Book Synopsis Elastic/Plastic Discs Under Plane Stress Conditions by : Sergey Alexandrov
Download or read book Elastic/Plastic Discs Under Plane Stress Conditions written by Sergey Alexandrov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-15 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Volume presents a unified approach to calculate the plane stress distribution of stress and strain in thin elastic/plastic discs subject to various loading conditions. There is a vast amount of literature on analytical and semi-analytical solutions for such discs obeying Tresca’s yield criterion and its associated flow rule. On the other hand, most of analytical and semi-analytical solutions for Mises yield criterion are based on the deformation theory of plasticity. A distinguished feature of the solutions given in the present volume is that the flow theory of plasticity and Mises yield criterion are adopted. The solutions are semi-analytical in the sense that numerical methods are only necessary to evaluate ordinary integrals and solve transcendental equations. The book shows that under certain conditions solutions based on the deformation and flow theories of plasticity coincide. All the solutions are illustrated with numerical examples. The goal of the book is to provide the reader with a vision and an insight into the problems of analysis and design of elastic/plastic discs. The limitations and the applicability of solutions are emphasized. The book is written for engineers, graduate students and researchers interested in the development of techniques for analysis and design of thin elastic/plastic discs.

Book Synopsis Advances in Mechanical Problems of Functionally Graded Materials and Structures by : Indra Vir Singh
Download or read book Advances in Mechanical Problems of Functionally Graded Materials and Structures written by Indra Vir Singh and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-10-28 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with novel aspects and perspectives in functionally graded materials (FGMs), which are advanced engineering materials designed for a specific performance or function with spatial gradation in structure and/or composition. The contributions mainly focus on numerical simulations of mechanical properties and the behavior of FGMs and FGM structures. Several advancements in numerical simulations that are particularly useful for investigations on FGMs have been proposed and demonstrated in this Special Issue. Such proposed approaches provide incisive methods to explore and predict the mechanical and structural characteristics of FGMs subjected to thermoelectromechanical loadings under various boundary and environmental conditions. The contributions have resulted in enhanced activity regarding the prediction of FGM properties and global structural responses, which are of great importance when considering the potential applications of FGM structures. Furthermore, the presented scientific scope is, in some way, an answer to the continuous demand for FGM structures, and opens new perspectives for their practical use.

Book Synopsis TEXTBOOK OF FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS by : P. SESHU
Download or read book TEXTBOOK OF FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS written by P. SESHU and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for a one-semester course in Finite Element Method, this compact and well-organized text presents FEM as a tool to find approximate solutions to differential equations. This provides the student a better perspective on the technique and its wide range of applications. This approach reflects the current trend as the present-day applications range from structures to biomechanics to electromagnetics, unlike in conventional texts that view FEM primarily as an extension of matrix methods of structural analysis. After an introduction and a review of mathematical preliminaries, the book gives a detailed discussion on FEM as a technique for solving differential equations and variational formulation of FEM. This is followed by a lucid presentation of one-dimensional and two-dimensional finite elements and finite element formulation for dynamics. The book concludes with some case studies that focus on industrial problems and Appendices that include mini-project topics based on near-real-life problems. Postgraduate/Senior undergraduate students of civil, mechanical and aeronautical engineering will find this text extremely useful; it will also appeal to the practising engineers and the teaching community.

Book Synopsis Steady State Stress Distribution and Force Transmissibility of a Rotating Disk of Variable Thickness by : John Ole Hansen
Download or read book Steady State Stress Distribution and Force Transmissibility of a Rotating Disk of Variable Thickness written by John Ole Hansen and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The governing equations of the transverse vibration of a spinning disk of varying thickness are derived and solved using numerical integration techniques. A clamped-free rotating annular disk driven at the outer edge with sinusoidally varying force is considered for analysis. Representative graphs showing the stress distribution and the frequency dependence of the force transmissibility of the disk are presented. Results obtained in this paper are compared as applicable to results of previous investigations."--Abstract.
