Download or read book Speaking of Teaching . . . written by Avraham Cohen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-23 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching is a richly multifaceted endeavor. It isn’t always easy to know just where we should focus our thinking and our dialogue. In Speaking of Teaching, six educators talk about their inner selves. They bring the inside out for their own self-exploration. And they bring the inside out for us to view and learn from. They also question the boundaries between the inner and the outer and whether existence can be dichotomized in this way. Gary Poole, Professor, Faculty of Medicine, The University of British Columbia, 3M Teaching Fellow. The authors of this collection explore the many ways to remain present in the midst of the trifling but perpetual swirl of events, thoughts, distractions, and how they, as they are at, what T. S. Eliot called, the still point of the turning world, find profound meaning in their work as educators. A deeply moving collection that allowed me too, while reading it, to rediscover that still point without which there would be no dance, and there is only the dance. Book excerpt: In many parts of the world there is a gathering groundswell of women seeking to reclaim their own direct experience of spiritual vision. The Goddess has become one of the most potent images of our time. Women are personally and collectively recovering their voices. Ladder to the Moon is a journey of discovery - meetings with women, like the author herself, who are asking, "What happened to the feminine aspect of the Divine? Was it ever there? If it was, can we reclaim it and come in from the cold? How can a woman, discouraged by the misogyny of most religions, begin to find a meaningful path?" The book is warmly personal and anecdotal - an Everywoman's search.

Book Synopsis The Olive Grove by : Charlotte Grimshaw
Download or read book The Olive Grove written by Charlotte Grimshaw and published by Penguin Random House New Zealand Limited. This book was released on 2013-05-03 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An evocative short story from an internationally acclaimed, prize-winning author. Five-year-old Emily is in Menton, France, where her father is on a Katherine Mansfield Fellowship. Both touching and thoughtful, the story follows her emerging perception of the adult world, a world already foreign to her New Zealand eyes. With a nod to Mansfield's tone and imagery, and to her story 'The Dove's Nest', Grimshaw explores the protean nature of personality, shifting identities and masks. The accessible and endearing viewpoint of five-year-old Emily leads us into this clever story and its many layers.

Book Synopsis Bye Bye, Black Sheep by : Simon Winter
Download or read book Bye Bye, Black Sheep written by Simon Winter and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011-05-19 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Bye Bye, Black Sheep' is a coming-of-age story about three young South Africans (two black and one white; two boys and one girl) set against the background of apartheid. It is a gripping adventure story with elements of mystery and suspense, but it also explores such universal themes as the quest for identity, unreasonable parental expectations, inter-racial relationships, racism and patriotism, and, most crucially, loyalty and betrayal. It acknowledges the complexity of such issues and avoids providing glib answers. The narrator is Chris Bates, an insecure young man, who turns out to be something of an anti-hero. His best friend (and rival) is Goodwill Mavume, who has great potential, but is racked by internal conflict. Goodwill's younger sister, Miriam, is a bright and vivacious young woman who falls in love with Chris. The constraints of boarding school life, the unrealistic expectations of parents, the clash of cultures, the sinister intrigues of the security police, and their own impetuosity all have a devastating impact on the lives of these young people. As with any tragedy, there is much in this novel that is uplifting and noble. The characters will certainly live with you long after you've shared their story.
