This instructive information is interspersed with ‘war stores’ describing real-life problems with solutions that you can apply in your own work, whether you’re a sound designer, composer, or sound operator.
Book Synopsis Listening in Detail by : Alexandra T. Vazquez
Download or read book Listening in Detail written by Alexandra T. Vazquez and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2013-06-03 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Listening in Detail is an original and impassioned take on the intellectual and sensory bounty of Cuban music as it circulates between the island, the United States, and other locations. It is also a powerful critique of efforts to define "Cuban music" for ethnographic examination or market consumption. Contending that the music is not a knowable entity but a spectrum of dynamic practices that elude definition, Alexandra T. Vazquez models a new way of writing about music and the meanings assigned to it. "Listening in detail" is a method invested in opening up, rather than pinning down, experiences of Cuban music. Critiques of imperialism, nationalism, race, and gender emerge in fragments and moments, and in gestures and sounds through Vazquez's engagement with Alfredo Rodríguez's album Cuba Linda (1996), the seventy-year career of the vocalist Graciela Pérez, the signature grunt of the "Mambo King" Dámaso Pérez Prado, Cuban music documentaries of the 1960s, and late-twentieth-century concert ephemera.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parents have approximately 936 weeks from the time their child is born until he or she graduates from high school. It goes by fast. The responsibility to shape a child’s faith and character can seem overwhelming. If you are a parent, you have probably realized by now that you can’t make a toddler share. Can’t force a child to have faith. Can’t compel a teenager to make smart decisions. But there is something parents can do. They can make this week count. And then do it again, and again. In Don’t Miss It, authors Reggie Joiner and Kristen Ivy help parents discover that what they understand about their kids now has the potential to change their kids’ future. If parents don’t miss what’s happening during this phase of their kids’ lives, then maybe kids won’t miss some important things they need to know about life. That’s why what parents do this week matters. It’s just a phase. And none of us wants to miss it.

Book Synopsis THE NEW THEORY OF CONSCIOUSNESS by : DELANIN FADAHUNSY
Download or read book THE NEW THEORY OF CONSCIOUSNESS written by DELANIN FADAHUNSY and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new theory by observation and deduction, identifies that consciousness originated from nothing(zero; at the origin of living cells) and progressed in a gradual continuum through plant (vegetative) to reptiles to mammals to humans, illuminating how organisms attained those different levels, including the 'Permanent Access Memory (PAM) Hypothesis' in gaining self-consciousness. This theory discusses that mammals can only sleep at the level of reptilian consciousness (the sleep-wake consciousness) as the mammalian and human consciousness levels are sharp, focused cognitive states at which sleep is impossible. Rapid Eye Movement Behavioural Disorder (RBD) is the first safety net preventing mammals, at sleep, from falling through the consciousness-continuum into coma (vegetate consciousness) or death, and sleepwalking is the last vital safety net, if and when RBD fails; because even though a necessity for sleep, the reptilian consciousness is unsafe for mammals, due to the danger of sleeping through the Consciousness - Continuum to coma. It has now revealed, quite unexpectedly, the fact that in the state of consciousness referred to as sleepwalking, any act of aggression is impossible. Key word: Consciousness-Continuum. Download or read book Miss D & Me written by Kathryn Sermak and published by Hachette+ORM. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For ten years Kathryn Sermak was at Bette Davis's side--first as an employee, and then as her closest friend--and in Miss D and Me she tells the story of the great star's harrowing but inspiring final years, a story fans have been waiting decades to hear. Miss D and Me is a story of two powerful women, one at the end of her life and the other at the beginning. As Bette Davis aged she was looking for an assistant, but she found something more than that in Kathryn: a loyal and loving buddy, a co-conspirator in her jokes and schemes, and a competent assistant whom she trained never to miss a detail. But Miss D had strict rules for Kathryn about everything from how to eat a salad to how to wear her hair...even the spelling of Kathryn's name was changed (adding the "y") per Miss D's request. Throughout their time together, the two grew incredibly close, and Kathryn had a front-row seat to the larger-than-life Davis's career renaissance in her later years, as well as to the humiliating public betrayal that nearly killed Miss D. The frame of this story is a four-day road trip Kathryn and Davis took from Biarritz to Paris, during which they disentangled their ferocious dependency. Miss D and Me is a window into the world of the unique and formidable Bette Davis, told by the person who perhaps knew her best of all.
