Download or read book Hell Minus One written by Anne A Johnson Davis and published by . This book was released on 2008-12-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hell Minus One is different from other previously published memoirs by victims of satanic ritual abuse. Instead of distressing, heart-breaking accounts without collaborative or corroborative evidence, Anne's parents confessed their atrocities¿both in writing and verbally¿to clergymen, and to detectives from the Utah Attorney General's Office. Anne's suppressed memories, which erupted when she was in her mid-30s, were fully substantiated by her mother and stepfather.Hell Minus One is an unforgettable and moving story that takes the reader to more than just the depths of human depravity. After Anne learned the horrible and heartbreaking truth about her childhood, she embarked on an amazing inner journey of healing¿and forgiveness. She knew she had to forgive her tormentors, or they would own her¿and define who she is¿for the rest of her life. The steps she took to heal and forgive, and to commit herself to a new life of love and purpose, are inspirational and legendary. Her commitment to own and define her own life inspires readers to see their own challenges in a new light.

Download or read book Three Minus One written by Sean Hanish and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-04-19 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three Minus One: Parents’ Stories of Love and Loss is a collection of intimate, soul-baring stories and artwork by parents who have lost a child to stillbirth, miscarriage, or neonatal death, inspired by the film Return to Zero. The loss of a child is unlike any other, and the impact that it has on the mother, the father, their family, and their friends is devastating—a shockwave of pain and guilt that spreads through their entire community. But the majority of those affected, especially mothers, often suffer their pain in silence, convinced that their grief and trauma is theirs to bear alone. This anthology of raw memoirs, heartbreaking stories, truthful poems, beautiful painting, and stunning photography from the parents who have suffered child loss offers insight into this unique, devastating and life-changing experience—breaking the silence and offering a ray of hope to the many parents out there in search of answers, understanding, and healing.
Download or read book Minus Me written by Mameve Medwed and published by Crooked Lane Books. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Her life turned upside down by a grim diagnosis, a small-town Maine woman sets about writing a "How To" life manual for her handsome yet hapless husband in a novel Elinor Lipman (Good Riddance, On Turpentine Lane) calls "smart, funny-quirky, and so very satisfying." Annie and her devoted but comically incompetent childhood sweetheart Sam are the owners and operators of Annie's, a gourmet sandwich shop, home to the legendary Paul Bunyan Special Sandwich--their "nutritionally challenged continual source of income and marital harmony and local fame." But into their mostly charmed marriage comes the scary medical diagnosis for Annie--and the overwhelming challenge of finding a way to help Sam go on without her. Annie decides to leave Sam step-by-step instructions for a future without her, and considers her own replacement in his heart and their bed.Her best-laid plans grind to a halt with the unexpected appearance of Ursula, Annie's Manhattan diva of a mother, who brings her own brand of chaos and disruption into their lives. Minus Me is a poignant and hilarious novel about the bonds of marriage, the burdens of maternal love, and the courage to face mortality, "with an ending readers will cherish (Caroline Leavitt, Pictures of You)." "Medwed's lovely novel of marriage, motherhood, love and loss is so real that at times it feels like non-fiction. It's a timely reminder that in the worst of times, we sometimes rediscover the very best of ourselves." --Jodi Picoult, New York Times bestselling author of A Spark of Light.

Download or read book T-Minus AI written by Michael Kanaan and published by BenBella Books. This book was released on 2020-08-25 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Late in 2017, the global significance of the conversation about artificial intelligence (AI) changed forever. China put the world on alert when it released a plan to dominate all aspects of AI across the planet. Only weeks later, Vladimir Putin raised a Russian red flag in response by declaring AI the future for all humankind, and proclaiming that, "Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world." The race was on. Consistent with their unique national agendas, countries throughout the world began plotting their paths and hurrying their pace. Now, not long after, the race has become a sprint. Despite everything at stake, to most of us AI remains shrouded by a cloud of mystery and misunderstanding. Hidden behind complicated and technical jargon and confused by fantastical depictions of science fiction, the modern realities of AI and its profound implications are hard to decipher, but crucial to recognize. In T-Minus AI: Humanity's Countdown to Artificial Intelligence and the New Pursuit of Global Power, author Michael Kanaan explains AI from a human-oriented perspective we can all finally understand. A recognized national expert and the U.S. Air Force's first Chairperson for Artificial Intelligence, Kanaan weaves a compelling new view on our history of innovation and technology to masterfully explain what each of us should know about modern computing, AI, and machine learning. Kanaan also dives into the global implications of AI by illuminating the cultural and national vulnerabilities already exposed and the pressing issues now squarely on the table. AI has already become China's all-purpose tool to impose its authoritarian influence around the world. Russia, playing catch up, is weaponizing AI through its military systems and now infamous, aggressive efforts to disrupt democracy by whatever disinformation means possible. America and like-minded nations are awakening to these new realities—and the paths they're electing to follow echo loudly the political foundations and, in most cases, the moral imperatives upon which they were formed. As we march toward a future far different than ever imagined, T-Minus AI is fascinating and crucially well-timed. It leaves the fiction behind, paints the alarming implications of AI for what they actually are, and calls for unified action to protect fundamental human rights and dignities for all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, economic growth and development of Nigeria after the crisis is discussed. Nigeria’s economy is projected to grow by 7 percent in 2011. Near-term risks to growth mostly relate to domestic factors. Nigeria’s strong external position and low debt helped mitigate the impact of the global financial crisis. Conflicting objectives of monetary policy and policy framework should focus more on price stability. Establishment of an asset management corporation to clean up the bank balance sheet is encouraged.
