Book Synopsis The Complete Book of Anchoring and Mooring by : Earl R. Hinz
Download or read book The Complete Book of Anchoring and Mooring written by Earl R. Hinz and published by Cornell Maritime Press/Tidewater Publishers. This book was released on 1994 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Complete Book addresses anchoring systems, techniques, and permanent moorings for boats from 12 to 80 feet in length. It covers monohulls, multihulls, light displacement sailboats, cruisers, sportfishers, passagemakers, and workboats. In short, it is for all recreational and working boats in this size range. The book deals not only with anchor behavior, but also with the rode assembly, riding stoppers, and the human factors. What formerly was thought of as strength through size (heavy anchors and large rodes) has been refined to decrease weight, lighten loads on the boat, and reduce difficulty in handling. Utilizing a systems approach with respect to equipment and techniques and analytical methods for loads, Earl R. Hinz has made a number of contributions to the state of the art. Among them are bow anchor roller design, chain locker and navel pipe design, elastic anchoring techniques, tandem anchor systems design, and designs for permanent moorings. Sections on ground tackle selection, tandem anchoring techniques, anchoring in coral, and improving hurricane moorings have been revised. Most of these designs and techniques are clearly illustrated in the schematic drawings by Richard R. Rhodes. The latest information on electric windlass troubleshooting, new anchor designs, anchor test data, use of screw anchors for more secure moorings, design of moorings for coral seabeds, and anchoring jurisdictional conflicts makes this second edition a state-of-the-art source book for the boating world.

Book Synopsis MARINAS and Small Craft Harbors by : Bruce O. Tobiasson
Download or read book MARINAS and Small Craft Harbors written by Bruce O. Tobiasson and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991-10-31 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MARINAS and Small Craft Barbors defines the state-of-the-art in marina and small craft harbor planning, design, and construction. Its authors are experienced teachers and practicing professionals. Their contribution through this book will be recognized for many years to come-both herein North America and in the many countries throughout the world now developing recreational facilities. Our engineering outreach program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has for nearly two decades affered an annual state-of-the-art conference on marina planning, design, and construction. The conference has been built on meeting educational needs of professionals practicing in this field. The authors, Bruce Tobiasson and Ron Kollmeyer, have for many years partici pated as guest faculty at these conferences. By having done so, they have sharpened their instructional skills, broadened their knowledge base about state-of-the-art practice, and developed a compassion to help others in the field. MARINAS and Small Craft Barbors is a very comprehensive and readable work and belongs in the hands of all those people responsible for planning and building waterfront facilities in the 1990s and beyond. I commend the authors for their excellent work.

This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mooring system is a vital component of various floating facilities in the oil, gas, and renewables industries. However, there is a lack of comprehensive technical books dedicated to the subject. Mooring System Engineering for Offshore Structures is the first book delivering in-depth knowledge on all aspects of mooring systems, from design and analysis to installation, operation, maintenance and integrity management. The book gives beginners a solid look at the fundamentals involved during mooring designs with coverage on current standards and codes, mooring analysis and theories behind the analysis techniques. Advanced engineers can stay up-to-date through operation, integrity management, and practical examples provided. This book is recommended for students majoring in naval architecture, marine or ocean engineering, and allied disciplines in civil or mechanical engineering. Engineers and researchers in the offshore industry will benefit from the knowledge presented to understand the various types of mooring systems, their design, analysis, and operations. Understand the various types of mooring systems and the theories behind mooring analysis Gain practical experience and lessons learned from worldwide case studies Combine engineering fundamentals with practical applications to solve today’s offshore challenges

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was conducted to determine the dynamic characteristics of small boats moored with non-linear-elastic lines in an asymmetrical manner. The motions being considered are surge motions where the moored boat is allowed to move either in the direction of the bow or the stern, but not in other coordinate directions. An analytical model is proposed where the small boat is simulated by a block-body which is moored asymmetrically to a fixed dock. A method is developed from which the nonlinear restoring forces and the dynamic response of the boat in surge can be obtained. (Author Modified Abstract).
