Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of poetry is a story of my life and of changes that have contributed toward what I am today. The poetry ranges from love poems, spiritual aspirations, gothic and abstract pieces, and narratives. It is a collection of how an autistic sees the world, as if looking out the window at the world yet never able to join. This book contains controversial subjects and profanity, as censorship of language goes against free expression. This book contains a variety of poems and short stories that has influenced my life as well as shows the particular torment a person living with PSTD has. I wanted to show the world what looking at the world through my lenses is like, and I am sure there are countless others who prefer a realistic approach as opposed to ignoring the hardships this world thrusts on people. A unique perspective of life. I also hope to make aware to people the dangers of religion and how religion can be controlling. There is a section of poetry from my Christian days that I have kept for the sake of art. These are from experiences in living in fear of Christian brimstone preaching. A lot of that fear underlies my earlier work as well as a deep, relenting anger at the oppressor that I feared, which was religion. Regardless, I would love to discuss the role of religion in peoples lives and determine how we can live in a society that practices spirituality as opposed to strict rules that are open to interpretation. Traditions are something I have come to hate, a disussion of which can be found in the latter portion of the book. Finally, it is my hope that my creative writing might inspire further creativity and expression of personal experience. I wish to share my art and have an intellectual experience that opens a persons mind to a bigger universe than they have perceived.

This question leads Jan De Vos to examine the different metamorphoses of the brain: the educated brain, the material brain, the iconographic brain, the sexual brain, the celebrated brain and, finally, the political brain. This first, protracted and sustained argument on neurologisation, which lays bare its lineage with psychologisation, should be taken seriously by psychologists, educationalists, sociologists, students of cultural studies, policy makers and, above all, neuroscientists themselves.

Book excerpt: Does life have any purpose? We see that all organisms have two fundamental objectives in their lives; one is reproduction, and another is to stay alive as long as possible. But when we talk about humans, we are more complex; the level of consciousness present in humans is higher than that of any other organisms and inanimate things. However, all humans are not conscious equally. Why is someone poor, wretched, and depressed, whereas the other is healthy, prosperous, and happy? Everything is vibrating; thoughts produce specific frequencies of the wave. The frequency of love, affection, and prosperity is different from hate, affliction, and adversity. Human minds act as the tuning fork; when something vibrates with a particular frequency, the mind catches the same vibration without coming into physical touch. This means our mind can attract health, wealth, and wisdom if it is introduced with those. Thoughts arise in the mind and shape our behaviors. Thoughts as energy cannot be destroyed but can be transferred into reality through actions. A Mental Metamorphosis of Mind offers all proven exercises, backed up with academic research Journals, to permanently transform all areas of one's life. 100% guarantee for: · Accessing the Subconscious mind for health, wealth, and innovative ideas. · Growing dendrites in neurons and reverse aging. · Fast repairing of impaired cells. · Becoming emotionally unshakable. · Transforming one’s mental vibration permanently. · Connecting one's mind with the Akashic record for profound knowledge. · Spiritual awakening and enhancing the imagination. · Becoming invincible from powerless. · Repairing aura and becoming the center of attraction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Kafka, the author has very nicely narrated the story of Gregou Samsa who wakes up one day to discover that he has metamorphosed into a bug. The book concerns itself with the themes of alienation and existentialism. The author has written many important stories, including ‘The Judgement’, and much of his novels ‘Amerika’, ‘The Castle’, ‘The Hunger Artist’. Many of his stories were published during his lifetime but many were not. Over the course of the 1920s and 30s Kafka’s works were published and translated instantly becoming landmarks of twentieth-century literature. Ironically, the story ends on an optimistic note, as the family puts itself back together. The style of the book epitomizes Kafka’s writing. Kafka very interestingly, used to present an impossible situation, such as a man’s transformation into an insect, and develop the story from there with perfect realism and intense attention to detail. The Metamorphosis is an autobiographical piece of writing, and we find that parts of the story reflect Kafka’s own life.

Book excerpt: The origins of selected instances of metamorphosis in Germanic literature are traced from their roots in Ovid's Metamorphoses, grouped roughly on an 'ascending evolutionary scale' (invertebrates, birds, animals, and mermaids). Whilst a broad range of mythological, legendary, fairytale and folktale traditions have played an appreciable part, Ovid's Metamorphoses is still an important comparative analysis and reference point for nineteenth- and twentieth-century German-language narratives of transformations. Metamorphosis is most often used as an index of crisis: an existential crisis of the subject or a crisis in a society's moral, social or cultural values. Specifically selected texts for analysis include Jeremias Gotthelf's Die schwarze Spinne (1842) with the terrifying metamorphoses of Christine into a black spider, the metamorphosis of Gregor Samsa in Kafka's Die Verwandlung (1915), ambiguous metamorphoses in E. T. A. Hoffmann's Der goldne Topf (1814), Hermann Hesse's Piktors Verwandlungen (1925), Der Steppenwolf (1927) and Christoph Ransmayr's Die letzte Welt (1988). Other mythical metamorphoses are examined in texts by Bachmann, Fouqué, Fontane, Goethe, Nietzsche, Nelly Sachs, Thomas Mann and Wagner, and these and many others confirm that metamorphosis is used historically, scientifically, for religious purposes; to highlight identity, sexuality, a dream state, or for metaphoric, metonymic or allegorical reasons.

