Download or read book Plant Cell Morphogenesis written by Fatima Cvrčková and published by Humana. This book was released on 2019-05-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects techniques to continue exploring post-genomic land plant biology though the wisdom and skills accumulated from work on the founding molecular biology models that can now guide research into other species, including crop plants. Beginning with the visualization of plant cell structures, the volume moves on to cover digital image analysis protocols, qualitative and quantitative detection of the organization and dynamics of individual intracellular structures, the manipulation of intracellular structures, as well as techniques for studying model cell types. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and fully updated, Plant Cell Morphogenesis: Methods and Protocols, Second Edition serves as an ideal source of inspiration for further research into the morphogenesis of plant cells, tissues, and organs.
Download or read book Phyllotaxis written by Roger V. Jean and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-01-28 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the many facets of phyllotaxis are dealt with in an integrated manner. The author describes a unified concept of phyllotaxis, and presents a mathematical model of plant growth based on experimental, anatomical, cellular, physiological, and paleontological observations. The model not only provides a framework for formal analyses of botanical data, but also emphasizes the relevance of phyllotaxis to other structures, such as crystals, and proteins.
Book Synopsis Mechanisms of Morphogenesis by : Jamie A. Davies
Download or read book Mechanisms of Morphogenesis written by Jamie A. Davies and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-02-18 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Morphogenesis is the set of processes that generate shape and form in the embryo--an important area within developmental biology. An exciting and up-to-the-minute account of the very latest research into the factors that create biological form, Mechanisms of Morphogenesis, second edition is a text reference on the mechanisms of cell and tissue morphogenesis in a diverse array of organisms, including prokaryotes, animals, plants and fungi. By combining hard data with computer modeling, Mechanisms of Morphogenesis, second edition equips readers with a much broader understanding of the scope of modern research than is otherwise available. The book focuses on the ways in which the genetic program is translated to generate cell shape, to direct cell migration, and to produce the shape, form and rates of growth of the various tissues. Each topic is illustrated with experimental data from real systems, with particular reference to gaps in current knowledge and pointers to future Includes over 200 four-color figures Offers an integrated view of theoretical developmental biology and computer modelling with laboratory-based discoveries Covers experimental techniques as a guide to the reader Organized around principles and mechanisms, using them to integrate discoveries from a range of organisms and systems

Book Synopsis Contemporary Problems in Plant Anatomy by : Richard White
Download or read book Contemporary Problems in Plant Anatomy written by Richard White and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary Problems in Plant Anatomy contains the proceedings of a plant anatomy symposium that took place at Duke University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983. The symposium addressed challenges in four basic research areas in contemporary plant anatomy: leaf development, floral development, differentiation of cells and tissues, and systematic and ecological anatomy. The book highlights new techniques and approaches for dealing with problems in each of these areas. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the stem-conducting tissues in monocotyledons; the development of vascular tissue patterns in the shoot apex of ferns; the role of subsidiary trace bundles in stem and leaf development of the dicotyledoneae; and the structure of phloem. It then discusses the cellular parameters of leaf morphogenesis in maize and tobacco; alternative modes of organogenesis in higher plants; morphological aspects of leaf development in ferns and angiosperms; the origin of symmetry in flowers; and intraspecific floral variation. The reader is also introduced to structural correlations among wood, leaves, and plant habit; relationships between structure and function in trees; and the development of inflorescence, androecium, and gynoecium with reference to palms. This book is a valuable source of information for plant anatomists.

Download or read book Morphogenesis written by P.T. Saunders and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-11-26 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collected works of Turing, including a substantial amount of unpublished material, will comprise four volumes: Mechanical Intelligence, Pure Mathematics, Morphogenesis and Mathematical Logic. Alan Mathison Turing (1912-1954) was a brilliant man who made major contributions in several areas of science. Today his name is mentioned frequently in philosophical discussions about the nature of Artificial Intelligence. Actually, he was a pioneer researcher in computer architecture and software engineering; his work in pure mathematics and mathematical logic extended considerably further and his last work, on morphogenesis in plants, is also acknowledged as being of the greatest originality and of permanent importance. He was one of the leading figures in Twentieth-century science, a fact which would have been known to the general public sooner but for the British Official Secrets Act, which prevented discussion of his wartime work. What is maybe surprising about these papers is that although they were written decades ago, they address major issues which concern researchers today.

Book Synopsis Somatic Embryogenesis in Woody Plants by : S. Mohan Jain
Download or read book Somatic Embryogenesis in Woody Plants written by S. Mohan Jain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-09-30 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid progress on somatic embryogenesis and its prospects for potential application to improving woody plants prompted us to edit this book initially in three volumes, and now an additional three more volumes. We were all convinced that such a treatise was needed and would be extremely useful to researchers and students. This volume 6 is dedicated to Prof. Harry Waris, Helsinki, Finland, who did pioneer work on somatic embryogenesis during the time when Prof. Steward and others were actively engaged in this area. His former student Prof. Liisa Simols, University of Helsinki, Finland, has written a dedication `Harry Waris, a pioneer in somatic embryogenesis' to her teacher Prof. Waris. This volume is divided into three sections and contains a total of 26 chapters. Section A comprises seven chapters covering topics such as: Historical insights into some contemporary problems in somatic embryogenesis (SE); Thin cell layer for somatic embryogenesis induction in woody trees; SE in tropical fruit and forest trees; SE in fruit and forest arid trees; Status of SE in Indian forest trees; SE research in fruit trees in India; Applications of SE for the improvement of tropical fruit trees. Section B comprises 15 chapters, dealing with: SE in oil palm, hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.), pistachio (Pistacia vera L.), Araucaria angustifolia, Quercus suber, Aspidosperma polyneuron, Acacia senegal, Simmondsia chiensis, Cupressus sempervirens, pecan (Carya illinoinensis), rattan (Calamus spp.), tamarillo (Cyphomandra betacea, longan (Dimocarpus longan Lor.), Aegle marmelos, and Euonymus europaeus. Section C comprises three chapters related to cryo-storage of citrus, conifers and rubber. All the chapters have been peer-reviewed and revised accordingly to improve the quality of the chapters. We are thankful to all: (a) contributory authors for their co-operation in submitting manuscripts in time, and (b) reviewers for spending their valuable time in reviewing the manuscripts.
