Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macroeconomics: An Introduction, provides a lucid and novel introduction to macroeconomic issues. It introduces the reader to an alternative approach of understanding macroeconomics, which is inspired by the works of Adam Smith, David Ricardo, Karl Marx, John Maynard Keynes, and Piero Sraffa. It also presents the reader with a critical account of mainstream marginalist macroeconomics. The book begins with a brief history of economic theories and then takes the reader through three different ways of conceptualizing the macroeconomy. Subsequently, the theories of money and interest rates, output and employment levels, and economic growth are discussed. The book ends by providing a policy template for addressing the macroeconomic concerns of unemployment and inflation. The conceptual discussion in Macroeconomics is situated within the context of the Indian economy. Besides using publicly available data, the contextual description is instantiated using excerpts from works of fiction by Indian authors.

Book Synopsis Contemporary Theatre of India by : Chaman Ahuja
Download or read book Contemporary Theatre of India written by Chaman Ahuja and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The present book seeks to provide a generic introduction to the contemporary theatre scenario in different parts of India. Researched and written over a period of nearly a decade, it adopts an approach that may be best termed as quasi-academic and quasi-journalistic. Primarily, it affords understanding as well as interpretation of the trends, experiments and major works; but, in the process, it takes up serious issues for closer scrutiny. Nevertheless, the overall tone and tenor continue to be rather informal throughout. the book was born of interaction with both established and uprising exponents of the theatre arts -- playwrights, directors, performers, designers, critics, etc.; but it purposefully eschews critical or technical jargon. Ultimately, what we get is a phenomenal attempt to build a comprehensive as well as a perceptive overview of the complex and ever-growing dynamics of the contemporary theatres of India as practised in various regions, languages, cultures." -- Back cover.

Book Synopsis Moogavani Pillanangrovi by : Kēśavareḍḍi
Download or read book Moogavani Pillanangrovi written by Kēśavareḍḍi and published by Oxford Novellas. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moogavani Pillanagrovi (1993) is woven around the near-suicidal death of a farmer who loses his land. While the period of the plot is around the 1950s, the story revolves around the farmer's ties with his land and his inability to visualize a life without it-an issue relevant even today. The farmer's death could have been forgotten by the village, except for several puzzling incidents that crop up. Myth and reality intertwine to create a folklore around the land and the farmer. This Telugu novella was first published in 1993, during a period when Andhra Pradesh's farmers had begun committing suicide in droves. Many surprising parallels can be drawn to the pressures in agriculture and the farmer in real life and in the novel. This novella introduced what is called (in Telugu literary criticism) as magic realism-mirroring real life and yet making wide departures into the world of lore, mythic representation, and strongly rooted cultural beliefs. Kesava Reddy writes with a strong inflection of his native Rayalaseema dialect. Breaking the tradition of writing in the standard Telugu form as it is spoken and written by people from the coastal districts of Krishna and Guntur, Kesava Reddy along with several other writers began writing in his native dialect-a bold step at that time. The detail in the novel is striking. Kesava Reddy also broke with Telugu literature (which was didactic at that time) to build on detail and cut down on dialogue. His dialogues are sparse and never interfere with the tempo built up in the story.

Book excerpt: One of Thailand’s best-known and most highly regarded novels, portraying the romance of a young Thai man and a married older woman ‘In that tranquil and apparently very ordinary picture, I see everything unfolding. Every scene, every part, from the beginning to the final act’ Nopporn, a Thai student studying in Japan, is tasked with hosting a distinguished old family friend and his new wife, the beautiful, aristocratic Kirati. Despite their difference in age and status, and the social constraints of the day, Nopporn and Kirati are inexorably drawn to each other, and love starts to bloom. A stirring portrayal of youthful romantic obsession, and later attempts to come to terms with the frailty of passionate feelings, Behind the Painting also shows the constrained lives of many women of the time. First published in 1937, it is one of Thailand’s best-known and most beloved novels. Translated by David Smyth
