Book Synopsis Reciprocal Constructions by : Vladimir Petrovich Nedi?a?lkov
Download or read book Reciprocal Constructions written by Vladimir Petrovich Nedi?a?lkov and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph constitutes the first comprehensive investigation of reciprocal constructions and related phenomena in the world's languages. Reciprocal constructions (of the type The two boys hit each other, The poets admire each other's poems) have often been the subject of language-particular studies, but it is only in this work that a truly global comparative picture emerges. Nine stage-setting chapters dealing with general and theoretical matters are followed by 40 chapters containing in-depth descriptions of reciprocals in individual languages by renowned specialists. The introductory papers provide a conceptual and terminological framework that allows the authors of the individual chapters to characterize their languages in comparable terms, making it easy for the reader to see points of commonality between languages and constructions that have never been compared before. This set of volumes is an indispensable starting point and will be a lasting reference work for any future studies of reciprocals.

Download or read book Topik written by Rudolf Boehm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis When Life Lives Itself by : LIT Verlag
Download or read book When Life Lives Itself written by LIT Verlag and published by LIT Verlag. This book was released on 2023-10-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching is much more than transmitting knowledge. School life, alongside the togetherness in families, holds a key position in society. It is the school, where our future adults grow into the culture in which they actually live. What a task for those in charge! What a challenge! And most of all: what a chance! The book addresses those who shape coexistence in schools and those in administrations and governments who set the formal course for it, and it addresses creative minds. School case studies and a compact history of the origins of human togetherness stimulate reflection.
Book Synopsis Right Node Raising and Gapping by : Katharina Hartmann
Download or read book Right Node Raising and Gapping written by Katharina Hartmann and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2001-02-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates two elliptical coordinations in German, Right Node Raising and Gapping. Ellipsis in both constructions is claimed to be the result of a phonological process which is conditioned by prosodic and focus semantic constraints. It is convincingly argued that Right Node Raising cannot involve raising to the right periphery: The alleged movement freely violates any of the well-known restrictions on syntactic movement and it does not alter the scope relations within the coordination. Gapping in contrast is more sensitive to syntactic conditions in that its remnants must be major syntactic constituents. The author carefully examines the close connection between focus and ellipsis in the two constructions. A considered discussion of focus structure demonstrates that the conjuncts are informationally dependent on each other. This co-dependence is also reflected in their particular intonational contour which is argued to be responsible for ellipsis in coordination.

Book Synopsis Language and Linguisticality in Gadamer's Hermeneutics by : Hans-Georg Gadamer
Download or read book Language and Linguisticality in Gadamer's Hermeneutics written by Hans-Georg Gadamer and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2000 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, internationally recognized scholars in philosophical hermeneutics discuss various aspects of language and linguisticality. The translations of Hans-Georg Gadamer's two recent essays provoke a preliminary discussion on the philosopher's polemic claim in Truth and Method--"Being that can be understood is language." Topics addressed by the contributors include the relationship of rituals to tradition and the immemorial; the unity of the word; conversation; translation and conceptuality; and the interrelationship between the art of writing and linguisticality. This work is of critical importance to anyone interested in Gadamer's claims regarding the boundaries of language, the transition from the prelinguistic to linguistic realms, and the role of rituals in this transition.
Book Synopsis The Limit of Responsibility by : Esther D. Reed
Download or read book The Limit of Responsibility written by Esther D. Reed and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-08-23 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume frames the question of responsibility as a problem of agency in relation to the systems and structures of globalization. According to Ricoeur responsibility is a “shattered concept” when considered too narrowly as a problem of act, agency and individual freedom. To examine this Esther Reed develops a short genealogy of modern liberal and post-liberal concepts of responsibility in order to understand better the relationship dominant modern framings of the meanings of responsibility. Reed engages with writings by major modern (Schleiermacher, Hegel, Marx, Weber) and post-liberal (Buber, Levinas, Derrida, Badiou, Butler, Young, Critchley) theorists to illustrate the shift from an ethnic responsibility built on notions of accountability and attributions to an ethic responsibility that starts variously from the 'other'. Reed sees Dietrich Bonhoeffer as the most promising partner of this theological dialogue, as his learning of responsibility from the risen Christ present now in the (global) church is a welcome provocation to new thinking about the meaning of responsibility learned from land, distant neighbour, (global) church and the bible. Bonhoeffer's reflections on the centre, boundaries and limits of responsibility remain helpful to Christian people struggling with an increasingly exhausted concept of accountability.