Book Synopsis Georgia by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book Georgia written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2004-06-09 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The staff report for the Request for a Three-Year Arrangement Under the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility on Georgia focuses on economic developments and policies. The fiscal situation deteriorated sharply in 2003, especially because of a weakening in expenditure management and in tax enforcement. Policy discussions focused on strategies to address the challenges inherited from the previous administration and to reinvigorate the reform drive. Georgia’s vulnerability to exogenous shocks and lingering tensions between central and regional authorities will continue to pose downward risks.
Book Synopsis The Gambia by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book The Gambia written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2012-06-06 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses the request from Gambian authorities for a three-year arrangement under the extended credit facility (ECF). The Gambian economy performed well during the previous IMF arrangement, which expired at the end of March 2011; however, there were slippages under the program. The authorities requested a new three-year ECF arrangement, with a large initial disbursement, but relatively low access overall. The initial disbursement would support stability during the current drought crisis, while remaining disbursements would encourage fiscal adjustment and catalyze donor support for the poverty reduction strategy.
Book Synopsis Cambodia by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book Cambodia written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2011-02-07 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to the global crisis, Cambodia enjoyed a decade of high growth and relative stability. However, as a result of the global crisis, output collapsed, and longstanding structural vulnerabilities have been exposed. Discussions focused on the dual policy challenge to safeguard macroeconomic stability and policy credibility, and to lay the foundations for broader-based and inclusive growth. It is recommended that the next Article IV Consultation take place on the standard 12-month cycle. IMF staff underscored the need for better and faster data for key economic statistics.
Book Synopsis Pakistan by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book Pakistan written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2004-07-21 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper assesses Pakistan’s Eighth Review Under the Three-Year Arrangement Under the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF) and Request for Waivers and Modification of Performance Criteria (PCs). Implementation of the PRGF program in Pakistan remains broadly on track. All quantitative performance criteria for end-December 2003 were met, and it seems that most indicative targets for end-March 2004 were also met. Structural reforms are advancing, albeit only slowly in the energy sector. Four structural performance criteria were breached, but the slippages were minor and mainly reflected timing issues.
Download or read book An Imaginary Tale written by Paul Nahin and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2010-02-22 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today complex numbers have such widespread practical use--from electrical engineering to aeronautics--that few people would expect the story behind their derivation to be filled with adventure and enigma. In An Imaginary Tale, Paul Nahin tells the 2000-year-old history of one of mathematics' most elusive numbers, the square root of minus one, also known as i. He recreates the baffling mathematical problems that conjured it up, and the colorful characters who tried to solve them. In 1878, when two brothers stole a mathematical papyrus from the ancient Egyptian burial site in the Valley of Kings, they led scholars to the earliest known occurrence of the square root of a negative number. The papyrus offered a specific numerical example of how to calculate the volume of a truncated square pyramid, which implied the need for i. In the first century, the mathematician-engineer Heron of Alexandria encountered I in a separate project, but fudged the arithmetic; medieval mathematicians stumbled upon the concept while grappling with the meaning of negative numbers, but dismissed their square roots as nonsense. By the time of Descartes, a theoretical use for these elusive square roots--now called "imaginary numbers"--was suspected, but efforts to solve them led to intense, bitter debates. The notorious i finally won acceptance and was put to use in complex analysis and theoretical physics in Napoleonic times. Addressing readers with both a general and scholarly interest in mathematics, Nahin weaves into this narrative entertaining historical facts and mathematical discussions, including the application of complex numbers and functions to important problems, such as Kepler's laws of planetary motion and ac electrical circuits. This book can be read as an engaging history, almost a biography, of one of the most evasive and pervasive "numbers" in all of mathematics.
