Download or read book Aluminum-silicon Casting Alloys written by Malgorzata Warmuzek and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas provides an in-depth understanding of the metallurgy and fracture behavior of aluminum-silicon casting alloys, which are used in a wide variety of automotive, aerospace, and consumer product applications. The atlas includes over 300 high-definition microfractographs of fracture profiles and fracture surfaces, accompanied with detailed descriptions and analysis of the fracture features and their significance in the selection, processing, properties, and performance of the alloy. The microfractographs are described and classified according to criteria described in detail in the introductory chapters in the book. The factors determining the fracture mechanism in these alloys, on the basis of their physical and mechanical properties and fracture mechanics, are described and analyzed. The set of micrographs in this atlas include several unique features: classification according to the alloy and its processing history, detailed analysis of selected microregions of the fracture surface, reference of the fracture features to the phase constituents of the alloy, and high resolution and high microscopic magnification of the SEM images. This book will be of great value to anyone involved in the selection, processing, application, testing, or evaluation of aluminum-silicon castings. The target audience includes metallurgists, foundry personnel, failure analysts, purchasers of castings, researchers in physical and mechanical metallurgy, students, and educators.

Download or read book Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist, Second Edition written by Arthur C. Reardon and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The completely revised Second Edition of Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist provides a solid understanding of the basic principles and current practices of metallurgy. This major new edition is for anyone who uses, makes, buys or tests metal products. For both beginners and others seeking a basic refresher, the new Second Edition of the popular Metallurgy for the Non-Metallurgist gives an all-new modern view on the basic principles and practices of metallurgy. This new edition is extensively updated with broader coverage of topics, new and improved illustrations, and more explanation of basic concepts. Why are cast irons so suitable for casting? Do some nonferrous alloys respond to heat treatment like steels? Why is corrosion so pernicious? These are questions that can be answered in this updated reference with many new illustrations, examples, and descriptions of basic metallurgy.

Book Synopsis The Effects of Copper and Magnesium Additions to Hypereutectic Aluminum-silicon Alloys Prepared by Powder Metallurgy by :
Download or read book The Effects of Copper and Magnesium Additions to Hypereutectic Aluminum-silicon Alloys Prepared by Powder Metallurgy written by and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In previous work, it was shown that hypereutectic aluminum-silicon alloys with up to 45% Si can be produced with refined silicon phase by powder metallurgy techniques without the use of nucleation catalysts. Pre-alloyed powders were produced by atomization and the powders were consolidated by hot pressing. This investigation observed the effect of additions of copper and magnesium on the properties of the Al-35% Si alloy produced in the same manner.
Book Synopsis Effect of Iron and Silicon in Aluminium and its Alloys by : I. Kovács
Download or read book Effect of Iron and Silicon in Aluminium and its Alloys written by I. Kovács and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iron and silicon are the main impurites in aluminium: they are always present in alloys made from commercially pure base materials. Both impurities form various intermetallic compounds. These particles can cause basic changes in the macroscopic properties of the aluminium alloys and are thus of special technological interest.
Book Synopsis Effects of Trisilanol Polyhedral Silsesquioxanes Additions on Aluminum Alloys by : Yuxiang Zhong
Download or read book Effects of Trisilanol Polyhedral Silsesquioxanes Additions on Aluminum Alloys written by Yuxiang Zhong and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the automotive industry, aluminum alloys are of particular interests in providing the fuel economy needed to meet the required Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards. Current commercial cast aluminum alloys use Strontium (Sr) to modify the eutectic silicon morphology leading to improve ductility. However, the fading of Sr addition effect at the molten temperature remains as a major concern. Recently, it was demonstrated that the addition of nanostructured silanol based on polyhedral silsesquioxanes to cast aluminum alloys provided the refinement of eutectic silicon morphology without fading when held at molten temperature up to 96 hours. In addition, using master ingots containing nanostructured silanols, large-scale commercial alloys have been successfully modified. In this work, aluminum coated with nanostructured silanol of different chemical moieties were investigated. The contact angle measurement and powder sedimentation experiments have shown the increase in the hydrophobicity with nanostructured silanol coating. In addition, durability of the coating was also examined. Secondly, we investigated the electrochemical behavior of several casted aluminum alloys. The open circuit potential measurement and potentiodynamic polarization measurement show that the microstructure refinement with Sr or TSP will not affect the corrosion behavior on the hypo-eutectic Al-Si alloys but will reduce the anodic current density of the eutectic Al-Si alloys.
