Download or read book Molecular Beam Scattering from Solid Surfaces: A Critical Review written by Joe N Smith (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report reviews experimental studies of gas-surface scattering reported in the period from approximately 1969 through the first half of 1972. It emphasizes rare gas scattering from a variety of metal single crystals at incident energies from about 0.025 eV to nearly 20 eV, and includes a discussion of the various scattering regimes in that energy range. In addition, light gas scattering from LiF and certain highly structured metal surfaces is surveyed. The observation of single-phonon inelastic events are described. Recent studies of desorption phenomena are reviewed. A correlation of the various results is made and areas in which questions remain are indicated. Apart from parametric correlations, no attempt is made to assess the validity of the various theoretical models that have been developed to describe the scattering process. (Author).

Book Synopsis On the Behaviour of a Molecular Beam Scattered by a Solid Surface: Theoretical Study for Normal Incidence by : Silvio Nocilla
Download or read book On the Behaviour of a Molecular Beam Scattered by a Solid Surface: Theoretical Study for Normal Incidence written by Silvio Nocilla and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper deals with the problem of the scattering of a molecular beam normally incident on a solid surface. By means of a suitable interaction model which takes into account the thermal motion of the surface atoms and the surface roughness at molecular scale 'the velocity distribution function of the free-molecule surface source' formed by the re-emitted molecules is determined. Successively the corresponding spatial distribution functions of the number of molecules, of their momentum and of their energy are calculated. (Author).

Book Synopsis Molecular Scattering of Light by : I. L. Fabelinskii
Download or read book Molecular Scattering of Light written by I. L. Fabelinskii and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-07-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the laser and the subsequent expansion of research in the field of molecular scattering of light tend to ob scure the vast literature that accumulated on this subject during th'e last fifty years. The appearance of the Russian edition of Dr. Fabelinskii's book, just as this laser-induced explosion in light-scattering research took place, served to put the earlier work in its proper perspective. However, the book lacked any appreci able coverage of the laser work. Fortunately, Dr. Fabelinskii has taken advantage of the time between the appearance of the Russian text and its translation into English to expand greatly the sections devoted to areas in which laser research has made such interesting and vital additions, At the same time, revisions and insertions have been made throughout the text, so that the English translation is virtually a second edition of this useful work. The translator wishes to express his thanks here to Dr. Fa belinskii for making the revisions, corrections, and additions availahle for the English language work. He is also grateful to his graduate student, Mark B. Moffett, who prepared the index and who, during the course of its preparation, made a large number of crit ical comments and corrections that have enhanced the quality of the final product.
Book Synopsis Molecular Beam Scattering from Clean Surfaces of Alkali Halides by : Jeffrey A. Meyers
Download or read book Molecular Beam Scattering from Clean Surfaces of Alkali Halides written by Jeffrey A. Meyers and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular beam scattering of light gases from in-situ cleaved alkali halide surfaces has been studied as a means of developing molecular beam scattering as a surface characterization tool and as a means of obtaining information about the gas atom-solid surface potential interaction. For 4He scattering from LiF carried out under improved resolution the main results are as follows: There are four bound states in the surface potential well; most of the structure previously designated as 'fine structure' is due either to transitions to these four levels; the transitions involving the (01) and (0,-1) reciprocal lattice vectors are strong; the widths of the lines are consistent with the velocity distribution; and the observed energies agree fairly well with those calculated by Tsuchida. It has been shown in this study that molecular beam scattering is a valuable tool in the characterization of gas atom-surface potentials.
Download or read book Superlubricity written by Ali Erdemir and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-03-30 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superlubricity is defined as a sliding regime in which friction or resistance to sliding vanishes. It has been shown that energy can be conserved by further reducing/removing friction in moving mechanical systems and this book includes contributions from world-renowned scientists who address some of the most fundamental research issues in overcoming friction. Superlubricity reviews the latest methods and materials in this area of research that are aimed at removing friction in nano-to-micro scale machines and large scale engineering components. Insight is also given into the atomic-scale origins of friction in general and superlubricity while other chapters focus on experimental and practical aspects or impacts of superlubricity that will be very useful for broader industrial community.* Reviews the latest fundamental research in superlubricity today* Presents 'state-of-the-art' methods, materials, and experimental techniques* Latest developments in tribomaterials, coatings, and lubricants providing superlubricity
Book Synopsis Design of a Molecular Beam Surface Scattering Apparatus for Velocity and Angular Distribution Measurements by :
Download or read book Design of a Molecular Beam Surface Scattering Apparatus for Velocity and Angular Distribution Measurements written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A molecular beam surface scattering apparatus designed for the study of corrosion and catalyticsurfacereactions is described. The apparatus incorporates two molecular or atomic beams aimed at a surface characterized by low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), a rotatable, differentially pumped quadrupole mass spectrometer, and a versatile manipulator. Angular distributions and energy distributions as a funcion of angle and independent of the surface residence time can be measured. Typical data for the oxidation of deuterium to D2O on a Pt(lll) crystal surface are presented.
