Dazu wird zunächst die Relevanz des Themas erörtert. Anschließend werden die Termini Mitarbeiterbindung und Mitarbeiterzufriedenheit genauer betrachtet. Eine Umfrage, die den Zusammenhang der beiden Begriffe beleuchtet, steht im Fokus des dritten Kapitels. Auf Basis der Ergebnisse wurde ein Workshop zum Thema 'innerbetriebliche Kommunikation' entwickelt, welcher abschließend präsentiert wird. Der Fachkräftemangel – ein Begriff, der seit geraumer Zeit in aller Munde ist und für knapp 60 Prozent der Unternehmen deutschlandweit das aktuell größte Betriebsrisiko darstellt. Es stellt sich berechtigterweise die Frage, wie Arbeitgeber die Loyalität ihrer Angestellten steigern und somit die Fluktuation verringern können. Hierbei wird sehr oft von Mitarbeiterbindung gesprochen. Es ergibt sich die Fragestellung, welche Faktoren auf die Bindung von Arbeitnehmern Einfluss nehmen. In dieser Arbeit geht es diesbezüglich um die Mitarbeiterzufriedenheit. Neben der wachsenden Herausforderung, qualifizierte Mitarbeiter zu bekommen, da deren Anzahl stetig sinkt, sieht sich das Gastgewerbe zusätzlich mit einer hohen Fluktuationsrate konfrontiert. So belegte es 2017 mit 66,4 % Platz 3 im Branchenranking. Es scheint also nicht nur notwendig zu sein, neue Mitarbeiter zu finden und einzustellen, sondern vielmehr auch, dafür zu sorgen, dass eingestellte Mitarbeiter im Unternehmen bleiben. Nach Walzer sorgt eine Firmenpolitik, welche sich mehr darauf konzentriert, Stellen neu zu besetzten als darauf, die vorhandenen Mitarbeiter zu fördern und zu halten, für vermeidbare hohe Kosten. Er spricht von sechs Monats- bis zu drei Jahresgehältern. Daraus ergibt sich die Wichtigkeit der Thematik auch aus wirtschaftlicher Sicht.
