Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many aspects regarding the subject matter of “the Torah” for today's broad Messianic movement to consider. These range from: the validity of the Torah or Law of Moses, the historicity and reliability of the Torah, the degree of applicability of the Torah to Jewish and non-Jewish people, the role of tradition in following the Torah, and changes affected to the role of the Torah in the post-resurrection era via the sacrifice of Yeshua (Jesus). Some of these aspects surrounding Messianics' study and appreciation of the Torah are handled quite well by the current generation, and some of them are frequently avoided or handled rather poorly. The Messianic Torah Helper is a valuable compilation of articles and analyses designed to assist you, your family, and your friends in approaching those important areas of the Torah which need to be considered. How have Jews and Christians approached the Law of Moses in their theology? What are some of the controversies surrounding the Pentateuch? Has the Law been abolished? Are Jewish and non-Jewish Believers in Israel's Messiah both supposed to keep the same basic Law? Does Jewish tradition play any kind of role in following Moses' Teaching? Are non-Jews who keep the Torah trying to replace the Jewish people? These questions, and many more, are some of those considered in the Messianic Torah Helper. If you have ever inquired about a wide range of Torah-related issues, then the Messianic Torah Helper is definitely something for you. This book is an excellent follow up to the extensive study The New Testament Validates Torah by J.K. McKee.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Messianic Torah with Commentary...Plus! (MTC+), is a Chumash with each parasha marked, and a hyperlink to the Haftorah which is located in the end notes. The Plus is the addition of the book of Matthew. The MTC+ includes links to passages in the NT and TaNaK, and was compiled with the follower of Yeshua in mind. All Hebrew words used in the notes have definitions and transliterations. The MTC+ is not made to be a reference but more of an "everyday reader". In the MTC+ we have tried to explore the Jewish culture and world in which the words were written to help the student understand and apply them to modern life. The text of the MTC+ is taken from a modified public domain American Standard version. The new edition of the MTC+ includes several new features. The first and most obvious is the addition of the book of Matthew from the 1st century CE Jewish book, the New Testament (NT) also known as the Apostolic Scriptures. Matthew is added after the book of Deuteronomy. The comments in Matthew are a little more devotional in nature than those in the Torah but stay with the Messianic/Hebrew cultural view that is being emphasized in this work.To access the haftorah go to the blue link that gives the scripture reference for that parashah's haftorah. Then click on the number to the right of the reference. This will take you to the end notes where the haftorah is given in blue. To return to the text simply click the number again from the end notes and it will take you back to the text of that parashah. The Haftorah sections in the MTC+ reflect several different Jewish traditions. When we were looking for Haftorot to place in the text we did not use all Azkenazi or Sefardi. Most of the time we used one of those two prominent groups, but we also looked at the Yemeni and Romani traditions. The Yemeni is the oldest Jewish community, and the Romani reflect the eastern Jewish traditions for which our early Fathers in the faith were probably associated. We tended to go with the Haftorah reading that we felt spoke to Messianics the best. The next new feature has to do with the notes themselves. As in the old edition, to see the notes the reader can simply scroll to the end of each page and read what is written, then back up to the text. The new option is that if you click on the number for the note it will take you to an endnote copy of the note. The endnote copy will show all the notes for the whole MTC+ without the Biblical texts. This allows the student to skip to the commentary alone if so desired. That way a search can be done to look for things such as Hebrew words and other points of interest. When a comment looks interesting click that number and it will take you to the text that the comment references. Click the number a second time and you are back in the comments to continue your search. The third new feature involves 100s of hyperlinks within the text. In places such as Lev. 23 where the Feasts and Festivals are listed there are blue links to other places in the Torah where the same Festivals are discussed. Click on the link and it will take you to the other reference. Click again and you are back where you started. Finally, we have corrected as many of the spelling, typing, and grammatical errors as we could in this edition of the MTC+. We have also added some new comments and re-written comments that we thought were unclear. Hebrew fonts have been typed in a bold font to make them more obvious.IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL version of the MTC and would like to get the updated MTC+ you can do so for FREE. The way that you can get the new version for free is to make a phone call. This will take a minute or two but has the benefit of being free. Call 1-866-216-1072 and have the ASIN B00OYENR9Y of the MTC ready. (The second and third digits are the number 0. The fourth digit is the capital letter O.) We are told the digital team at Kindle will update everything for free.