Book excerpt: LE TRANSFERT THERMIQUE PAR RAYONNEMENT EST, EN DEHORS DE QUELQUES CAS PARTICULIERS, LE MODE DE TRANSFERT PREPONDERANT DANS LES CHAMBRES DE COMBUSTION DE TYPE INDUSTRIELLES TELLES QUE LES FOURS OU LES CHAUDIERES. LA SIMULATION DE LA COMBUSTION DANS DE TELS CAS, SE FAIT A L'AIDE DE CODES TRIDIMENSIONNELS UTILISANT LA DISCRETISATION DE L'ESPACE ET LE MODULE DE TRANSFERTS RADIATIFS DEVRA ETRE INTRODUIT COMME UN SOUS-PROGRAMME DE CELUI ACTUELLEMENT UTILISE A L'IFP (KIVA). UNE PREMIERE ANALYSE A PERMIS DE CHOISIR LE MODELE QUI REPRESENTAIT LE MEILLEUR COMPROMIS TEMPS DE CALCUL-PRECISION. LA METHODE DES TRANSFERTS DISCRETS A ETE ETENDUE A DES MAILLAGES QUELCONQUES ET UN MODELE DE RAYONNEMENT DES GAZ A ETE INCORPORE. UNE PREMIERE VALIDATION A PERMIS DE COMPARER LES RESULTATS AVEC CEUX ISSUS DE MODELES DIFFERENTS (HOTTEL, NFLUX...). LES RESULTATS EXPERIMENTAUX DE CHAMBRES DE COMBUSTION (FLAMME DE GAZ ET FLAMME DE FUEL) ONT PERMIS DE VALIDER LE MODELE DE RAYONNEMENT DE MANIERE PLUS PRECISE EN S'APPUYANT SUR LA TEMPERATURE AINSI QUE SUR LES DIFFERENTES ESPECES CHIMIQUES CALCULEES PAR LE CODE. CETTE VALIDATION A NECESSITE UNE ETUDE ET UNE AMELIORATION DU MODELE DE COMBUSTION QUI SANS UNE FIABILITE MINIMALE NE PEUT PERMETTRE UNE VALIDATION CORRECTE DU MODELE DE TRANSFERT RADIATIF

This book was released on 1993 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Genmix: A General Computer Program for Two-dimensional Parabolic Phenomena explains a computer program called GENMIX. The main intention of the program is to be used as a tool of instructions. The name of the program is a mixture of two considerations: its generality and its concern for mixing processes. The book aims to help the potential user to understand the physical and mathematical basis of the topic computer program. It is also the aim of the book to make the program applicable to practical problems. The book is arranged in such a way as to parallel a course of lectures and associated computer-workshop sessions wherein the student is allowed to do some elementary computations as soon as he has gained some knowledge of the method. The book contains the mathematical, physical, and computer-coding aspects of the program. Concepts such as the boundary layer, two-dimensional, and steady- flow are defined and discussed in depth. The text will be a useful tool for computer instructors and students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to differential manifolds. It gives solid preliminaries for more advanced topics: Riemannian manifolds, differential topology, Lie theory. It presupposes little background: the reader is only expected to master basic differential calculus, and a little point-set topology. The book covers the main topics of differential geometry: manifolds, tangent space, vector fields, differential forms, Lie groups, and a few more sophisticated topics such as de Rham cohomology, degree theory and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for surfaces. Its ambition is to give solid foundations. In particular, the introduction of “abstract” notions such as manifolds or differential forms is motivated via questions and examples from mathematics or theoretical physics. More than 150 exercises, some of them easy and classical, some others more sophisticated, will help the beginner as well as the more expert reader. Solutions are provided for most of them. The book should be of interest to various readers: undergraduate and graduate students for a first contact to differential manifolds, mathematicians from other fields and physicists who wish to acquire some feeling about this beautiful theory. The original French text Introduction aux variétés différentielles has been a best-seller in its category in France for many years. Jacques Lafontaine was successively assistant Professor at Paris Diderot University and Professor at the University of Montpellier, where he is presently emeritus. His main research interests are Riemannian and pseudo-Riemannian geometry, including some aspects of mathematical relativity. Besides his personal research articles, he was involved in several textbooks and research monographs.

The conference showcased new results concerning theoretical tools as well as applied research approaches. Diffusion processes affect all types of materials: nanomaterials, materials for energy, metallurgy, glasses and ceramics, but each requires its own numerical tools. Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). This volume comprises most of the contributions presented at DIMAT 2011: 4 plenary lectures delivered by famous high-level scientists plus 88 contributions in the form of keynote lectures, talks and posters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculations in Furnace Technology presents the theoretical and practical aspects of furnace technology. This book provides information pertinent to the development, application, and efficiency of furnace technology. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the exothermic reactions that occur when carbon, hydrogen, and sulfur are burned to release the energy available in the fuel. This text then evaluates the efficiencies to measure the quantity of fuel used, of flue gases leaving the plant, of air entering, and the heat lost to the surroundings. Other chapters consider that it is important to determine the amount of carbon discharged with the ashes, the quantity and composition of any tar produced, so that a carbon balance can be applied. The final chapter describes the various reactions within the furnace atmosphere and between charges and atmosphere. This book is a valuable resource for fuel technologists, heating and ventilating engineers, and plant operators.
