Download or read book Civil Economy written by Luigino Bruni and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume has a double purpose. First of all, it follows an Italian tradition of thought that began in the 15th and 16th centuries as Civic Humanism and continued up until the golden period of Italian Enlightenment as represented by the Schools of Milan and Naples. Its main contribution to the history of economic thought is its conception of the market as a place centered on the principle of reciprocity and civil virtues. This book explains why the civil approach to economics disappeared from cultural debates, scientific enquiries and the public arena at the end of the 18th century, only to surface again in more recent times. Secondly, the book draws attention to a new reading of the whole of economic reality. Indeed, the civil economy in one sense is mainly a cultural perspective from which it is possible to interpret the entire economic discourse. If a theory is considered as substantially a point of view on reality, then this cultural perspective can also set the basis for a diverse economic theory. Where does the key element of such diversity lie? It lies in the attempt to integrate within the economic system the three basic principles of any social order: the principle of exchange of equivalents, the principle of redistribution and the principle of reciprocity. Though this book draws on the history of economic ideas, it focuses on the present day from an ancient perspective in order to find convincing answers to the new questions arising in the era of globalization.
Book Synopsis Labour Law and Industrial Relations in Recessionary Times by : Anthony Forsyth
Download or read book Labour Law and Industrial Relations in Recessionary Times written by Anthony Forsyth and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes a number of papers written in English and published in the last fifteen years in which the Italian labour market faced many changes. The book not only provides the international readership with a frame of reference – in both conceptual and legal terms – that helps to appreciate the Italian Labour Law currently in force, but also represents a contribution to moving beyond the self-referential nature of the Italian debate on the reform of labour laws. As such, the book supplies the reform process of the Italian labour market with an international and comparative dimension which – in accordance with the programmatic approach of Marco Biagi – will also feed the debate at the national level.

Book Synopsis Non-Standard Employment and Quality of Work by : Tindara Addabbo
Download or read book Non-Standard Employment and Quality of Work written by Tindara Addabbo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-12 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international literature on non-standard employment has mostly focussed on its impact on employment, and more recently on working and living conditions. This volume explores these issues with special reference to Italy. Italy is characterized by very low participation rates (particularly women’s), a high degree of fragmentation of labour contracts and a very intense non-standard work diffusion that make this context a particularly interesting case for analysis. New elements of discussion are provided with reference to the interaction of non-standard work, employment probability and living conditions. Interesting insights on the impact of non-standard work on the transition to stable employment and workers’ careers emerge, suggesting a possible failure of companies’ internal systems of work evaluation. The effects on labour productivity and on companies’ performance are analysed. Within this framework, a new perspective on quality of work is suggested.

Book Synopsis Mapping Leisure across Borders by : Gianna Cappello
Download or read book Mapping Leisure across Borders written by Gianna Cappello and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-04-23 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In current academic debates, leisure is increasingly defined as a discursive construction originating both from the specific meanings created by individuals, and the institutionalizing processes that legitimate certain experiences and their spatial-temporal conditions as “leisure”. As a result of social construction and the different social conditions existing at a certain historical moment in different societies, the borders among the various aspects of leisure are becoming more and more blurred; as is the case, for instance, with the borders between leisure and work activities. Such border-crossing is the leitmotif of this book. Although focusing on sociological research, it has in fact a multidisciplinary scope and will appeal to a variety of scholars and students interested in the study of leisure in contemporary society as a fundamental dimension of everyday sociality and sociability with very important effects on social cohesion as a whole. After an introductory section, offering general frames on key definitions of leisure and leisure issues, five other sections follow which concentrate on more specific aspects of leisure practices and forms in contemporary society.
