Book Synopsis Spline Functions and Multivariate Interpolations by : Borislav D. Bojanov

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spline functions entered Approximation Theory as solutions of natural extremal problems. A typical example is the problem of drawing a function curve through given n + k points that has a minimal norm of its k-th derivative. Isolated facts about the functions, now called splines, can be found in the papers of L. Euler, A. Lebesgue, G. Birkhoff, J. Favard, L. Tschakaloff. However, the Theory of Spline Functions has developed in the last 30 years by the effort of dozens of mathematicians. Recent fundamental results on multivariate polynomial interpolation and multivari ate splines have initiated a new wave of theoretical investigations and variety of applications. The purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to the theory of spline functions. The emphasis is given to some new developments, such as the general Birkoff's type interpolation, the extremal properties of the splines and their prominant role in the optimal recovery of functions, multivariate interpolation by polynomials and splines. The material presented is based on the lectures of the authors, given to the students at the University of Sofia and Yerevan University during the last 10 years. Some more elementary results are left as excercises and detailed hints are given.

Book Synopsis Methods of Shape-preserving Spline Approximation by : Boris I. Kvasov
Download or read book Methods of Shape-preserving Spline Approximation written by Boris I. Kvasov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to develop algorithms of shape-preserving spline approximation for curves/surfaces with automatic choice of the tension parameters. The resulting curves/surfaces retain geometric properties of the initial data, such as positivity, monotonicity, convexity, linear and planar sections. The main tools used are generalized tension splines and B-splines. A difference method for constructing tension splines is also developed which permits one to avoid the computation of hyperbolic functions and provides other computational advantages. The algorithms of monotonizing parametrization described improve an adequate representation of the resulting shape-preserving curves/surfaces. Detailed descriptions of algorithms are given, with a strong emphasis on their computer implementation. These algorithms can be applied to solve many problems in computer-aided geometric design.
Book Synopsis Signal Processing Applications Using Multidimensional Polynomial Splines by : Dhananjay Singh
Download or read book Signal Processing Applications Using Multidimensional Polynomial Splines written by Dhananjay Singh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights new methods, algorithms and software for the digital processing and recovery of signals. In addition, it describes a new method for modeling one dimensional and multidimensional signals as successions of local polynomial splines and their spectral characteristics. It provides examples of how the proposed methods can be applied in specific cases, together with signal processing software examples in the MATLAB environment, and models of special processes in the Simulink environment. The book’s goal is to make it easier for beginners to understand the subject matter; it is intended for engineers, undergraduate and graduate students engaged in research or the evaluation and design of hardware and software for the digital processing and recovery of signals.

Book Synopsis Splines and Variational Methods by : P. M. Prenter
Download or read book Splines and Variational Methods written by P. M. Prenter and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the clearest available introductions to variational methods, this text requires only a minimal background in calculus and linear algebra. Its self-contained treatment explains the application of theoretic notions to the kinds of physical problems that engineers regularly encounter. The text’s first half concerns approximation theoretic notions, exploring the theory and computation of one- and two-dimensional polynomial and other spline functions. Later chapters examine variational methods in the solution of operator equations, focusing on boundary value problems in one and two dimensions. Additional topics include least squares and other Galerkin methods. Many helpful definitions, examples, and exercises appear throughout the book. A classic reference in spline theory, this volume will benefit experts as well as students of engineering and mathematics.
