Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is commonly agreed that the churches of Europe are in crisis--but why? How can we explain their dramatic decline over the past four decades? In particular, why do contemporary people struggle to believe? And how might the churches address this crisis of credibility? Are there already signs of hope? And what can tenacious forms of religion teach the churches as they go about their task of mission?Mission Implausible tackles these questions using the tools of sociological analysis. It argues that much of the blame for church decline is misplaced and that a broader explanation is required which sets the current crisis within a historical and sociological perspective. Written for church leaders, theologians, students of theology and sociology, and all those concerned with Christian mission, Mission Implausible explores a range of strategies aimed at rebuilding a social climate favorable to Christian belief.

Book excerpt: The recent Church Growth Research (see www.churchgrowthresearch.org.uk) identifies that the successful transmission of faith to children and young people is a key factor in stemming decline and promoting growth. This book explores the cultural and theological reasons as to why this is the case and makes research-based recommendations for the faith formation of children and young people. The central argument is that church communities need to engage in deliberate strategies that help foster ‘intentional Christian Communities’ within which children and young people can form and sustain Christian identity.

Book Synopsis The HR (R)Evolution by : Alan Watkins
Download or read book The HR (R)Evolution written by Alan Watkins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-12-10 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many observers have suggested that capitalism is fast destroying our planet, concentrating power in a few big companies. Excessive short-termism, leveraged debt, digitisation, and disruption are the new normal. We stand at a critical juncture where the two paths ahead could lead to very different futures. One route could take us back to the harshest days of the early Industrial Revolution and the Great Depression. The other could lead to a world of abundance, equality, inclusivity, and prosperity for all. Which future awaits us will largely be determined by business, and HR (Human Resources) in particular. Books on HR tend to focus on HR practices and potential interventions, but they rarely look at the profession, how it evolved, and how and why those people practices were created. The HR (R)Evolution: Change the Workplace, Change the World describes the "Seven Great Waves" of change and explains how each wave impacted business. It explains how some companies are stuck in the past and how HR can break the deadlock if it understands what the future holds. This book is meant for senior business leaders or anyone currently working in HR who are grappling with the paradoxes of business today. It’s for leaders who recognise that people issues are the central challenge of our time. Whether we embrace the waves yet to come will determine whether we survive or regress, whether we flourish or flounder. The future is in our hands.

It is two hundred years since the expanding Klingon Empire discovered an icy planet rich in a valuable mineral, topaline. They named the planet 'taD' - Klingon for 'frozen' - and called its people 'jeghpu'wl' - conquered. It is four years since the Klingon Empire invaded Cardassia, breaching the Khitomer Accords and causing a diplomatic rift with the Federation. On taD, depleted Klingon forces were overthown in a coup d'etat, and the victorious rebels took advantage of the disruption to appeal for recognition to the Federation. Now the Klingons have returned to taD and re-established their control. But the stubborn rebels insist on Federation recognition. A solution to the impasse must be found: a task that falls to the Federation's new ambassador to the Klingon Empire. Worf regards himself as a fighter, not a diplomat. But the Federation disagrees. Now, for the sake of the Empire, Worf must somehow forge a peace between the hardened rebels and the battle-hungry Klingon forces. And as everyone knows, Klingons do not negotiate...

Book Synopsis The Fabrication of Aboriginal History: Van Diemen's Land, 1803-1847 by : Keith Windschuttle
Download or read book The Fabrication of Aboriginal History: Van Diemen's Land, 1803-1847 written by Keith Windschuttle and published by Spotlight Poets. This book was released on 2003 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume in a series that re-appraises the now widely accepted story about conflict between colonists and Aborigines in Australian history. Beginning in Tasmania, and eventually covering the whole of the Australian mainland, the volumes find that the academic historians of the last thirty years have greatly exaggerated the degree of violence that occurred. In a close re-examination of the primary sources used by historians, Keith Windschuttle concludes that much of their case is poorly founded, other parts are seriously mistaken, and some of it is outright fabrication. The author finds the British colonization of the Australia was the least violent of all Europes encounters with the New World. It did not meet any organized resistance. Conflict was sporadic rather than systematic. The notion of frontier warfare is fictional. To describe the process as genocide is to use hyperbole that is unsupported by the historical evidence.
