Ce travail repose sur l'idée que l'organisation d'un système distribué peut émerger à partir du comportement de chacune des d'entités autonomes et proactives qui le composent. L'organisation émergente satisfait l'objectif confié au système auto-organisé. Cette thèse s'est particulièrement occupé de domaines applicatifs où les systèmes auto-organisés sont formés par des entités matérielles intelligents, en général mobiles, situées dans un environnement physique relativement incertain. Ses études de cas appartiennent à la problématique de la conduite en convoi de flottes de véhicules autonomes.En particulier, B. Dafflon s'est intéressé à la prise de décision pour ce genre de systèmes. Cette question est particulièrement importante lorsque l'environnement est incertain, soit par ce que les entités autonomes en ont une connaissance imparfaite, soit par ce que des phénomènes aléatoires peuvent se produire. Dans ce cas chaque entité doit décider, de façon décentralisée quelle est la meilleure action locale à exécuter pour que l'organisation globale soit préservée. Si bien l'échange d'informations entre entités n'est pas exclu d'emblée pour ce type de systèmes, les travaux de cette Thèse ont été conduits en adoptant la contrainte de non-communication, dans le but d'explorer la portée des approches purement autonomes et locales de la prise de décision par les agents.Parmi les contributions substantielles apportées par cette thèse nous pouvons mentionner les suivants. Premièrement, la proposition d'une architecture qui sépare la fonction décision de la fonction contrôle, ce qui permet de mieux intégrer des fonctionnalités qui prennent en compte l'incertain. Un exemple dans le domaine applicatif (la conduite en convoi) serait l'évitement d'obstacles. Deuxièmement, B. Dafflon propose l'introduction d'une hiérarchie de systèmes multi-agents où la prise de décision est également envisagée comme un processus auto-organisé dans un monde virtuel d'agents. Ce monde virtuel est défini par un processus d'abstraction des informations données par les percepts des agents matériels. Finalement, cette Thèse propose des modèles d'interaction pour ces agents virtuels qui reposent sur des processus physiques (lois d'attraction-répulsion, dynamique des gazes, ...). L'intérêt en est que la décision peut être élaborée de façon calculatoire, en évaluant des indicateurs globaux inspirés des processus physiques modélisés.Les travaux présentés dans cette thèse ont été effectués et ont été financés par le projet ANR-VTT SafePlatoon.

Le langage de coordination Lacios et la sémantique opérationnelle associée permet d'écrire des programmes adhérant au modèle et spécifie d'une manière non ambiguë le comportement prévu du système. Une implémentation sous la forme d'un langage de script au dessus de Java est développée, permettant une réalisation du système en se focalisant sur la coordination à un haut niveau d'abstraction et en garantissant son adhésion au modèle Acios. L'application support est un problème de grande complexité et se prêtant bien à une modélisation distribuée. Il s'agit du problème dynamique de tournées de véhicules et plus spécifiquement sa variante Transport À la Demande. Une réalisation en Lacios est proposée, la non violation des contraintes du problème est garantie grâce à l'observation des propriétés des objets de l'environnement. Une nouvelle mesure de choix entre véhicules concurrent pour l'insertion d'un client est proposée, reposant sur la quantification de leurs champs de perception.

Le SMAL trouve son origine en modélisation des systèmes complexes : il est en effet issu des réseaux d'itérations logistiques couplées dont nous avons adapté le modèle de calcul au schéma ``influence-réaction'' des systèmes multi-agents. Ce modèle est fondé sur des principes communs à d'autres disciplines, comme la synchronisation et le contrôle paramétrique, que nous plaçons au coeur des mécanismes d'auto-organisation et d'adaptation du système. L'environnement à base de champs est l'autre aspect fondamental du SMAL, en permettant la réalisation des interactions indirectes des agents et en jouant le rôle d'une structure de données pour le système. Les travaux décrits dans cette thèse donnent lieu à des applications principalement en simulation et en optimisation combinatoire.L'intérêt et l'originalité du SMAL pour l'intelligence en essaim résident dans l'aspect générique de son schéma théorique qui permet de traiter avec un même modèle des phénomènes considérés a priori comme distincts dans la littérature : phénomènes de ``flocking'' et phénomènes stigmergiques ``fourmis'' à base de phéromones. Ce modèle répond ainsi à un besoin d'explication des mécanismes mis en jeu autant qu'au besoin d'en synthétiser les algorithmes générateurs.

Book excerpt: La représentation de systèmes complexes en vue de leur contrôle ou de leur simulation nécessite de définir des agents hybrides dotés de capacités substantielles de raisonnement et de représentation du monde dans lequel ils évoluent et de capacités réactives, pour respecter des contraintes temporelles temps réel. Nous proposons un modèle d'agents opérationnel qui possède ces caractéristiques. Ces agents combinent des propriétés cognitives et réactives logées dans des modules asynchrones différents, ce qui repose le problème de la coordination à l'intérieur même de l'agent sans pour autant faire disparaître celui de la coordination entre agents. Pour apporter une solution à ce problème, nous proposons un modèle d'agents dont les capacités cognitives sont fondées sur l'emploi de bases de règles et de métarègles. Leurs facultés réactives sont assurées par des modules asynchrones de communication et de perception. Ce modèle repose sur l'utilisation d'un ATN pour adapter le comportement des modules cognitifs à celui des modules réactifs et pour gérer les interactions entre ces différents modules. Chaque agent gère des graphes de dépendances et d'interférences pour assurer une cohérence et éviter les conflits avec les autres agents. Ce modèle repose sur le concept d'acteurs et nous nous plaçons délibérement dans le cadre de la programmation orientée-objet (smalltalk-80). Cet environnement nous fournit de puissants outils de base sous la forme de divers frameworks. Nos agents sont implémentés à l'aide de la dernière version d'actalk, une plate-forme générique pour implémenter différents modèles d'acteurs. Les bases de règles des modules de raisonnement utilisent neopus, un moteur d'inférence d'ordre 1. La principale caractéristique de neopus est le contrôle déclaratif du raisonnement. Nous utilisons le framework de simulation à événements discrets pour représenter et gérer l'évolution temporelle de nos systèmes multi-agents. Nous utilisons également rpctalk qui implémente la technique RPC, pour distribuer nos systèmes multi-agents sur plusieurs machines. Nous avons étendu ces différentes composantes pour les adapter au modèle d'agents proposé et réaliser la plateforme multi-agents DIMA. Pour valider DIMA, nous avons réalisé trois applications dont deux sont relativement importantes 1) un système de monitorage de la ventilation artificielle des patients en soins intensifs et 2) une modélisation de l'évolution économique et du changement technologique.

