Book Synopsis Responsible Investment Banking by : Karen Wendt
Download or read book Responsible Investment Banking written by Karen Wendt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides evidence on the relevance of environmental and social factors in decision making. It discusses the Gold Standard Frameworks for integrating extra-financial risks into the philosophy, culture, strategies, products and value chain management procedures of investment and banking and highlights the current emergence of global administrative law. New emerging topics like positive impact investing and finance, climate friendly markets, human rights, the enhanced role of fiduciary duties and shared values are approached with a lot of examples for practical application. Steps towards a new banking culture, a new climate for double loop learning and sustainable financial innovation are outlined and the additional benefits of robust stakeholder engagement explained. The anthology paves the way from robust impact and risk management to positive impact creation and a new investment culture. As well, challenges for the implementation and ways to overcome them are broadly discussed. The book is rooted in the fact that institutions and investors which fail to professionally integrate the management of extra-financial risk into their whole lending and investment chain and fail to move to positive impact creation may well loose positions and mandates and finally the trust of their clients, partners and stakeholders. The contributing authors of this anthology are internationally renowned experts in the field of ESG and impact investing. The compendium brings together practitioners and academics to allow a confluence of thoughts, concepts and viewpoints. This huge variety of perspectives and approaches makes this volume a comprehensive compendium on responsible investment and banking.

Book Synopsis Mobilizing Domestic Capital Markets for Infrastructure Financing by :
Download or read book Mobilizing Domestic Capital Markets for Infrastructure Financing written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1997 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Bank Technical Paper No. 369. Hydropower and irrigation projects involving reservoirs can displace thousands of people from their traditional lands and deprive them of their livelihoods. If poorly planned, they can also lead to environmental degradation. Solutions to these problems must be found--solutions that are technically feasible, sustainable, environmentally appropriate, and acceptable to the people who are resettled. This paper explains how the planned, integrated development of fishery ecosystems in reservoirs not only can mitigate the negative social consequences of dam construction, but also can enhance the economic benefits from hydropower and irrigation projects in many developing countries. The paper draws on the success of fish farming efforts in the Saguling and Cirata reservoirs in Java, which attests to the potential for creating employment in reservoirs that are in place and under construction around the world.
Book Synopsis Cultivating a Sustainable Mindset in Finance by : Danyelle Guyatt
Download or read book Cultivating a Sustainable Mindset in Finance written by Danyelle Guyatt and published by Ethics International Press. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultivating a Sustainable Mindset in Finance explores the behavioural challenges and opportunities to cultivate a sustainable mindset amongst financial professionals that could accelerate capital allocation to combat climate change. It draws on real life examples of institutional investors. While many investors recognize the growing need to incorporate climate change into investment decisions, it is not a straightforward task, and there are a multitude of challenges that investors face that slow down the speed and scale of action required to adapt investment processes. Some of these barriers have been widely debated and often cited, such as lack of consistent signals from government policy-makers, the need to upscale new technology advances, a lack of suitable investable opportunities or lack of data, models, or suitable metrics. However, there are additional challenges that relate specifically to investor behaviour itself, that are often overlooked. Through real-life case studies and survey evidence, this book explores the psychological underpinnings of investment decisions, including the dominant mindset of financial professionals, the prevalence of cognitive biases, cultural drivers, and personal relationships (both at the individual level and inside and outside organizations), and sets out a pathway to cultivate a sustainable mindset to accelerate capital allocation with the urgency that is needed to combat climate change. It is of interest to researchers and students in finance and investment; to investment firms; and to any organization looking to make sense of sustainability financing.

Book Synopsis The Theory of Capitalism in the German Economic Tradition by : Peter Koslowski
Download or read book The Theory of Capitalism in the German Economic Tradition written by Peter Koslowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of capitalism and of the economic order is the central topic of the German economic tradition in the 20th century. Capitalism has not only been the topic for Marxist economics and for the Frankfurt School but also for the Historical School and for the postmarxist theory of capitalism in Ordo- and Neo-Liberalism as well as in Solidarism. The question of the foundations of the economic order of the market economy and of capitalism as well as the problem whether a third path between capitalism and social ism is possible occupied this tradition from the Historical School to Ordo Liberalism and the theory of the social market economy. The theory of capitalism and of the social market economy as well as the critique and reform developed in this theoretical tradition is important for the theory of economic systems as well as for today's problems of the eco nomic order. Its relevance for the present world economy is visible in the discussions whether there exist different models of capitalism and whether they can be described as the Anglo-American and as the Rhenish model of capitalism influenced by the thought of the German economic tradition. Michel Albert, the author of this classification, gave the key-word in his book Capitalism against Capitalism. The papers of this book can help to clarify this debate by giving a first hand introduction to some of the main economic thinkers of capitalism.
