Book Synopsis Crack Resistance Properties of High Strength Aluminum Alloys by : Carl M. Carman
Download or read book Crack Resistance Properties of High Strength Aluminum Alloys written by Carl M. Carman and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fracture toughness of both commercial and high purity aluminum alloys of the 7000 and 2000 series was determined by means of the center notched sheet specimen. The instability conditions described here give reproducible and well defined values of fracture toughness. For the very high strength aluminum alloys, the four inch wide specimen is sufficiently large to give accurate values of fracture toughness. Both the compliance and photographic method give the same value of fracture toughness, provided the proper experimental conditions are met. The testing conditions for the 2000 series of aluminum alloys do not conform to the normal requirements for simple fracture mechanics analysis, but the data may be analyzed within the framework of a refined instability model. The fracture toughness of the 2000 series of aluminum alloys is greater than the fracture toughness of the 7000 series. Reduction of iron and silicon contents results in an upgrading of the fracture toughness for both 7075-T6 and 2024-T4 aluminum alloys. Quantitative fractography gives some insight into the mechanisms which may be responsible for the upgrading of the fracture toughness. (Author).

Book Synopsis The Welding of Aluminium and Its Alloys by : G Mathers
Download or read book The Welding of Aluminium and Its Alloys written by G Mathers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-09-24 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Welding of Aluminium and its Alloys is a practical user's guide to all aspects of welding aluminium and aluminium alloys. It provides a basic understanding of the metallurgical principles involved showing how alloys achieve their strength and how the process of welding can affect these properties. The book is intended to provide engineers with perhaps little prior understanding of metallurgy and only a brief acquaintance with the welding processes involved with a concise and effective reference to the subject. It is intended as a practical guide for the Welding Engineer and covers weldability of aluminium alloys; process descriptions, advantages, limitations, proposed weld parameters, health and safety issues; preparation for welding, quality assurance and quality control issues along with problem solving. The book includes sections on parent metal storage and preparation prior to welding. It describes the more frequently encountered processes and has recommendations on welding parameters that may be used as a starting point for the development of a viable welding procedure. Included in these chapters are hints and tips to avoid some of the pitfalls of welding these sometimes-problematic materials. The content is both descriptive and qualitative. The author has avoided the use of mathematical expressions to describe the effects of welding. This book is essential reading for welding engineers, production engineers, production managers, designers and shop-floor supervisors involved in the aluminium fabrication industry. - A practical user's guide by a respected expert to all aspects of welding of aluminium - Designed to be easily understood by the non-metallurgist whilst covering the most necessary metallurgical aspects - Demonstrates best practice in fabricating aluminium structures
Book Synopsis Physical Metallurgy of Direct Chill Casting of Aluminum Alloys by : Dmitry G. Eskin
Download or read book Physical Metallurgy of Direct Chill Casting of Aluminum Alloys written by Dmitry G. Eskin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-04-17 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulling together information previously scattered throughout numerous research articles into one detailed resource, this book connects the fundamentals of structure formation during solidification with the practically observed structure and defect patterns in billets and ingots. The author examines the formation of a structure, properties, and defects in the as-cast material in tight correlation to the physical phenomena involved in the solidification and the process parameters. Compiling recent results and data, the book discusses the fundamentals of solidification together with metallurgical and technological aspects of DC casting. It gives new insight and perspective into DC casting research.

Book Synopsis Hot Cracking Phenomena in Welds III by : John Lippold
Download or read book Hot Cracking Phenomena in Welds III written by John Lippold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-03 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third in a series of compendiums devoted to the subject of weld hot cracking. It contains 22 papers presented at the 3rd International Hot Cracking Workshop in Columbus, Ohio USA in March 2010. In the context of this workshop, the term “hot cracking” refers to elevated temperature cracking associated with either the weld metal or heat-affected zone. These hot cracking phenomena include weld solidification cracking, HAZ and weld metal liquation cracking, and ductility-dip cracking. The book is divided into three major sections based on material type; specifically aluminum alloys, steels, and nickel-base alloys. Each of these sections begins with a keynote paper from prominent researchers in the field: Dr. Sindo Kou from the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Thomas Böllinghaus from BAM and the University of Magdeburg, and Dr. John DuPont from Lehigh University. The papers contained within include the latest insight into the mechanisms associated with hot cracking in these materials and methods to prevent cracking through material selection, process modification, or other means. The three Hot Cracking Phenomena in Welds compendiums combined contain a total of 64 papers and represent the best collection of papers on the topic of hot cracking ever assembled.
