Book Synopsis Artificial Intelligence for Human Computer Interaction: A Modern Approach by : Yang Li
Download or read book Artificial Intelligence for Human Computer Interaction: A Modern Approach written by Yang Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-04 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book explores the many interesting questions that lie at the intersection between AI and HCI. It covers a comprehensive set of perspectives, methods and projects that present the challenges and opportunities that modern AI methods bring to HCI researchers and practitioners. The chapters take a clear departure from traditional HCI methods and leverage data-driven and deep learning methods to tackle HCI problems that were previously challenging or impossible to address. It starts with addressing classic HCI topics, including human behaviour modeling and input, and then dedicates a section to data and tools, two technical pillars of modern AI methods. These chapters exemplify how state-of-the-art deep learning methods infuse new directions and allow researchers to tackle long standing and newly emerging HCI problems alike. Artificial Intelligence for Human Computer Interaction: A Modern Approach concludes with a section on Specific Domains which covers a set of emerging HCI areas where modern AI methods start to show real impact, such as personalized medical, design, and UI automation.
Book Synopsis Grasp Interaction with Tablets by : Katrin Wolf
Download or read book Grasp Interaction with Tablets written by Katrin Wolf and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-27 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents guidelines for a future device type: a tablet that allows ergonomic front- and back-of-device interaction. These guidelines help designers and developers of user interfaces to build ergonomic applications for tablet devices, in particular for devices that enable back-of-device interaction. In addition, manufacturers of tablet devices obtain arguments that back-of-device interaction is a promising extension of the interaction design space and results in increased input capabilities, enriched design possibilities, and proven usability. The guidelines are derived from empirical studies and developed to fit the users’ skills to the way the novel device type is held. Three particular research areas that are relevant to develop design guidelines for tablet interaction are investigated: ergonomic gestures, interaction areas, and pointing techniques.
Book Synopsis Mobile Information Retrieval by : Fabio Crestani
Download or read book Mobile Information Retrieval written by Fabio Crestani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-19 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a helpful starting point in the scattered, rich, and complex body of literature on Mobile Information Retrieval (Mobile IR), reviewing more than 200 papers in nine chapters. Highlighting the most interesting and influential contributions that have appeared in recent years, it particularly focuses on both user interaction and techniques for the perception and use of context, which, taken together, shape much of today’s research on Mobile IR. The book starts by addressing the differences between IR and Mobile IR, while also reviewing the foundations of Mobile IR research. It then examines the different kinds of documents, users, and information needs that can be found in Mobile IR, and which set it apart from standard IR. Next, it discusses the two important issues of user interfaces and context-awareness. In closing, it covers issues related to the evaluation of Mobile IR applications. Overall, the book offers a valuable tool, helping new and veteran researchers alike to navigate this exciting and highly dynamic area of research.

Download or read book After Access written by Jonathan Donner and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An expert considers the effects of a more mobile Internet on socioeconomic development and digital inclusion, examining both potentialities and constraints. Almost anyone with a $40 mobile phone and a nearby cell tower can get online with an ease unimaginable just twenty years ago. An optimistic narrative has proclaimed the mobile phone as the device that will finally close the digital divide. Yet access and effective use are not the same thing, and the digital world does not run on mobile handsets alone. In After Access, Jonathan Donner examines the implications of the shift to a more mobile, more available Internet for the global South, particularly as it relates to efforts to promote socioeconomic development and broad-based inclusion in the global information society. Drawing on his own research in South Africa and India, as well as the burgeoning literature from the ICT4D (Internet and Communication Technologies for Development) and mobile communication communities, Donner introduces the “After Access Lens,” a conceptual framework for understanding effective use of the Internet by those whose “digital repertoires” contain exclusively mobile devices. Donner argues that both the potentialities and constraints of the shift to a more mobile Internet are important considerations for scholars and practitioners interested in Internet use in the global South.
