Book Synopsis Critical Issues in User Interface Systems Engineering by : David Benyon
Download or read book Critical Issues in User Interface Systems Engineering written by David Benyon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book developed from an IFIP workshop which brought together methods and architecture researchers in Human Computer Interaction and Software Engineering. To an extent this introduction is a little unfair to the authors, as we have distilled the results of the workshop to give the reader a perspective of the problems within integrated approaches to usability engineering. The papers could not hope to address all ofthe issues; however, we hope that a framework will help the reader gainfurther insights into current research andfuture practice. The initial motivation was to bring together researchers and practitioners to exchange their experiences on Graphical User Interface (Gill) design problems. The two groups represented methodological and architecture/tools interests, so the workshop focused on intersection of how methods can support user interface development and vice versa, how tools, architectures and reusable components can empower the design process. There is, we believe, a constructive tension between these two communities. Methodologists tend to approach the design problem with task/domain/organisational analysis while the tool builders suggest design empowerment/envisioning as a means ofimproving the way users work rather than relying on analysis ofcurrent systems. This debate revolves around the questions of whether users' current work is optimal, or whether designers have the insight to empower users by creating effective solutions to their problems. Tool builders typically want to build something, then get the users to try it, while the methodologists want to specify something, validate it and then build it.

Book Synopsis A Reference Guide for English Studies by : Michael J. Marcuse
Download or read book A Reference Guide for English Studies written by Michael J. Marcuse and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious undertaking is designed to acquaint students, teachers, and researchers with reference sources in any branch of English studies, which Marcuse defines as "all those subjects and lines of critical and scholarly inquiry presently pursued by members of university departments of English language and literature.'' Within each of 24 major sections, Marcuse lists and annotates bibliographies, guides, reviews of research, encyclopedias, dictionaries, journals, and reference histories. The annotations and various indexes are models of clarity and usefulness, and cross references are liberally supplied where appropriate. Although cost-conscious librarians will probably consider the several other excellent literary bibliographies in print, such as James L. Harner's Literary Research Guide (Modern Language Assn. of America, 1989), larger academic libraries will want Marcuse's volume.-- Jack Bales, Mary Washington Coll. Book Synopsis Colorful Crochet Cables by : Noelle R. B. Stiles
Download or read book Colorful Crochet Cables written by Noelle R. B. Stiles and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-07-16 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don't be afraid to mix colors and cables! The often-repeated advice that it is best to choose solid-color yarns when you crochet cables is not always true. With a little bit of knowledge and planning, you can crochet beautiful Celtic cables and enhance the design with your choice of a multicolored yarn. Author Noelle R. B. Stiles is a vision scientist and has done extensive research into the art and science of color play (so that you don't have to!). What she brings to this book is the practical side of color usage. She gives you a broad look at how colors and designs work together and illustrates how color choices affect the final outcome of your crochet pieces. She specifically sets out to prove that multicolored yarns should not be sidelined in your textured crochet pieces and can be used to great advantage. With practical examples and 20 patterns, she shows how crochet designs can feature both a multicolored yarn and an intricate cable to gorgeous effect. Patterns include eye-catching scarves, hats, mitts, blanket, cardigan, and more. If you are new to cabling, there are step-by-step instructions and several beginner patterns. Pull out your favorite hand-painted or variegated yarn and give it a try!
Book Synopsis Design and Implementation of Symbolic Computation Systems by : John Fitch
Download or read book Design and Implementation of Symbolic Computation Systems written by John Fitch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-09-02 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DISCO 92 was held on the Newton Park campus of Bath College of Higher Education, England, April 13-15, 1992. Beside the formal lectures dedicated to design and implementation issues of computer algebra, there were several software demonstrations and an opportunity for system designers to compare systems. This volume presents the proceedings of the conference. It contains 18 papers on a variety of design and implementation issues. One general theme which clearly emerges is the need for interconnections between systems, as no one systems incorporates all the facilities that users want. Various effortsare being made to design such links, but generally in limited contexts (suchas the Maple project or the Posso project).
