Book Synopsis Integrated Evaluation for the Management of Contemporary Cities by : Giulio Mondini
Download or read book Integrated Evaluation for the Management of Contemporary Cities written by Giulio Mondini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-06 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights a selection of the best papers presented at the 2016 SIEV conference “The Laudato sì Encyclical Letter and Valuation. Cities between Conflict and Solidarity, Decay and Regeneration, Exclusion and Participation”, which was held in Rome, Italy, in April 2016, and brought together experts from a diverse range of fields – economics, appraisal, architecture, energy, urban planning, sociology, and the decision sciences – and government representatives. The book is divided into four parts: Human Ecology: Values and Paradigms; Integral Ecology and Natural Resource Management; Intergenerational Equity; and How to Enhance Dialogue and Transparency in Decision-making Processes. Cities are where 72% of all Europeans live, and this percentage is expected to rise to 80% by 2050. Given this trend towards urbanization, cities are continuously growing, which also entails a growing risk of social segregation, lack of security and mounting environmental problems. All too often, today’s cities have to cope with social and environmental crises, shifting the European urban agenda towards regeneration processes. Urban regeneration is more complex than merely renovating existing buildings, as it also involves social and environmental problems, inhabitants’ quality of life, protecting tangible and intangible cultural resources, innovation and business.

Balakrishnan and Normal L. Johnson Discrete Multivariate Distributions by Samuel Kotz, N. Balakrishnan and Normal L. Johnson Univariate Discrete Distributions, 3rd Edition by Samuel Kotz, N. Balakrishnan and Normal L. Johnson Discover the latest advances in discrete distributions theory The Third Edition of the critically acclaimed Univariate Discrete Distributions provides a self-contained, systematic treatment of the theory, derivation, and application of probability distributions for count data. Generalized zeta-function and q-series distributions have been added and are covered in detail. New families of distributions, including Lagrangian-type distributions, are integrated into this thoroughly revised and updated text. Additional applications of univariate discrete distributions are explored to demonstrate the flexibility of this powerful method. A thorough survey of recent statistical literature draws attention to many new distributions and results for the classical distributions. Approximately 450 new references along with several new sections are introduced to reflect the current literature and knowledge of discrete distributions. Beginning with mathematical, probability, and statistical fundamentals, the authors provide clear coverage of the key topics in the field, including: Families of discrete distributions Binomial distribution Poisson distribution Negative binomial distribution Hypergeometric distributions Logarithmic and Lagrangian distributions Mixture distributions Stopped-sum distributions Matching, occupancy, runs, and q-series distributions Parametric regression models and miscellanea Emphasis continues to be placed on the increasing relevance of Bayesian inference to discrete distribution, especially with regard to the binomial and Poisson distributions. New derivations of discrete distributions via stochastic processes and random walks are introduced without unnecessarily complex discussions of stochastic processes. Throughout the Third Edition, extensive information has been added to reflect the new role of computer-based applications. With its thorough coverage and balanced presentation of theory and application, this is an excellent and essential reference for statisticians and mathematicians.

Book Synopsis Identity, Competition and Electoral Availability by : Stefano Bartolini
Download or read book Identity, Competition and Electoral Availability written by Stefano Bartolini and published by ECPR Press. This book was released on 2007-09-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of whether Western party systems were becoming more unstable and electorates more volatile had already become central to the study of modern European by the end of the 1970s. Much of the literature at the time stressed how Western Europe was experiencing a phase of party breakdown, dealignment and decay, and how traditional mass politics was in the process of transformation. In this first book-length analysis of the subject, Stefano Bartolini and Peter Mair convincingly demonstrated how this emphasis on change had been largely misconceived and misplaced. This was the first systematic and conceptually sophisticated work to bring together the study of electoral change and cleavage persistence, and has since become one of the landmark volumes in the study of electoral politics in Europe. The authors examine patterns of electoral persistence and change in Western Europe between 1885 and 1985. They assess both what these patterns indicate with regard to the persistence of traditional cleavages, particularly the class cleavage, and how these patterns vary according to political, institutional and social factors. They analyse the various patterns of competition which have characterised elections across the different European countries and in different historical periods, and how cleavages can persist and re-emerge even in the face of widespread social change. They develop a sophisticated model of aggregate electoral change, in which national electorates are conceived as being torn between the stability brought about by cultural identities and organisational structures and the stimuli for change that are provoked by party competition and institutional change. Identity, Competition and Electoral Availability was awarded the Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research and is now reprinted for the first time in paperback.
