Book Synopsis Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food by : de la Guardia
Download or read book Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food written by de la Guardia and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-20 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral elements are found in foods and drink of all differenttypes, from drinking water through to mothers’ milk. Thesearch for mineral elements has shown that many trace andultratrace-level elements presented in food are required for ahealthy life. By identifying and analysing these elements, it ispossible to evaluate them for their specific health-givingproperties, and conversely, to isolate their less desirableproperties with a view to reducing or removing them altogether fromsome foods. The analysis of mineral elements requires a number ofdifferent techniques – some methods may be suitable for onefood type yet completely unsuited to another. The Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food is the firstbook to bring together the analytical techniques, the regulatoryand legislative framework, and the widest possible range of foodtypes into one comprehensive handbook for food scientists andtechnologists. Much of the book is based on the authors’ owndata, most of which is previously unpublished, making theHandbook of Mineral Elements in Food a vital andup-to-the-minute reference for food scientists in industry andacademia alike. Analytical chemists, nutritionists and food policymakers will also find it an invaluable resource. Showcasing contributions from international researchers, andconstituting a major resource for our future understanding of thetopic, the Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food is anessential reference and should be found wherever food science andtechnology are researched and taught.

Book Synopsis Minerals, Metals and Sustainability by : WJ Rankin
Download or read book Minerals, Metals and Sustainability written by WJ Rankin and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2011-09-14 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minerals, Metals and Sustainability examines the exploitation of minerals and mineral products and the implications for sustainability of the consumption of finite mineral resources and the wastes associated with their production and use. It provides a multi-disciplinary approach that integrates the physical and earth sciences with the social sciences, ecology and economics. Increasingly, graduates in the minerals industry and related sectors will not only require a deep technical and scientific understanding of their fields (such as geology, mining, metallurgy), but will also need a knowledge of how their industry relates to and can contribute to the transition to sustainability. Minerals, Metals and Sustainability is an important reference for students of engineering and applied science and geology; practising engineers, geologists and scientists; students of economics, social sciences and related disciplines; professionals in government service in areas such as resources, environment and sustainability; and non-technical professionals working in the minerals industry or in sectors servicing the minerals industry.
Download or read book Geomedicine (1990) written by Jul Lag and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating work features such topics as the relationships between iodine deficiency and goiter, fluorine deficiency and caries, selenium deficiency and muscular degeneration, mercury surplus and specific nerve diseases, cadmium surplus and kidney failure. This one-of-a-kind volume reveals discoveries which may be of importance in future preventive medicine for man and animals. It shows that the comprehensive progress in chemical analyses has established a valuable basis for determining many environmental features and for the foundation of modern geomedicine. Those involved with geology, soil science, nutrition, biology, veterinary sciences, and prophylactic socio-medical sciences will find this resource indispensable.

Book Synopsis Nuclear Analytical Techniques in Medicine by : R. Cesareo
Download or read book Nuclear Analytical Techniques in Medicine written by R. Cesareo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will acquaint the interested physician or physicist with the fundamental principles and the instrumentation relevant to analytical techniques based on atomic and nuclear physics, as well as present and future biomedical applications. Besides providing a theoretical description of the physical phenomena, a large part of the book is devoted to applications in the medical and biological field, particularly in haematology, forensic medicine and environmental science.Analysis of the elemental composition of human tissues and cells and in particular trace elements has attracted increasing interest over the last few years, due to the increase in knowledge on the role of some elements and the possible correlations between abnormal concentrations of one or more trace elements and pathological conditions. This has stimulated the development of analytical techniques which allow the detection of trace elements simultaneously and at very low concentrations. Particularly in methods involving nuclear principles or nuclear apparatus, many techniques have been largely and successfully developed in recent years and applied in the medical field. This volume reviews methods such as the possibility of carrying out rapid multi-element analysis of trace elements on biomedical samples, in vitro and in vivo, by XRF-analysis; the ability of the PIXE-microprobe to analyze in detail and to map trace elements in fragments of biomedical samples or inside the cells; the potentiality of in vivo nuclear activation analysis for diagnostic purposes. Finally, techniques are described such as radiation scattering (elastic and inelastic scattering) and attenuation measurements which will undoubtedly see great development in the immediate future.
