This book was released on 2012-11-05 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of electrochemical techniques by chemists, particularly those who regard themselves as "inorganic" coordination chemists, has undergone a very rapid growth in the last 15-20 years. The techniques, as dassically applied to inorganic species, had their origins in analytical chemistry, and the methodology had assumed, until the mid 60s, more importance than the chemiStry. However, the growth of interest in coordination compounds (including organometallic complexes) having unusually rich of electron-transfer in bio-inorganic redox properties, and in the understanding species, has propelfed electro-chemistry into the foreground of potentially readily available techniques for application to a very wide range of problems of interest to those chemists. This growth has been fuelled additionally by the availability of relatively cheap equipment of growing sophistication and by an increase in the "inorganic" chemists' general knowledge of physical electrochemistry. In particular, with increasing availability and sophistication of eqUipment, kinetic problems are now being addressed, and the range of electrode types and configuration and solvents has been greatly expanded. Furthermore, the rapid expansion of interest in biological problems has opened new avenues in functionalisation of electrodes, in the development of sensory devices and, in a sense, a return to the analytical base of the science, using novel and multi-disciplinary techniques drawing on synthesis chemistry of and electronic micro-engeneering. The drive towards increasing use microcomputer-controlled data analysis and the development of microeledrodes has opened exciting new avenues for the exploration of chemical reactions involving electron-transfer processes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemists increasingly apply electrochemical methods to the investigation of their systems, in particular towards a better understanding of molecular properties, the exploration of chemical reactions involving electron-transfer (ET), the initiation of further reactions by ET, the kinetic measurements, and the establishment of the reaction mechanisms, as well as the synthesis (electrosynthesis) of desired products. Trends in Molecular Electrochemistry presents recent research on procedures in molecular electroactivation and electrocatalysis, bioelectrochemistry, spectroelectrochemistry, and unconventional electrochemistry. The book highlights the state-of-the-art in the application of electrochemistry by taking an interdisciplinary approach to the study of both static and dynamic molecular properties of coordination compounds as well as inorganic, bioinorganic, and organometallic complexes, supramolecular systems, and metalloenzymes. The principles and approaches are often also valid for organic systems, which are illustrated in various contexts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to understand the basic aspects of an electrochemical investigation on inorganic molecules (in its widest meaning, of any molecule which contains at least one metal centre) it must be taken into account that in these molecules the metal-ligand bonds are of the prevailingly covalent type. Since electrochemical techniques allow you to add or remove electrons in a controlled manner, it is conceivable that the addition or removal of electrons inside these molecules can lead to the formation of new bonds or to the breakage of existing bonds. The main aim of this book is to study the effects of such electron addition and removal processes on the molecular frames. The second edition of this classic book has been fully revised and updated and is a straightforward, logical introduction to electrochemical investigations for inorganic chemists. All chapters have been rewritten with new material including: - the addition of reactivity with nitric oxide to the chapter on the reactivity of metal complexes with small molecules - thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters has been added to the chapter on metal-sulfur and metal-carbonyl clusters - a new chapter on the digital simulation of electrochemical responses - a new chapter on the theoretical calculations to explain the nature of the electrochemical activity of metal complexes - new chapters on spectroelectrochemistry and electrochemiluminescence. The book covers every aspect of inorganic electrochemistry - the introduction is followed by chapters on the basic aspects of electrochemistry followed by practical and applicative aspects and ends with full appendices. It is probably the only publication with a simple approach to electrochemical aspects of the topics in inorganic chemistry. Bridging the gap between undergraduate and research-level electrochemistry books, this publication will be a welcome addition to the literature of inorganic chemists. It will also be particularly useful to final year students in chemistry and as background reading for graduates and researchers without adequate electrochemical knowledge to become active in the discipline or who want to collaborate with electrochemists.

Book excerpt: Biological Electrochemistry, Volume I is a result of a series of lectures given regarding the electrochemistry of small and large organic and inorganic molecules and how electrochemical information helps in understanding some of the biological redox reactions of these systems. This volume ultimately focuses on the electrochemistry of small and macromolecular organic compounds. This book is divided into seven chapters where each focuses on a particular organic compound. These compounds are quinones, catecholamines, phenothiazines, ascorbic acid, purines, vitamin B12 and related compounds, and proteins. Each chapter starts with a brief introduction to the compounds and then its structure and electrochemistry aspect. The last chapter gives a detailed discussion on different kinds of proteins and their electrochemistry aspects. This volume will be of help to students as well as electrochemists, biochemists, biologists, and other scientists in the field of biotechnology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct Synthesis of Metal Complexes provides in-depth coverage of the direct synthesis of coordination and organometallic compounds. The work is primarily organized by methods, but also covers highly relevant complexes, such as metal-polymer coordination compounds. This updated reference discusses recent developments in cryosynthesis, electrosynthesis, and tribosynthesis (popular as it doesn’t require organic solvents), with special attention paid to ‘greener’ methodologies and approaches. Additionally, the book describes physical methods of zero-valent metal interaction with organic matter, including sputtering, ultrasonic treatment and synthesis in ionic liquids. The book presents completely new content as a follow-up to the 1999 Elsevier Science publication Direct Synthesis of Coordination and Organometallic Compounds that was edited by Dr. Garnovskii and Dr. Kharisov. Covers current methods and techniques of metal interactions with organic media leading to metal chelates, adducts, di- and polymetallic complexes, metal-containing macrocycles, supported coordination compounds (i.e., metal complexes on carbon nanotubes), and more Describes reactivities of distinct forms of elemental metals (powders, sheets, nanoparticles (including a host of less-common metal nanostructures) with organic phase (liquid, solid and gaseous) and water Includes experimental procedures, with examples of direct synthesis, at the end of each chapter

Inorganic Bioelectrochemistry provides a thorough and didactic overview of state-of-the-art bioelectrochemistry with prospects for forthcoming development. The book is organized in eight chapters written by leading international experts and covers crucial relevant topics such as electron and proton transfer in metalloprotein systems, electrochemistry and electrocatalysis of redox enzymes, and electrochemistry of DNA-based molecules. A wide variety of readers will find this volume of great interest. These include final year undergraduate and postgraduate students, university lecturers in inorganic and physical chemistry as well as the biochemical and biological sciences, and research staff in medical and biotechnological companies, catalysis research, and other industries.
