Book excerpt: Sometimes I wonder in the nighttime airAs the day ends and the darkness draws nearIf the same moon you are looking at thereIs the same moon thatys shining on me here The same moon we danced under every night To the rhythm of the beats of our heartsThe same moon that sparked the love in our eyesBut that love that we shared just fell apart And all I have are moonlit memories Of the times me and you shared togetherOur walks and our talks are nothing but dreamsDreams that were supposed to last forever Our walks and our talks are nothing but dreams And all I have, are moonlit memories

Book excerpt: The face and the body with a reflection, but to life no one is there. A beating pulse, a heart of visceral emotions, warm tears to cry, a mind of relative thoughts. As real as an image but unviable to touch, it must be a human, it must be a hologram. Eve Lauren Chilicas invites others to take a cosmic journey into the metaphysics of the mind and soul while she explores the unknown, truths, and phenomena through lyrical verse. In a style as diverse as her collection, Chilicas brings to life her poetic visions in a broad range of topics that progress through the duality of fact or fiction while uniquely delving into the inner world of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. From a mystic dream to a shooting star and from biblical allegories of our Savior Christ to angels and dark forces to the cosmic universe and spiritual awareness, Chilicas encourages others to cross the dimension into a new world of relative conscience and open their minds to the endless possibilities. Supernatural shares a collection of poetry that innovatively intertwines personal themes and science fiction elements that offer a means to view the universe in a new way.

Book excerpt: Living by the stream of thought, memory, feeling emotion, fear, hope and pain, The Unknown will help the readers examine the meaning of these destinies. There is a dialogue, a lot of it but much of it is an exchange with a person entirely named "Angel", Jemila exchanges views and perspectives on life, love and the universe with this Angel. The dialogue lasts throughout the book. Angel speaks from the very first page and the very last and everywhere in between. Whoever this Angel ends up being, the is very important in the scheme of the novel. The story, the events of the novel are not related in the straightforward manner. Events, what little there are, are explained through the consciousness of the protagonist and almost never described physically as the mental and emotional world of Jemila's own mind. It is very much an interior narrative of Jemila's own mind and soul, a logbook, diary of the conscious mind of the protagonist. With a flair for poetry and inspirational stories, this novel is laced with poetic interludes and epigraphs. It flows like a river, in fact a river of consciousness. Through the novel, there is a lot of interior strength of character. I paint portraits of strong people who have a sense of interior, self worth and self esteem who seek to make the world over into images of themselves. Jemila may not be a strong person in the usual sense, but she tends to make the world over in her image. The world is the contents of her mind, and vice versa. Her mind is the outside world, in a sense. It is mostly about Jemila remembering events in the lives of a family, that lead to the central flaw or strength of character(s) and understanding how a character will act in the story. Through the dialogue with Angel, Jemila finds true strength from Angel's words and from that she decides that we are most alike in our feelings and least alike in our thinking. Angel's visit to Jemila through dream, brings about a new beginning to Jemila's stream of thought, memory, feelings, emotions, fears and pains and replaces it all with a new chance to live.

Download or read book The Assistant written by Bernard Malamud and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2003-07-07 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Intimate Window into the American Immigrant Experience Morris Bober, the family patriarch, yearns for better fortune as he runs a grocery store, never expecting how two robbers would change his life. Working alongside Morris, Frank Alpine, with his own complex relationship with the Jewish community, finds himself entangled in a web of emotions and conflicting actions. As he becomes smitten with Helen Bober, he simultaneously finds himself embroiled in acts of theft. This tale of love, family, and ambition sits within the broader landscape of a New York cityscape steeped in a vibrant mix of Italian-American and Jewish cultures. The stark realities of 1950s Brooklyn color this narrative in a way that is as vivid as it is compelling. Like Malamud's best stories, this novel unerringly evokes an immigrant world of cramped circumstances and great expectations. With a blend of contemporary American literature and psychological fiction, Malamud offers an inimitable insight into the nuances of immigrant family life while shedding light on the universal human experience.
