by Yossi Rubner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increasing number of images available electronically, automatic retrieval systems are becoming essential. This book introduces an absolute prerequisite for any such system: a metric, called the Earth Mover's Distance (EMD), for comparing images in terms of their appearance. This metric describes the amount of work that is necessary to transform one image into another, in a precisely defined mathematical sense, and in a flexible and perceptually meaningful manner. An efficient linear programming algorithm enables the computation of this metric fast enough to be used for the interactive retrieval of images from large repositories. The perceptual properties of the EMD, and the speed of its computation, lead to database navigation, a new paradigm for interacting with a repository of images. When navigating, the user is shown a very large number of images in response to a query. The EMD between pairs of images, together with a multidimensional scaling method, allows these images to be displayed so that similar images appear near to each other on the computer screen. In this way, the user can grasp at a glance what is returned, and can reach the images of interest with a small number of mouse clicks. Extensive benchmark evaluations and example retrieval systems show the usefulness of the EMD and the advantages of image database navigation. This book will be of interest to researchers, industrial professionals, and graduate and post-graduate students in the fields of Computer Vision; Image Processing; Data Mining; Digital Libraries; Psychophysics; Computer Science; Electrical Engineering.
Book Synopsis Object-Based Image Analysis by : Thomas Blaschke
Download or read book Object-Based Image Analysis written by Thomas Blaschke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-09 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a collection of invited interdisciplinary persp- tives on the recent topic of Object-based Image Analysis (OBIA). Its c- st tent is based on select papers from the 1 OBIA International Conference held in Salzburg in July 2006, and is enriched by several invited chapters. All submissions have passed through a blind peer-review process resulting in what we believe is a timely volume of the highest scientific, theoretical and technical standards. The concept of OBIA first gained widespread interest within the GIScience (Geographic Information Science) community circa 2000, with the advent of the first commercial software for what was then termed ‘obje- oriented image analysis’. However, it is widely agreed that OBIA builds on older segmentation, edge-detection and classification concepts that have been used in remote sensing image analysis for several decades. Nevert- less, its emergence has provided a new critical bridge to spatial concepts applied in multiscale landscape analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the synergy between image-objects and their radiometric char- teristics and analyses in Earth Observation data (EO).
