Joan Chodorow here offers a collection of Jung's writings on active imagination, gathered together for the first time. Jung developed this concept between the years 1913 and 1916, following his break with Freud. During this time, he was disoriented and experienced intense inner turmoil --he suffered from lethargy and fears, and his moods threatened to overwhelm him. Jung searched for a method to heal himself from within, and finally decided to engage with the impulses and images of his unconscious. It was through the rediscovery of the symbolic play of his childhood that Jung was able to reconnect with his creative spirit. In a 1925 seminar and again in his memoirs, he tells the remarkable story of his experiments during this time that led to his self-healing. Jung learned to develop an ongoing relationship with his lively creative spirit through the power of imagination and fantasies. He termed this therapeutic method "active imagination." This method is based on the natural healing function of the imagination, and its many expressions. Chodorow clearly presents the texts, and sets them in the proper context. She also interweaves her discussion of Jung's writings and ideas with contributions from Jungian authors and artists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all have a past. We've all made mistakes and done things we wish we hadn't done. We all wish we could just push a "delete" button on some of the choices we made yesterday and some of the things we've experienced years ago. What's more, our past has a way of shaping who we are today. It's amazing how one single dramatic experience of rejection in childhood can last through adulthood and forever alter our self-image or how one bad decision in college can overshadow the dreams of the future, even God-given dreams. Terri Savelle Foy knows that past hurts (whether brought on by someone else or our choice to sin) can undermine us. Raised a church kid, she knew all about sin but made the mistakes anyway. She learned firsthand that it's not until we truly get a revelation of who we are in Christ, and apply it to our lives, that our past can be erased and our dreams become real again. Terri shows how we can let go of our past, change our self-image and confidently move into a future with hope.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A rich and entertaining history of the French capital’s predominant myths and ‘image-making’ from the nineteenth century to the present.” —Roxanne Panchasi, H-France Review How did Paris become the world favorite it is today? Charles Rearick argues that we can best understand Paris as several cities in one, each with its own history and its own imaginary shaped by dream and memory. Paris has long been at once a cosmopolitan City of Light and of modernity, a patchwork of time-resistant villages, a treasured heirloom, a hell for the disinherited, and a legendary pleasure dome. Focusing on the last century and a half, Paris Dreams, Paris Memories makes contemporary Paris understandable. It tells of renewal projects radically transforming neighborhoods and of counter-measures taken to perpetuate the city’s historic character and soul. It provides a historically grounded look at the troubled suburbs. Further, it tests long-standing characterizations of Paris’s uniqueness through comparisons with such rivals as London and Berlin. Paris Dreams, Paris Memories shows that in myriad forms—buildings, monuments, festivities, and artistic portrayals—contemporary Paris gives new life to visions of the city long etched in Parisian imaginations. “A pleasure to read.” —Catherine Clark, H-Urban “Fascinating.” —Nicoleta Bazgan, Contemporary French Civilization “Rearick is an expert guide.” —Jeffrey H. Jackson, Rhodes College “Like a pleasant stroll through the city, one finds much that one has already seen, but also plenty that one has not.” —Stephen Sawyer, French History “Rearick has written not so much a history of Paris, but a history of the history of Paris.” —William Irvine, York University

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry of intensely reflective and emotional value tenders perpetual reminders to readers about the essence of life and the miracles of love… Memories, Thoughts, and Dreams bleeds with genuine emotion and delicate feelings that only a tattered heart can muster-a heart serrated by diverse experiences. Bala presents a gem of thought that promises to evoke realization about that one thing that somehow keeps people aware of their innermost feelings and reasons for living, that is, to love and be loved in return-a miracle that many do not experience. He dispenses, in every piece, his sincere impression about this miraculous gift of life with hopes of inspiring you to unleash the emotions deep within your own heart . . . a heart that may be protecting a guarded sensitivity. This book will remind you that there is but one final reason for living life to the fullest… In this collection, Bala has scribed his simple, honest, genuine and truest feelings of romantic love unobstructed by the passing pretensions of life. Each poem is profound, yet relatable easily in our complex world of today-giving one the chance to reflect on life’s greatest purpose, regardless of what ultimate sorrow may come. Bala's verse reveals a full spectrum of a poet's innermost feelings, accompanied with splendid imagery, and expressions of great beauty. Anyone who has experienced the miracle of life, love, and loss will find their feelings expressed simply, yet eloquently in Bala's moving, empathetic, and melancholic verse. Bala's experience is often raw on the page, as he writes in a most genuine and reflective style. Such pared-to-the-core honesty pulls the reader quickly into experiences that are universally shared. Memories, Thoughts, and Dreams encourages us to remember, to recall a time when we were head-over-heels in new love. It also reminds us of the poignancy that sleeps in our memories of a love lost.

