Mike Linhart and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) maintains approxi- mately 148 real-time streamgages in Iowa for which daily mean streamflow information is available, but daily mean streamflow data commonly are needed at locations where no streamgages are present. Therefore, the USGS conducted a study as part of a larger project in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to develop methods to estimate daily mean streamflow at locations in ungaged watersheds in Iowa by using two regression-based statistical methods. The regression equations for the statistical methods were developed from historical daily mean streamflow and basin characteristics from streamgages within the study area, which includes the entire State of Iowa and adjacent areas within a 50-mile buffer of Iowa in neighboring states. Results of this study can be used with other techniques to determine the best method for application in Iowa and can be used to produce a Web-based geographic information system tool to compute streamflow estimates automatically.

This book was released on 2014-10-09 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water-resource managers use daily mean streamflows to generate streamflow statistics and analyze streamflow condi-tions. An in-depth evaluation of flow regimes to promote instream ecological health often requires streamflow informa-tion obtainable only from a time series hydrograph. Histori-cally, it has been difficult to estimate daily mean streamflow for an ungaged location. The U.S. Geological Survey, in coop-eration with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Susquehanna River Basin Commission, and The Nature Conservancy, has developed the Baseline Streamflow Estimator (BaSE) to estimate baseline streamflow at a daily time scale for ungaged streams in Pennsylvania using data collected during water years 1960–2008.

Book Synopsis Peak Streamflow Estimation for Kentucky Streams Using Historical Streamflow Records by : John Edwin Spalding
Download or read book Peak Streamflow Estimation for Kentucky Streams Using Historical Streamflow Records written by John Edwin Spalding and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work develops a method of estimating peak daily streamflow, Q peak, for Kentucky streams using daily average streamflow, Q ave, data from the United States Geological Survey's (USGS) National Water Information System (NWIS) website. The purpose of doing this is to develop a systematic approach to increase the number of Q peak values available for frequency analysis. Specifically, the enhanced record of Q peak values will allow estimation of flood flow magnitudes with recurrence intervals of less than one year. Stream gages with drainage areas less than 1,000 square miles are examined to analyze stream corridors that are most commonly considered for stream restoration projects. The developed method is applied to three stream gages for a period of one year each to demonstrate how it may be applied increase the number of Q peak values available for frequency analysis.
