This book was released on 1990 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proposed "Energy Conservation Standards for New Federal Residential Buildings" are embodied in an interactive computer program which analyzes over 400 Energy Conservation Options (ECOs) for 9 housing types and 5 fuels across 1000 U.S. climate zones. The program uses Life-Cycle Cost (LCC) economic analyses in a two-step procedure to derive a result close to the "economic optimum": (1) an initial Savings-to-Investment Ratio (SIR) ranking, followed by (2) a series of Net Benefit (NB) iterations. Consideration is given to the interaction between the set of envelope and the set of mechanical equipment ECOs.

Book excerpt: Cradle-to-grave analyses are becoming the norm, as an increasing amount of corporations and government agencies are basing their procurement decisions not only on initial costs but also on life cycle costs. And while life cycle costing has been covered in journals and conference proceedings, few, if any, books have gathered this information into an

Book Synopsis Life-Cycle Cost Implications of More Stringent State Energy Codes by : J. D. Kneifel

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy efficiency requirements in energy codes vary across states, with states having adopted energy codes ranging across editions of the industry consensus standard (ASHRAE 90.1). Some states do not have a code requirement for energy efficiency, leaving it up to the locality or jurisdiction to set its own requirements. This paper uses ASTM building economic standards (E917-05(2010) and E1074-09) to estimate the impacts that the adoption of more stringent energy codes for commercial buildings would have on building life-cycle costs. The results are based on analysis of the Building Industry Reporting and Design for Sustainability (BIRDS) database. For this study, the performance of buildings designed to meet current state energy codes is compared to their performance when meeting a "Low Energy Case" (LEC) building design based on ASHRAE 189.1-2009, which increases energy efficiency beyond the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 design, to determine whether more stringent energy standard editions are life-cycle cost-effective in reducing energy consumption. The approach is described in detail for a single city and building type (Knoxville, TN). Using the same approach, the new savings for each building type in all cities for Tennessee are calculated. The estimated average savings for each of the building types are aggregated using state-level new commercial building construction data to calculate the magnitude of the net savings (80.8 GWh annually and USD28.1 x 106 in life-cycle costs) that Tennessee may realize if it were to adopt the LEC design as its state energy code. These state-level estimates are further aggregated to the national level, estimating the potential total impact from nationwide adoption of the LEC design to be 34 441 GWh and USD1.0 billion for 1 years' worth of construction for a 10-year study period.

Book Synopsis Energy Life Cycle Cost Analysis: Guidelines for Public Agencies by :
Download or read book Energy Life Cycle Cost Analysis: Guidelines for Public Agencies written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The State of Washington encourages energy-efficient building designs for public agencies. The Washington State Energy Office (WSEO) supports this goal by identifying advances in building technology and sharing this information with the design community and public administrators responsible for major construction projects. Many proven technologies can reduce operating costs-and save energy-to an extent that justifies some increases in construction costs. WSEO prepared these Energy Life Cycle Cost Analysis (ELCCA) guidelines for the individuals who are responsible for preparing ELCCA submittals for public buildings. Key terms and abbreviations are provided in Appendix A. Chapters 1 and 2 serve as an overview-providing background, defining energy life cycle cost analysis, explaining which agencies and projects are affected by the ELCCA requirements, and identifying changes to the guidelines that have been made since 1990. They explain[open-quotes]what needs to happen[close-quotes] and[open-quotes]why it needs to happen.[close-quotes] Chapters 3 to 7 provide the[open-quotes]how to, [close-quotes] the instructions and forms needed to prepare ELCCA submittals.