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instruction to remember the Sabbath is the Fourth of the Ten Commandments: "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work" (Exodus 20:8-10a). The seventh-day Sabbath or Shabbat is widely associated with God's creation of the world (Genesis 2:2-3) and the Exodus of Ancient Israel from Egypt (Deuteronomy 15:15). The Sabbath is one of the Torah's moedim or appointed times (Leviticus 23:3). Desecration of the Sabbath actually brought judgment to Ancient Israel (Jeremiah 17:19-27), but blessings are offered to those who value and honor Shabbat (Isaiah 56:1-8), with a universal observance for the entire world anticipated in the Messianic Age (Isaiah 66:23). Today's Messianic movement is different from evangelical Christianity, in that while it affirms the Messiahship of Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth, it continues to observe the seventh-day Sabbath along with Judaism, in fidelity to the Torah or Law of Moses, and in conjunction with the example of the First Century Believers. Certainly, holding services on the seventh-day (commonly called Saturday), can be viewed as appropriate for a faith community identifying with the Jewish Synagogue, but it also raises many questions. Inquiries abound pertaining to the ongoing validity of the Sabbath in the post-resurrection era. Was not the Sabbath transferred to Sunday, in honor of the Messiah's being raised from the dead? Was the Sabbath actually abolished by the Messiah? Inquiries abound pertaining to the observance of the Sabbath. Should not the Sabbath be kept according to the Scriptures only? Should not mainstream Jewish tradition and custom play some role in honoring the Sabbath? What does it mean to not "work" on Shabbat? The Messianic Sabbath Helper includes a wide breadth of material, addressing a wide array of topics associated with Shabbat. This publication has been divided up into two main parts: The Significance of Shabbat and A Theology of Shabbat. You will be able to detect a progression of sorts, in our family's own approach to the subject matter, as some things are addressed first more generally and then more specifically. In our experience, we ourselves have certainly had to move from a more elementary view of the issue of the seventh-day Sabbath, to a more developed view, and we recognize how the Messianic community needs to do the same. This is a massive collection of material, well needed for every Messianic home and congregational library!

Book excerpt: When the subject of kosher, kashrut, or the dietary instructions of the Torah or the Law of Moses come up in various contemporary Messianic settings, there can be a tendency for some strong emotions to arise. The broad Messianic spectrum represents a diversity of views on "kosher"-ranging from the dietary laws being abolished and only to be observed as a part of Jewish culture, to people advocating a strict adherence to many Orthodox Jewish rulings and practices, to a kosher style diet where people mainly avoid pork and shellfish. At times, there has been an over-amount of attention given to the minutiae of keeping kosher, and not enough time given to some of the significant Biblical passages which either inform us about kosher or have been traditionally interpreted to say that kosher has been abolished for the post-resurrection era. And more than anything else, maintaining an appropriate, Messiah-centric attitude toward all of this, is most imperative. There have been far too many extremes represented regarding the issue of the dietary laws, at times, and not enough reasoned discussion. Too many people have issued accusations against others, and not enough have tried to inquire of both the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, what is perhaps important about this issue. Human beings have to all eat, after all! The Messianic Kosher Helper includes a wide breadth of material, addressing a diverse array of topics associated with the Torah's dietary laws. This publication has been divided up into two main parts: The Significance of Kosher and A Theology of Eating and Kosher. You will be able to detect a progression of sorts, in our family's own approach to the subject matter, as some things are addressed first more generally and then more specifically. In our experience, we ourselves have certainly had to move from a more elementary view of the issue of kosher, to a more developed view, and we recognize how the Messianic community needs to do the same. It is important to remember how Leviticus 11:44 says, "For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy" (cf. 1 Peter 1:16)-a concept which is directly connected to clean and unclean meats. But, if following this is not enjoined with a better appreciation and understanding of a steadfast mandate for all of us to have clean minds and hearts, imbued with the presence of God's Holy Spirit, demonstrating the love of Yeshua to all-then outward holiness will not have been joined with the more critical inward holiness. If, however, we learn how to separate external things which are clean and unclean-then perhaps we can also learn, with God's help, how to separate clean and unclean thoughts, ideas, and attitudes, being mature men and women in Him, and empowered on many different levels for service to His Kingdom!