Book Synopsis The Functional Nucleus by : David P. Bazett-Jones
Download or read book The Functional Nucleus written by David P. Bazett-Jones and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-17 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an in-depth overview on nuclear structure and function. It clearly shows that the epigenome and the three-dimensional organization of the nucleus are not independent properties. The intimate relationship between the location and the epigenetic modifications of gene loci is highlighted. Finally, it shows that the complex three-dimensional organization of the nucleus is not just of academic interest: The structure, composition and function of virtually all of the sub-nuclear compartments identified so far can be implicated to a list of human genetic diseases. Hence, a detailed elucidation of how these domains are assembled and function will provide new opportunities for therapeutic intervention in clinical practice.

Book Synopsis From Nucleons to the Atomic Nucleus by : Kris Heyde
Download or read book From Nucleons to the Atomic Nucleus written by Kris Heyde and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present text grew out of a number of lecture courses for advanced under graduate and new graduate students in nuclear physics. They were given at summer schools in Leuven, Melbourne, and at study weeks for Dutch grad uate students which aimed to emphasize fundamental and topical aspects of nuclear physics. On occasion, part of the present text was presented to stu dents from a much wider field than just nuclear physics and also within a number of general physics colloquia, where, in addition to nuclear physicists, physicists from many other fields were present. In this respect, the intention is to present, in an amply illustrated form, the key quest ions that arise in nuclear physics. At the same time we try to show why a better understanding of the atomic nucleus is not only important in itself, but also yields essential insights into the many connections to other fields of physics. We thus concen trate on the unifying themes rather than addressing in great detail particular subfields of nuclear physics. The present project does not aim to be another comprehensive textbook on nuclear physics: Many of the detailed technical arguments that enter into the picture are not developed here as they would be in a more standard textbook. Instead they are presented using analogies, quite often with simple pictures and arguments that try to convey the general line of thinking and working in nuclear physics.

Book Synopsis From Nucleons to Nucleus by : Jouni Suhonen
Download or read book From Nucleons to Nucleus written by Jouni Suhonen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-04-22 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Nucleons to Nucleus deals with single-particle and collective features of spherical nuclei. Each nuclear model is introduced and derived in detail. The formalism is then applied to light and medium-heavy nuclei in worked-out examples, and finally the acquired skills are strengthened by a wide selection of exercises, many relating the models to experimental data. Nuclear properties are discussed using particles, holes and quasi-particles. From Nucleons to Nucleus is based on lectures on nuclear physics given by the author, and serves well as a textbook for advanced students. Researchers too will appreciate it as a well-balanced reference to theoretical nuclear physics.
Download or read book Nucleus written by Rory Clements and published by Bonnier Publishing Fiction Ltd.. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER OF THE CWA HISTORICAL DAGGER 2018. The eve of war: a secret so deadly, nothing and no one is safe June 1939. England is partying like there's no tomorrow . . . but the good times won't last. The Nazis have invaded Czechoslovakia, in Germany Jewish persecution is widespread and, closer to home, the IRA has embarked on a bombing campaign. Perhaps most worryingly of all, in Germany Otto Hahn has produced man-made fission and an atomic device is now possible. German High Command knows Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory is also close, and when one of the Cavendish's finest brains is murdered, Professor Tom Wilde is drawn into the investigation. In a conspiracy that stretches from Cambridge to Berlin, and from the US to Ireland, can he discover the truth before it's too late? Praise for NUCLEUS 'Rory Clements evokes the nervous, reckless build-up to the outbreak of war in a convincingly detailed thriller' Daily Mail 'The series really hits its stride with the second volume. The murder of a physicist is one of many storylines that Clements juggles with aplomb' Daily Express 'A pulsating story that brings alive the fraught, paranoid and terrifying months when the world stood on the brink of war. Dark history with a thrilling fictional edge' Lancashire Evening Post 'Well-researched and plausible, Nucleus offers an attractive combination of history and suspense' Shots Magazine 'A pacy and dramatic historical spy thriller' Historical Novel Society 'I am already looking forward to the next Tom Wilde novel. This is a great read' Nudge Books 'Nucleus is a fascinating historical thriller which is totally convincing in its authenticity, alive with menace and teeming with characters that stay with you long after the last page is turned' Jaffa Reads Too Blog Praise for CORPUS 'Dramatic . . . pacy and assured' Daily Mail 'Political polarisation, mistrust and simmering violence' The Times 'A standout historical novel and spy thriller' Daily Express Praise for RORY CLEMENTS 'Enjoyable, bloody and brutish' Guardian 'Sends a shiver down your spine' Daily Mail 'A colourful history lesson . . . exciting narrative twists' Sunday Telegraph

Book Synopsis Nuclear Structure by : Giovanni Bonsignori
Download or read book Nuclear Structure written by Giovanni Bonsignori and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Conference OC Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the CenturyOCO was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleusOConucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects. Contents: Structure of Nuclei Far from the Valley of Beta-Stability; Nuclear Structure; Physics of High Spin States; Symmetries in Nuclear Structure; Collective Excitations; Nuclear Structure at Finite Temperature. Readership: Nuclear physicists."
