Book excerpt: Game theory is a branch of modern applied mathematics that aims to analyze various problems of conflict between parties that have opposed, similar or simply different interests.Games are grouped into several classes according to some important features. In this volume zero-sum two-person games, strategic n-person games in normal form, cooperative games, games in extensive form with complete and incomplete information, differential pursuit games and differential cooperative n-person games are considered.

Book Synopsis Foundations of Mathematical Optimization by : Diethard Ernst Pallaschke
Download or read book Foundations of Mathematical Optimization written by Diethard Ernst Pallaschke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many books on optimization consider only finite dimensional spaces. This volume is unique in its emphasis: the first three chapters develop optimization in spaces without linear structure, and the analog of convex analysis is constructed for this case. Many new results have been proved specially for this publication. In the following chapters optimization in infinite topological and normed vector spaces is considered. The novelty consists in using the drop property for weak well-posedness of linear problems in Banach spaces and in a unified approach (by means of the Dolecki approximation) to necessary conditions of optimality. The method of reduction of constraints for sufficient conditions of optimality is presented. The book contains an introduction to non-differentiable and vector optimization. Audience: This volume will be of interest to mathematicians, engineers, and economists working in mathematical optimization.
Book Synopsis Constraint Networks by : Christophe Lecoutre
Download or read book Constraint Networks written by Christophe Lecoutre and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major challenge in constraint programming is to develop efficient generic approaches to solve instances of the constraint satisfaction problem (CSP). With this aim in mind, this book provides an accessible synthesis of the author's research and work in this area, divided into four main topics: representation, inference, search, and learning. The results obtained and reproduced in this book have a wide applicability, regardless of the nature of the problem to be solved or the type of constraints involved, making it an extremely user-friendly resource for those involved in this field.

Book Synopsis Well-Posed Optimization Problems by : Assen L. Dontchev
Download or read book Well-Posed Optimization Problems written by Assen L. Dontchev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in a unified way the mathematical theory of well-posedness in optimization. The basic concepts of well-posedness and the links among them are studied, in particular Hadamard and Tykhonov well-posedness. Abstract optimization problems as well as applications to optimal control, calculus of variations and mathematical programming are considered. Both the pure and applied side of these topics are presented. The main subject is often introduced by heuristics, particular cases and examples. Complete proofs are provided. The expected knowledge of the reader does not extend beyond textbook (real and functional) analysis, some topology and differential equations and basic optimization. References are provided for more advanced topics. The book is addressed to mathematicians interested in optimization and related topics, and also to engineers, control theorists, economists and applied scientists who can find here a mathematical justification of practical procedures they encounter.

Book Synopsis Behaviourism in Studying Swarms: Logical Models of Sensing and Motoring by : Andrew Schumann
Download or read book Behaviourism in Studying Swarms: Logical Models of Sensing and Motoring written by Andrew Schumann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-25 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents fundamental theoretical results for designing object-oriented programming languages for controlling swarms. It studies the logics of swarm behaviours. According to behaviourism, all behaviours can be controlled or even managed by stimuli in the environment: attractants (motivational reinforcement) and repellents (motivational punishment). At the same time, there are two main stages in reactions to stimuli: sensing (perceiving signals) and motoring (appropriate direct reactions to signals). This book examines the strict limits of behaviourism from the point of view of symbolic logic and algebraic mathematics: how far can animal behaviours be controlled by the topology of stimuli? On the one hand, we can try to design reversible logic gates in which the number of inputs is the same as the number of outputs. In this case, the behaviouristic stimuli are inputs in swarm computing and appropriate reactions at the motoring stage are its outputs. On the other hand, the problem is that even at the sensing stage each unicellular organism can be regarded as a logic gate in which the number of outputs (means of perceiving signals) greatly exceeds the number of inputs (signals).
