Book excerpt: In hard times, you can either panic, decline, or grow. Which do you choose to do? This is not a time to tweak your church budget. Download or read book Fool's Gold? written by John MacArthur and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Eureka!" In an age of open-mindedness, many believers accept too much with too little discernment, resulting in great confusion and compromise. But God's Word makes it clear that not everything that glitters is gold. False teaching is at every turn, and the temptation to embrace it is great. As God's people we are called to sift through the overwhelming number of traditions and trends and use the truth of Scripture to determine which are the true treasures-and which are "fool's gold." General editor John MacArthur and the contributors of this uncompromising book define the principles of biblical discernment and use them to address several contemporary Christian issues. They provide straightforward, biblical critiques of some popular but unfortunate Christian trends, such as watered-down preaching and doctrinally questionable best-selling books. Dr. MacArthur ends with a practical plan for cultivating discernment in the Christian life. It is the duty of every Christian-not just pastors and elders-to follow the biblical command to cling to what is good and to reject what is not. This book will equip you with a foundation for biblical discernment that will enable you to make careful distinctions in your thinking about truth.

Book Synopsis Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome by : R. Kent Hughes
Download or read book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome written by R. Kent Hughes and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-01-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year thousands of God's servants leave the ministry convinced they are failures. Years ago, in the midst of a crisis of faith, Kent Hughes almost became one of them. But instead he and his wife Barbara turned to God's Word, determined to learn what God had to say about success and to evaluate their ministry from a biblical point of view. This book describes their journey and their liberation from the "success syndrome"-the misguided belief that success in ministry means increased numbers. In today's world it is easy to be seduced by the secular thinking that places a number on everything. But the authors teach that true success in ministry lies not in numbers but in several key areas: faithfulness, serving, loving, believing, prayer, holiness, and a Christlike attitude. Their thoughts will encourage readers who grapple with feelings of failure and lead them to a deeper, fuller understanding of success in Christian ministry. This book was originally published by Tyndale in 1987 and includes a new preface.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a study in the principles given in the book of Revelation. The difficulties the church experienced during the first century, persecution, natural disasters, and social difficulties, are similar to the problems the modern church faces. These principles were given to instruct the servants of Christ in how to deal with and survive these events which come to all believers at one time or another. Clearly understanding who we are in Christ will enable us to be victorious. Sherman Critser graduated from Anderson College in 1976 with a BA in Biblical Studies. He then graduated from Anderson School of Theology in 1979 with a Masters in Missiology and later his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2005. In 1979 Sherman and his wife, Kay, began their missionary assignments in Tanzania. In 2005 Sherman became Regional Coordinator for Africa for Global Missions of the Church of God. The basis for this writing was Sherman's DMin Thesis, originally titled: Equipping the Church in Africa for Difficult times: A Pastoral Training Program from the Book of Revelation and was originally for the church in Africa. David Miller graduated from Anderson College in 1974 and spent three years in local church ministry in South San Francisco, California. Dave earned the Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1980.
