Les effets combinés de cycles de gel-dégel et la présence de sel de déglaçage sont les raisons principales de dégradation des structures. De plus, la présence de fissures accélère considérablement la dégradation en offrant un chemin préférentiel à la pénétration des agents agressifs. Grâce à leur grande résistance en compression et leur comportement ductile en traction, leur faible perméabilité et grande résistance à la pénétration des ions chlorure, l'utilisation des bétons fibrés à ultra-haute performance (BFUP) est une solution de choix pour augmenter la durée de vie des structures. Plusieurs études évaluent la durabilité du BFUP en utilisant les mêmes méthodes que pour le béton ordinaire, soit avec des échantillons de BFUP sain et les résultats de ces études confirment la durabilité exceptionnel du matériau. Cependant, en état de service, le BFUP comme le béton ordinaire présente des fissures soit en raison du retrait ou de la charge appliquée à la structure. Il est bien connu que, pour le béton ordinaire, la durabilité du matériau diminue grandement une fois fissurée au-delà d'un seuil critique. Le BFUP ayant un comportement plus ductile, il est possible de s'attendre à une meilleure durabilité que le béton ordinaire pour une même déformation. Cependant, peu d'études permettent de faire un lien direct entre la durabilité du matériau et l'ouverture des fissures du matériaux lorsqu'il est mis sous charge. Ce projet de maîtrise se divise en deux parties. La première est de faire la caractérisation de la durabilité de différents mélanges de BFUP, disponibles au Québec. La seconde partie consiste à caractériser la résistance à la pénétration des ions chlorure pour des poutres de BFUP soumises à une charge de flexion. Ces poutres présentent des micro-fissures du même ordre de grandeur qu'à l'état de service. Pour la caractérisation de la durabilité de différents mélanges, des informations sur la porosité des matériaux, la résistance à l'écaillage et la perméabilité aux ions chlorure sont obtenus. La perméabilité est évaluée selon un essai de migration accéléré et selon une procédure modifiée de cet essai accéléré, développée et adaptée pour les BFUP lors de précédents travaux. Les résultats confirment l'excellente durabilité des BFUP. La procédure modifiée de l'essai de migration accélérée reste difficile à mener pour des matériaux comportant des fibres métalliques et es améliorations sont suggérées. Pour l'évaluation de la perméabilité aux ions chlorure des poutres de BFUP maintenues sous charge, un montage et une méthode d'essai ont été développés et validés. L'analyse par corrélation d'images numériques est utilisée pour l'observation et la mesures des ouvertures des fissures. La perméabilité aux ions chlorures des poutres maintenues sous charge est évaluée par un essai de migration accélérée. Les coefficients de diffusion des ions chlorures obtenus pour les poutres fissurées sont inférieures à celui de la poutre de référence non chargée. Ce résultat inattendu est également observé avec les profils de chlorure. L'application d'un courant électrique pour l'accélération de l'essai de migration et la présence de micro-fissure pourrait être en cause. Une recherche plus exhaustive à ce sujet doit être menée pour comprendre ce phénomène.

Le programme d'essais a ete concu de maniere a analyser l'effet du rapport eau/liant, du type de liant, du tpe de gros granulat, de la longueur de la cure et du facteur d'espacement des bulles d'air. Les resultats demontrent que la valeur limite du rapport eau/liant, en dessous de laquelle l'air entraine n'est plus necessaire pour proteger le beton contre les cycles de gel dans l'eau, peut etre usperieure a 0,30 dans certains cas, mais qu'elle est plus generalement inferieure a 0,25. Cette valeur limite est surtout influencee par les caracteristiques du ciment, puisque le ciment de type 30 a permis de produire des betons nettement plus durables. Les essais d'ecaillage en laboratoire ont demontre que pour des rapports eau/liant inferieurs a 0,30, la resistance aux sels de deglacage est generalement tres bonne, quel que soit le type de ciment, la teneur en fumee de silice ou le facteur d'espacement des bulles d'air du beton.