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where does a relatively young movement turn for identity and direction when it straddles the fence between two competing major religions? Messianic Jews have done something that for centuries was considered untenable. Like Christians, they have embraced Jesus as the divine Messiah, but they have refused to surrender their place within the Jewish people. How compatible are these two sides of Messianic Jewish faith? Can Messianic Jews participate as full members in both the body of Messiah and the people of Israel? Can they be led by the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised while also following the rulings of the Jewish sages? Did Jesus affirm rabbinic authority, or does that authority now lie elsewhere within the new covenant? In this volume, Messianic Jewish rabbi Joshua Lessard and Messianic Jewish scholar Jennifer Rosner debate the path forward for Messianic Judaism as it grapples with being the child of divorced parents--the church and Israel. Both Lessard and Rosner are committed to the success of Messianic Judaism, though they put forth contrasting visions of what that means. The discussion herein is unique and provocative, not only for Messianic Jews, but for all who have wrestled at the crossroads of Torah, tradition, and Spirit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Spring holiday season is a very busy time for those in today s Messianic movement, beginning with Purim, continuing to the week of Passover and Unleavened Bread, and then culminating with Shavuot or Pentecost. This broad season is one of the most demanding for Messianic Believers, not only as it concerns the many things to celebrate and reflect upon, but also as we strive to exhibit a positive testimony to both the Jewish and Christian communities: to Jewish people remembering the Passover and deliverance of Ancient Israel from Egypt, and to Christians memorializing the death and resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ). The Messianic Spring Holiday Helper is a valuable compilation of resources designed to assist you, your family, and your Messianic fellowship for this season. We have included a wide selection of articles discussing the different salvation historical themes from the Spring season. The significance of Purim is addressed. The role that the Passover and the Exodus play, and how they relate to our redemption in the Messiah, is described. We go into great detail discussing the Last Supper, and the death and resurrection of the Messiah. We consider what it means to observe Shavuot as a time for both the giving of the Torah (Law) and the Holy Spirit. We offer a fair-minded and loving way to communicate to those who observe an Easter holiday often separated from anything in the Tanach or Old Testament. A selection of FAQs on the Spring holidays has been provided, as are some delicious recipes, and an educational Passover haggadah you can use for your home or congregation. Let the Messianic Spring Holiday Helper be a resource of great blessing to you during this sacred season!

Book excerpt: The Fall holiday season of Yom Teruah/Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot also including Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah is a very special, sacred time of year for God s people. It is considered to be the most holy time of year in Judaism. As such, this season can teach us all important things about the great value of corporate repentance of sin, and an annual inspection of our individual spiritual maturity. We can learn lessons about the Lord's ongoing plan of salvation history, especially the Second Coming of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) and the future establishment of His Millennial Kingdom! The Messianic Fall Holiday Helper is a valuable compilation of resources designed to assist you, your family, and your Messianic fellowship for this season. We have included a selection of articles summarizing the role of mainline Jewish tradition, and reflective articles that focus on day-to-day observances of the Ten Days of Awe and the eight days of Tabernacles. Messages from customary books of the Tanach (Old Testament) like Deuteronomy and Ecclesiastes, which are often studied and discussed during the Fall high holidays, have been offered. A few FAQs on the Fall high holidays have also been provided. Finally, some traditional liturgy is available..If you have ever wondered what role the Fall high holidays should play in the life of a Believer, then the Messianic Fall Holiday Helper is definitely something for you. You will be blessed by what you can learn during these convocations!