Pour étudier ces phénomènes, nous avons mis en lumière le besoin de réutiliser, de coupler et de faire interagir des outils de modélisation et de simulation provenant de domaines scientifiques différents (réseaux informatiques, simulations sociales) afin d'intégrer simultanément plusieurs niveaux d'abstraction dans l'étude menée. Cette problématique de réutilisation et de couplage de modèles (la multi-modélisation) et de simulation (interopérabilité de simulateurs) n'est pas propre aux seuls réseaux ambiants et celle-ci s'inscrit dans le domaine plus vaste de l'étude des systèmes complexes.Cette thèse se propose d'aborder les questions de réutilisation et de couplage des outils de modélisation et de simulation sous l'angle des systèmes multi-agents et d'inscrire les solutions à la fois d'ingénierie logicielle, de simulation distribuée, de multi-modélisation dans un cadre multi-agent générique et homogène : le méta-modèle AA4MM. L'idée fondatrice est de créer une société de modèles, de simulateurs et de logiciels de simulation (que l'on nommera blocs MSL) afin d'intégrer plusieurs niveaux d'abstraction dans une même modélisation et simulation. AA4MM propose une approche multi-agent homogène qui permet de facilement réutiliser des blocs MSL, de les rendre interopérable et de les coupler de manière modulaire. AA4MM permet également au modélisateur de clairement spécifier les changements d'échelles. AA4MM propose une méthode de simulation totalement décentralisée. Au niveau des aspects théoriques du méta-modèle AA4MM, nous avons proposé une preuve formelle de l'algorithme de simulation décentralisée. Nous avons également appliqué AA4MM à un cas d'étude pédagogique en couplant ensemble plusieurs instances de NetLogo (un outil de simulation répandu). Nous avons également appliqué AA4MM aux réseaux ambiants et à notre question initiale sur les influences mutuelles entre performances du réseau et comportements des usagers. Dans ce contexte, nous avons pu réutiliser des simulateurs existants qui n'étaient pas prévus pour interagir afin d'aborder les phénomènes d'influences mutuelles entre performances des réseaux et comportements de leurs usagers.

The social sciences have been accumulating knowledge since the early fifties as to how we are regulated by others. S. Milgram, S. Ashe, P. Zimbardo and J. Calhoun, detail the vulnerability to being duped and deceived and the difficulty of cooperating when values differ. Murray Bowen, M.D., the first researcher to observe several live-in families, for up to three years, at the National Institute of Mental Health. Describing how family members overly influence one another and distribute stress unevenly, Bowen described both how symptoms and family leaders emerge in highly stressed families. Our brain is not organized to automatically perceive that each family has an emotional system, fine-tuned by evolution and "valuing" its survival as a whole, as much as the survival of any individual. It is easier to see this emotional system function in ants or mice but not in humans. The emotional system is organized to snooker us humans: encouraging us to take sides, run away from others, to pressure others, to get sick, to blame others, and to have great difficulty in seeing our part in problems. It is hard to see that we become anxious, stressed out and even that we are difficult to deal with. But "thinking systems" can open the doors of perception, allowing us to experience the world in a different way. This book offers both coaching ideas and stories from leaders as to strategies to break out from social control by de-triangling, using paradoxes, reversals and other types of interruptions of highly linked emotional processes. Time is needed to think clearly about the automatic nature of the two against one triangle. Time and experience is required as we learn strategies to put two people together and get self outside the control of the system. In addition, it takes time to clarify and define one's principles, to know what "I" will or will not do and to be able to take a stand with others with whom we are very involved. The good news is that systems' thinking is possible for anyone. It is always possible for an individual to understand feelings and to integrate them with their more rational brains. In so doing, an individual increases his or her ability to communicate despite misunderstandings or even rejection from important others. The effort involved in creating your Mindful Compass enables us to perceive the relationship system without experiencing it's threats. The four points on the Mindful Compass are: 1) Action for Self, 2) Resistance to Forward Progress, 3) Knowledge of Social Systems and the 4) The Ability to Stand Alone. Each gives us a view of the process one enters when making an effort to define a self and build an emotional backbone. It is not easy to find our way through the social jungle. The ability to know emotional systems well enough to take a position for self and to become more differentiated is part of the natural way humans cope with pressure. Now people can use available knowledge to build an emotional backbone, by thoughtfully altering their part in the relationship system. No one knows how far one can go by making an effort to be more of a self-defined individual in relationships to others. Through increasing emotional maturity, we can find greater individual freedom at the same time that we increase our ability to cooperate and to be close to others.