Book excerpt: Fusing the methods of comparative literature, intellectual history, and philosophical analysis, Harold Skulsky explores a motif that has fascinated storytellers since antiquity: the miraculous transformation of a character into a plant, an animal, or a different human being. The thesis of the study is that the fantasy of metamorphosis challenges the narrator and his audience to confront certain basic anxieties about the human condition: Is the mind reducible to physical properties? What constitutes personhood? How does physical form affect personal identity and continuity of the self? Testing instances in which these and related perplexities appear in literature, Skulsky systematically and provocatively interprets ten major illustrative texts drawn from diverse epochs and languages, including the works of Homer, Ovid, Apuleius, Marie de France, Dante, Donne, Spenser, Keats, Kafka, and Woolf. Through Skulsky's masterly analysis the victims of metamorphosis in narrative literature--whether werewolf, ass, beetle, swine, or tree--provide a profound insight into the complexities of human experience.

Book excerpt: Metamorphosis contains answers to questions that are universal. It is written in a conversational style because I have no standing in the worlds of science or theology; which require the use of specific writing formats. This is by choice. The reasons are made explicit in the text and may surprise readers. I began my search for answers as a young boy on behalf of my father. Now I am an old man. It was a steep learning curve. What I have discovered is that, first of all, from the largest to the smallest scale of existence, there are just three things: Space, Energy, and Quantity. Within each of these three components are fundamental concepts: Space – Boundary Force, Energy – Wave Motion, and Quantity – Number. These three concepts within the components of existence are interlocked and continuously interacting across both physical and metaphysical existence; according to the Laws of Change: The change of quantity into quality; and vice versa, the transition into opposites, and the negation of negation. There is a strong basis in the body of human knowledge upon which to conclude that there is a next life, as well as, an afterlife. And, there exists a ‘living’ a higher power in the afterlife; both Evil and Good. Lastly, immorality and morality are definable and quantifiable concepts; which can be clearly understood in terms of the core values of each.

But the course of this change does not seem to be haphazard and we may seek the modalities of its Logos in the transformations in which it occurs. The classic term 'Metamorphosis' focuses upon the proportions between the transformed and the retained, the principles of sameness and otherness. Applied to life and its becoming, metamorphosis pinpoints the proportions between the vital and the aesthetic significance of life. Where could this metaphysical in-between territory come better to light than in the Fine Arts? In this collection are investigated the various proportions between the vital significance of the constructivism of life and a specifically human contribution made by the creative imagination to the transformatory search for beauty and aesthetic values. Book excerpt: The experiences and hardships the author encountered in life as a student and thereafter lead her to write this book.Living life is a burden for some, turmoil for others, happiness for a few and enjoyment for some. People usually get stuck in life after some unpleasant incidence and are unable to move ahead in their lives. Living a happy, content and satisfied life is an art, very few people have mastered. The more and more people become experts in this aspect, the more peace will prevail in the world and we would not have to distinguish between heaven and hell. Each human being has the capacity to create their heaven on earth for themselves. The day we realise our own potential, we would be magicians of our lives. The protagonist of the book METAMORPHOSIS Dr. Shalinii is fighting a lone battle in adverse conditions to create a nonexistent world. The memories of her dear husband, whom she loves a lot, and her medical life haunt her and at the same time give her strength to deal with the challenges she faces. Will she win the battle of her own life?

This book is available as an open access ebook under a CC-BY-NC-ND licence. What is autism and where has it come from? Increased diagnostic rates, the rise of the 'neurodiversity' movement, and growing autism journalism, have recently fuelled autism's fame and controversy. The metamorphosis of autism is the first book to explain our current fascination with autism by linking it to a longer history of childhood development. Drawing from a staggering array of primary sources, Bonnie Evans traces autism back to its origins in the early twentieth century and explains why the idea of autism has always been controversial and why it experienced a 'metamorphosis' in the 1960s and 1970s. Evans takes the reader on a journey of discovery from the ill-managed wards of 'mental deficiency' hospitals, to high-powered debates in the houses of parliament, and beyond. The book will appeal to a wide market of scholars and others interested in autism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Approaching the different and manifold sequences in this book... one will gradually come to realise that metamorphosis can become an ideal for knowledge, a guiding path for self-knowledge and knowledge of the world – as intuitive contemplation and as artistic creation.’ – Dr Peter Wolf What is metamorphosis? Through the medium of art, sculptor Gertraud Goodwin invites us to enter the realm of time and continuously changing movement in this highly original book. With chapters by various artists and writers, interwoven with her key insights, Goodwin offers numerous points of entry to understanding the mystery of metamorphosis. Profusely-illustrated in colour, we are shown many sequences of images – of sculptures, reliefs and graphic works – which, with the aid of informed commentary, we are invited to ‘read’. These images belong together, developing from one to the next – just as single experiences and events in life belong to our biographies. One motif, one movement, passes through all stages, from simple beginnings and more differentiated formations, to a culmination – and, from there, back to a more mature simplicity and concentration, which makes a new beginning possible. ‘In relation to the transcendent, where ordinary words fail, the language of form, texture and relations in space, like those of music in time, offer alternatives to words, perhaps less encumbered by preconceptions. These pages offer many examples of the beauties and mysteries of metamorphosis, which is itself an essential component of Nature’s creative language.’ – Dr Philip Kilner
