Especially designed for the developing home shop. It’s a horizontal miller, but it has the full range of vertical mill capability when used with the angle plate on the work table. Extremely rigid and versatile. The work table is 2 3/8" x 12" with a 3/8" T-slot and it travels a full 12". Eight speeds from 43 rpm to 2430 rpm. The spindle raises as much as 6" above the work table and the transmission is designed to follow the vertical travel without straining the column or changing the belt tension. Accessories included in the project are angle plate, face plate, fly cutter, tail-stand and compound slide assembly with which you can do large swing lathe jobs. Still no need to look for outside help. It’s a miller and more, and you can build it your self.

Book excerpt: Milling is the machining process of using rotary cutters to remove material from a workpiece. It covers a wide variety of different operations and is one the most the commonly used processes in industries and machine shops today. In this book, the authors propose an approach that provides good evaluation results within a short interpolation time for rapidly evaluating non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) curves and surfaces in actual machining processes. The next chapter explores a regression model of the milling tool wear by using the multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) technique in a regular cut as well as entry cut and exit cut. The remaining chapters evaluate the applications and limitations of the milling process using the breakage matrix approach; mechanochemistry (which connects mining and metallurgical operations) as a way to develop new materials and to develop environmentally friendly and economical technologies; and an experimental investigation on automated wrought aluminum alloy using uncoated sintered carbide end mills with different helix angles (the main aim of all machining operations is to obtain lower machining costs by improving the quality and productivity. Furthermore, the consumer's focus on environmentally conscious products has put increased pressure on industries to minimise the use of cutting fluids).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To build this small milling machine, of course, you need a lathe and also a milling machine with almost all accessories and tools. You cannot build such a machine at the kitchen table! So, why should a milling machine owner build another small milling machine? • Because he enjoys what he has made himself and the challenge of doing so • Because he does not want to "bother" with a large milling machine with high power consumption for particularly small milling parts in the future. • Because it is simply pleasant to work with such a small machine. In addition to the meticulously compiled building instructions, author Jürgen Eichardt provides numerous references to other book publications and background information on metalworking. However, the book assumes knowledge of the numerous techniques and the milling and turning rules as known. As an introduction to this extensive do-it-yourself project, it is therefore advisable to read the entire book first as a "textbook" before then tackling the construction of the small milling machine and its accessories step by step. From the content: • Basic conception of the milling machine • Revision of the cross table • Base plate and machine stand • Height slide and drive height support • rotary plate, milling head, drilling head • milling spindle construction, pulleys, motor bearings • collets, ER11 collet chucks, clamping devices • Machine vice and vice shims • Rotary table, vice stop • Special mandrels, horizontal dividing head • Swivel plate and digital height measuring device • ER11 and chuck adapters, hole nut wrench • Extensive glossary of terms and sources of supply • Further literature on the subject • Complete parts list for the small milling machine

This book was released on 2017-01-10 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We use an industry profit maximization model to conduct an ex-post impact assessment on the extent the rice milling sector in Nigeria has grown and improved its performance in producing high quality premium rice following major public sector interventions made under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda. Given challenges with the availability and qual-ity of data, this assessment looks at the changes between two periods, 2009 and 2013, and simulates the performance of the sector under different technology capacities and policy scenarios. We find that the government has been success-ful in expanding quality paddy production and milling capacity in the country along with an increase in capacity utilization in the medium and large-scale milling sub-sectors. As a result, the production of premium quality rice has increased by approximately 0.5 million metric tons between the two periods. Despite these gains, the industry did not see any overall increase in employment in the medium and large-scale sub-sectors. Further focus by the government on expanding the supply of high quality rice paddy, while maintaining high tariffs to keep the medium and large scale milling sector viable, may provide the best opportunity for Nigeria to reach its goal of self-sufficiency in rice production.

The basic knowledge is thus available, now it can go to the application in practice. Here you will learn how the various milling tools work and how to use them correctly. Simple milling operations are discussed just as thoroughly as supposedly difficult applications, for example the very important work according to coordinates, the milling of gears or even helical milling. In addition, there are many tips on correct measuring, the prerequisite for accurate results, as well as on safe handling of the machine. Jürgen Eichardt explains everything in detail and in an easy-to-understand manner, showing in more than 270 photos and drawings what is important. In this way, you can progress from simple tasks to the high school of hobby milling all by yourself.

Book excerpt: Chromium, with and without 4 volume percent thoria, and nickel powders were ground to fine powder sizes by ball-milling in gaseous hydrogen halides. After reducing the milled chromium in flowing hydrogen under pulsating pressure at about 680 deg C submicron-size powders with 4 to 500 ppm residual halogens were obtained. The compacted chromium-thoria alloys had interparticle spacings ranging from 2. 1 to 6. 5 micrometers. After 100 hours at 1318 deg C the interparticle spacing of the 2. 1-micrometer alloy increased to 5.2 micrometers. Submicron-size chromium and nickel powders were also obtained by pulsating hydrogen reduction of their chlorides.
