Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to give an account of the principal radiochemical methods used in chemical analysis. It is assumed that the reader already has some background knowledge of radioactivity, available from several general textbooks. For this reason some subjects, e. g. the fundamentals of radio activity, the properties of radiation, statistics of counting procedures, the precautions needed in working with radioactive materials, which could have occupied half the text, are not considered in detail. The different aspects of radiochemical analysis have been covered by specialized books and reviews, e. g. on activation analysis, gamma spectrometry, radiometric titrations. A good deal of information is in the form of reports of meetings and symposia and liquid scintillation counting, for instance, has been mainly covered in this way. There are also a large number of journals. It is therefore hoped that this book will help fill the gap between the introductory texts and the specialized sources, many of which are referred to in the chapter references. The ftrst three chapters in the present volume deal with the methods of measurement of radioactive nuclides. Chapter I gives a general account of detection and measurement techniques. The next two chapters are devoted to two specialized techniques: gamma-ray spectrometry and liquid scintilla tion counting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selection of the HPLC Method in Chemical Analysis serves as a practical guide to users of high-performance liquid chromatography and provides criteria for method selection, development, and validation. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the most common analytical technique currently practiced in chemistry. However, the process of finding the appropriate information for a particular analytical project requires significant effort and pre-existent knowledge in the field. Further, sorting through the wealth of published data and literature takes both time and effort away from the critical aspects of HPLC method selection. For the first time, a systematic approach for sorting through the available information and reviewing critically the up-to-date progress in HPLC for selecting a specific analysis is available in a single book. Selection of the HPLC Method in Chemical Analysis is an inclusive go-to reference for HPLC method selection, development, and validation. Addresses the various aspects of practice and instrumentation needed to obtain reliable HPLC analysis results Leads researchers to the best choice of an HPLC method from the overabundance of information existent in the field Provides criteria for HPLC method selection, development, and validation Authored by world-renowned HPLC experts who have more than 60 years of combined experience in the field

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Techniques in Analytical Chemistry discusses highly sensitive nuclear techniques that determine the micro- and macro-amounts or trace elements of materials. With the increasingly frequent demand for the chemical determination of trace amounts of elements in materials, the analytical chemist had to search for more sensitive methods of analysis. This book accustoms analytical chemists with nuclear techniques that possess the desired sensitivity and applicability at trace levels. The topics covered include safe handling of radioactivity; measurement of natural radioactivity; and neutron activation analysis. The positive ion and gamma ray activation analysis; isotope dilution and tracer investigations of analytical techniques; and geo- and cosmochronology and miscellaneous nuclear techniques are also elaborated in this text. This publication is intended for analytical chemists, but is also valuable to students intending to acquire knowledge on nuclear techniques and analytical methods in chemistry.

Book excerpt: A Mossbauer spectrometer which uses optical interferometry in the Doppler drive, and the mechanical design for the electromechanical drive described in last years report are presented. A description of chemical shift of iron compounds is given. The use of a correction factor for certain source detector geometries are described for Mossbauer spectroscopy. A new source of Sn(119m) in palladium which produces a very narrow line width is also described. For the first time a trace element has been certified in a Standard Reference Material with the assistance of the activation analysis technique. Flux measurements for the NRL reactor are given. A number of special analyses for various NBS projects by activation analysis are described (e.g. argon in silicon, chlorine in polystyrene, hafnium in zirconium). A beta-gamma sum coincidence gamma ray spectrometer is described. A constant potential electrochemical method of analysis using radioisotopic tracers is presented which has potential high sensitivity. A method of using radioisotopic tracers in heterogeneous equilibrium between an aqueous medium of cobalt to be analyzed and manganese dioxide impregnated filter paper is described. Some results on the precision of the substoichiometric radioisotope dilution analysis of silver and iron are presented.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Substoichiometry in Radiochemical Analysis considers application of simple chemistry than the use of complicated instrumentation in studying radiochemical analysis. This book is divided into nine chapters; the first chapter gives an introduction to the content of this monograph. This text then examines the neutron-activation and isotope-dilution analyses, complemented with the general technique and preliminary experiments. Specifically, this book provides the methods for the substoichiometric determination of traces of various elements by the neutron-activation and isotope-dilution analyses. Copper, mercury, gallium, gold, and zinc are some of the elements featured in this particular topic. This topic is followed by the discussion on the analysis of radioactive materials. This text also tackles the automation and comparison with other radiometric methods of substoichiometric analysis, as well as trends in substoichiometry. This book will be helpful for those concerned with substoichiometry, especially those who need a book that presents non-complicated study of the subject.
