Book Synopsis Modelling and Simulation of Integrated Systems in Engineering by : D J Murray-Smith
Download or read book Modelling and Simulation of Integrated Systems in Engineering written by D J Murray-Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-05-30 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book places particular emphasis on issues of model quality and ideas of model testing and validation. Mathematical and computer-based models provide a foundation for explaining complex behaviour, decision-making, engineering design and for real-time simulators for research and training. Many engineering design techniques depend on suitable models, assessment of the adequacy of a given model for an intended application is therefore critically important. Generic model structures and dependable libraries of sub-models that can be applied repeatedly are increasingly important. Applications are drawn from the fields of mechanical, aeronautical and control engineering, and involve non-linear lumped-parameter models described by ordinary differential equations. Focuses on issues of model quality and the suitability of a given model for a specific application Multidisciplinary problems within engineering feature strongly in the applications The development and testing of nonlinear dynamic models is given very strong emphasis

Book Synopsis Benchmark Models of Control System Design for Remotely Operated Vehicles by : Cheng Siong Chin
Download or read book Benchmark Models of Control System Design for Remotely Operated Vehicles written by Cheng Siong Chin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-07 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to meet the needs of those who seek to develop control systems for ROVs when there is no model available during the initial design stage. The modeling, simulation and application of marine vehicles like underwater robotic vehicles (URVs) are multidisciplinary, and combine mathematical aspects from various engineering disciplines. URVs such as remotely operated vehicle (ROVs) are used for a wide range of applications such as exploring the extreme depths of our ocean, where a hard-wired link is still required. Most ROVs operate in extreme environments with uncertainties in the model prior to control system design. However, the method involved extensive testing before the system model could be used for any control actions. It has been found that the range of error can be extensive and uncertain in actual, continuously varying conditions. Hence, it is important to address the problem of reliance on model testing using different modeling approaches. In this book, approaches such as WAMIT, ANSYS-CFX, STAR CCM+, MATLAB and Simulink are used to model parameters for ROVs. A few benchmark models are provided, allowing researchers and students to explore and test different control schemes. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable reference guide for postgraduate and undergraduate students engaged in modeling and simulation for ROV control.
Book Synopsis Verification and Validation for Modeling and Simulation by : Jeffrey Strickland
Download or read book Verification and Validation for Modeling and Simulation written by Jeffrey Strickland and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-12-08 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work began when I was appointed as a Technical Director for Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Verification and Validation (V&V) for a major defense system in 2008. It is intended to provide the nuts and bolts of performing M&S V&V in one volume. It is not intended to provide a holistic approach to M&S V&V, as that can be derived from other sources. As such, this book assumes a basic understanding of V&V, including its place in the lifecycle, its purpose and its scope for ensuring the quality of models and simulations. During the process of developing this text, the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) completed SISO-GUIDE-001.2-2013, Guide for Generic Methodology for Verification and Validation (GM-VV) to Support Acceptance of Models, Simulations, and Data, 2 Volumes, June 2013. The guide does serve the purpose not covered by this book. This text provides procedural details for performing V&V. The procedures are static, dynamic and informal.

Download or read book Verification and Validation in Systems Engineering written by Mourad Debbabi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-16 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the dawn of the 21st century and the information age, communication and c- puting power are becoming ever increasingly available, virtually pervading almost every aspect of modern socio-economical interactions. Consequently, the potential for realizing a signi?cantly greater number of technology-mediated activities has emerged. Indeed, many of our modern activity ?elds are heavily dependant upon various underlying systems and software-intensive platforms. Such technologies are commonly used in everyday activities such as commuting, traf?c control and m- agement, mobile computing, navigation, mobile communication. Thus, the correct function of the forenamed computing systems becomes a major concern. This is all the more important since, in spite of the numerous updates, patches and ?rmware revisions being constantly issued, newly discovered logical bugs in a wide range of modern software platforms (e. g. , operating systems) and software-intensive systems (e. g. , embedded systems) are just as frequently being reported. In addition, many of today’s products and services are presently being deployed in a highly competitive environment wherein a product or service is succeeding in most of the cases thanks to its quality to price ratio for a given set of features. Accordingly, a number of critical aspects have to be considered, such as the ab- ity to pack as many features as needed in a given product or service while c- currently maintaining high quality, reasonable price, and short time -to- market.

Book Synopsis Simulation and Modeling of Systems of Systems by : Pascal Cantot
Download or read book Simulation and Modeling of Systems of Systems written by Pascal Cantot and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems engineering is the design of a complex interconnection of many elements (a system) to maximize a specific measure of system performance. It consists of two parts: modeling, in which each element of the system and its performance criteria are described; and optimization in which adjustable elements are tailored to allow peak performance. Systems engineering is applied to vast numbers of problems in industry and the military. An example of systems engineering at work is the control of the timing of thousands of city traffic lights to maximize traffic flow. The complex and intricate field of electronics and computers is perfectly suited for systems engineering analysis and in turn, advances in communications and computer technology have made more advanced systems engineering problems solvable. Thus, the two areas fed off of one another. This book is a basic introduction to the use of models and methods in the engineering design of systems. It is aimed at students as well as practicing engineers. The concept of the "systems of systems" is discussed extensively, after a critical comparison of the different definitions and a range of various practical illustrations. It also provides key answers as to what a system of systems is and how its complexity can be mastered.
Book Synopsis Applied Control Systems Design by : Magdi S. Mahmoud
Download or read book Applied Control Systems Design written by Magdi S. Mahmoud and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-13 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Control System Design examines several methods for building up systems models based on real experimental data from typical industrial processes and incorporating system identification techniques. The text takes a comparative approach to the models derived in this way judging their suitability for use in different systems and under different operational circumstances. A broad spectrum of control methods including various forms of filtering, feedback and feedforward control is applied to the models and the guidelines derived from the closed-loop responses are then composed into a concrete self-tested recipe to serve as a check-list for industrial engineers or control designers. System identification and control design are given equal weight in model derivation and testing to reflect their equality of importance in the proper design and optimization of high-performance control systems. Readers’ assimilation of the material discussed is assisted by the provision of problems and examples. Most of these exercises use MATLAB® to make computation and visualization more straightforward. Applied Control System Design will be of interest to academic researchers for its comparison of different systems models and their response to different control methods and will assist graduate students in learning the practical necessities of advanced control system design. The consistent reference to real systems coupled with self-learning tools will assist control practitioners who wish to keep up to date with the latest control design ideas.
