Book Synopsis Workshop on Molecular Dynamics on Parallel Computers by : Rdiger Esser
Download or read book Workshop on Molecular Dynamics on Parallel Computers written by Rdiger Esser and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular dynamics is a well-established technique for simulating complex many-particle systems in many areas of physics, chemistry, and astrophysics. The huge computational requirements for simulations of large systems, especially with long-range forces, demand the use of massively parallel computers. Designing efficient algorithms for these problems is a highly non-trivial task. This book contains the invited talks and abstracts presented at a conference by more than 100 researchers from various fields: computer science, solid state physics, high energy physics, polymers, biochemistry, granular materials and astrophysics. Most of the contributions have been written by users of massively parallel computers and deal with practical issues, but there are also contributions tackling more fundamental algorithmic problems.
Book Synopsis Numerical Challenges in Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics by : Andreas Frommer
Download or read book Numerical Challenges in Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics written by Andreas Frommer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lattice gauge theory is a fairly young research area in Theoretical Particle Physics. It is of great promise as it offers the framework for an ab-initio treatment of the nonperturbative features of strong interactions. Ever since its adolescence the simulation of quantum chromodynamics has attracted the interest of numerical analysts and there is growing interdisciplinary engage ment between theoretical physicists and applied mathematicians to meet the grand challenges of this approach. This volume contains contributions of the interdisciplinary workshop "Nu merical Challenges in Lattice Quantum Chromo dynamics" that the Institute of Applied Computer Science (IAI) at Wuppertal University together with the Von-Neumann-Institute-for-Computing (NIC) organized in August 1999. The purpose of the workshop was to offer a platform for the exchange of key ideas between lattice QCD and numerical analysis communities. In this spirit leading experts from both fields have put emphasis to transcend the barriers between the disciplines. The meetings was focused on the following numerical bottleneck problems: A standard topic from the infancy of lattice QCD is the computation of Green's functions, the inverse of the Dirac operator. One has to solve huge sparse linear systems in the limit of small quark masses, corresponding to high condition numbers of the Dirac matrix. Closely related is the determination of flavor-singlet observables which came into focus during the last years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of recent progress in computer simulations of nonperturbative phenomena in quantum field theory, particularly in the context of the lattice approach. It is a collection of extensive self-contained reviews of various subtopics, including algorithms, spectroscopy, finite temperature physics, Yukawa and chiral theories, bounds on the Higgs meson mass, the renormalization group, and weak decays of hadrons.Physicists with some knowledge of lattice gauge ideas will find this book a useful and interesting source of information on the recent developments in the field.

Book Synopsis 50 Years of Yang-Mills Theory by : G. 't Hooft
Download or read book 50 Years of Yang-Mills Theory written by G. 't Hooft and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Roman Catholic faith has inspired some of the world's greatest creative works and has been a powerful force in history from the Roman Empire to the present. Catholic writers reflect their heritage in their works, and generations of readers have continued to appreciate the Catholic literary tradition. Many works by Catholic writers hold a high place in the literary canon and have exerted a tremendous cultural and political influence. Still others continue to be widely read by contemporary readers and quietly shape modern society. Some works, too, reflect the conflicts of the Catholic Church in the 21st century and capture the struggles of individual Catholics in a secular society. This encyclopedia covers the vast riches of the Catholic literary tradition from its origins to the present day. Included are substantial entries on more than 70 major works from around the world. A special effort has been made to cover women writers and writers of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, whose works reflect the many dimensions of the Catholic experience. The encyclopedia provides entries on such writers and works as St. Augustine's Confessions, Catherine of Siena's Dialogue, Dante's The Divine Comedy, Sandra Cisneros' The House on Mango Street, J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, and Muriel Spark's Memento Mori. Each entry is written by an expert contributor and includes a biography of the writer, a plot summary of a major work, an extended critical discussion, an overview of the work's critical reception, and a selected bibliography. The entries give detailed attention to particular works and explore their relation to Catholic thought. The encyclopedia concludes with a selected, general bibliography.
