Book excerpt: After hitting his then-record 60th home run of the 1927 season, Babe Ruth said, "Sixty, count 'em, sixty. Let's see some other son-of-a-bitch match that." Jimmie Foxx almost did, five years later, with an agonizingly close 58 four baggers. Here are the stories of Foxx's and 11 other near-record breaking performances: Bill Terry's 254 hits in 1930, three short of George Sisler's record 257; Elroy Face's 17 consecutive pitching victories, two short of Rube Marquard's record; and Willie Mays's 17 home runs in August of 1965, just one off Rudy York's mark for a single month, are three more of the performances detailed. Boxscores and statistical tables are provided.

At a party for the returning veterans Lucky finally accepts the fact her husband was not returning home at a party and suffers a breakdown. Tim, who is home on leave, takes her home as she loses contact with reality. Believing Tim to be her husband, she seduced him This was witnessed by Cathy and she told Tim to get the hell out of her life. Cathy, in an effort to get even with Tim, married a jerk. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We grow up thinking there are five senses, but we forget about the ten neglected senses of the body that both enable and limit our experience. Embodied explores the psychology of physical sensation in ten chapters: balance, movement, pressure (acting in gravity), breathing, fatigue, pain, itch, temperature, appetite, and expulsion (the senses of physical matter leaving the body). For each sense, two people are interviewed who live with extreme experiences of the sense being investigated; their stories bring to life how far physical sensations matter to us and how much they define what is possible in our life. How physical sensation shapes behavior and how behavior is shaped by sensation are examined. A final chapter presents a theory of what is common across the ten senses: of how we deal with being urged to act, and what happens when extreme sensation is inescapable.

Book excerpt: All civilizations have a story or myth of an Armageddon, a great war where good and evil will clash, fighting for the fate of the Universe. Some say good will triumph, others say not. In the time of Troy, three god-forged items were crafted. None of the gods who made these artifacts knew of the vital role each will play in that battle until history has molded them to its own needs. From Troy through Moses and to the Emperors of Rome, these items have been influenced by the sins and virtues of those who held them, and in return they have influenced their holders. From one hand to another they have been passed, through the generations. Only centuries after their making will their final purpose be known. No one truly knows when Armageddon is supposed to begin, but many believe it is right around the corner. They may very well be right. A time approaches where these artifacts will be sought; whether for good or evil remains to be seen. But to understand what these items are, it must be told how they came to be. Brought from Jerusalem to Samaria, the Cup is guarded by the last Daughter of Arnavon. But she has troubles of her own to worry about.

Book excerpt: Life is a gift. Most of us are incapable of receiving it as a gift because fear of failure, loss makes us hard, dry at heart. A dry heart appears to be narcissistic. In this book Evoline realized that she is a narcissistic human being and she missed out on the gift called life unknowingly. Her childhood hardship shaped her to be a control freak so she can survive. But this survival mechanism became her attitude. It is sad that it was too late when she realized she needed to correct her mindset. Evoline’s young husband Henry, on the other hand, ended up being a better human being through the discomforting companionship with Evoline. All characters here are very thirsty to recognize what works for life. Henry’s son Cooper is an amazing young man who guides his dad. His girlfriend is a beautiful sweet young lady who understands Cooper perfectly fine. In this book, not only emotional inadequacy is described but also a phenomenal social injustice is introduced. Characters came across this injustice and got engaged to resolve it. Henry finally found his life’s mission and he is happier than ever.
