Though there are many excellent books written for the medical profession - from many of which indeed I have freely quoted in these pages - I do not know of any which have been specially written for the layman. The Central Association for the Care of the Mentally Defective recently inaugurated a highly successful Special Summer Course of training on this subject for School Teachers at Birmingham and, as part of this course, I was invited to give a series of short lectures on the medical aspect of the subject.