Book excerpt: Once again Peter Kenny, known worldwide as a passionate fan of J.R.R. Tolkien and the world of fantasy, has given us a treasury of poems, Memories of Another Land. Mr. Kenny has revisited the world of his first collection of poems, Dreams of Another Land, to continue to explore the bygone years and half-remembered histories of this other land, both familiar and strange to our own eyes and memories. Brave warriors, travelling wizards, voyagers making their long ways across land and sea, and lovers both together and apart are described with language that in places is delicately pastel and in other places vividly coloured. Some poems describe dark beings and darkness falling across the land, but against this gloom stands the presence--in some poems prominently, in others as a small brave figure--of hope, for better days, peaceful times, and love reunited. Mr. Kenny's previous illustrator, Sue Bradley, has again provided lovely watercolour illustrations to pair with the poems. Notable poems include "The Clans Will Gather," with its echoes of Celtic traditions, and "His Golden Ring," with just the right touch of eeriness along with vivid imagery. The Title Poem "Memories of Another Land" is a lovely poem which reminds us that not all we "know" is true, and that it's what people have inside them that produces evil--or by extension good. Big folk and small, young folk and old, will all find something to enjoy in Memories of Another Land. Sherry Larson-Rhodes. First Year Experience Librarian at SUNY Geneseo, & freelance editor.

Since ancient Egypt and Greece, people have relied on the art of dreaming to diagnose illness and get answers to personal life challenges. Now, dreams are making a grand reappearance in the medical arena as recent scientific research and medical pathology reports validate the diagnostic abilities of precognitive dreams. Are we stepping back into the future as modern medical tests show dreams can be early warning signs of cancer and other diseases? Showcasing the important role of dreams and their power to detect and heal illness, Dr. Larry Burk and Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos share amazing research and true stories of physical and emotional healings triggered by dreams. The authors explore medical studies and ongoing research on the diagnostic power of precognitive dreams, including Dr. Burk’s own research on dreams that come true and can be medically validated. They share detailed stories--all confirmed by pathology reports--from subjects in medical research projects whose dreams diagnosed illness and helped heal their lives, including Kathleen’s own story as a three-time breast cancer survivor whose dreams diagnosed her cancer even when it was missed by her doctors. Alongside these stories of survival and faith, the authors also include an introduction to dream journaling and interpretation, allowing the reader to develop trust in their dreams as a spiritual source of healing and inner guidance.

Book excerpt: When a painful change enters your life without warning, it throws your entire world into chaos. You're going through life thinking you've got it all figured out, but then something happens that knocks you off course. All of a sudden, you're heading in a direction that you don't want to be going. You reach a critical point in your life where you can continue down this path of suffering and misery and still not change the events of the past, or choose to accept what has happened, stop the pain and make the decision to save yourself. When contemplating this myself, I had a sudden realisation. If I continued down the path of suffering, I would be guaranteed a life of misery. But if I decided to change something, I would at least have a chance of making a better life for myself. It was a hugely liberating feeling because I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. I decided to make a change. I had no idea how so I wrote a list of 100 things I wanted to do in a year. My thinking was that if I could achieve half of what was on my list, I'd be in a much different place by the end of the year. And I was right; I had the best year of my life. I completed my first triathlon, went scuba diving for the first time, started a business, and read over 50 self-development books to name a few things. I went to some fantastic places, and I made some great memories but more than all of that I learnt a lot of valuable life lessons along the way. This book includes all those lessons that have helped me turn my life around. We are all in pursuit of something. Some call it success, others happiness or fulfilment. Whatever you are looking for from life is unique to you, and your actions are ultimately an attempt to find this feeling and make it last. Whatever this feeling means to you, the core theme of this book is helping you get there. The book offers a mix of philosophy, science, mindset hacks and practical tools for daily use. Each lesson starts with a quote followed by my attempt to tell a story, provide context, ask a question, or put forward an exercise so you may find a deeper understanding of whatever it is you are looking for. I hope that by the end of the book, you have learnt how to take complete control over your path in life and how to become a stronger, happier, and more confident person in every area of your life that is important to you. The lessons have helped me turn my life around, and I know it can do the same for you.

The lyrical narrative of Hockey Dreams flows from Richards' boyhood games on the Miramichi to heated debates with university professors who dare to back the wrong team. It examines the globalization of hockey, and how Canadians react to the threat of foreigners beating us at our game. Part memoir, part essay on national identity, part hockey history, Hockey Dreams is a meditation by one of Canada's finest writers on the essence of the game that helps define our nation.

Drephoria, the name of the stunning dream world created from their collective minds, will test the limits of their friendship, break the balance between good and evil and prove the true value of memories and the imagination. The first book in the trilogy, "The Curse of Memories," focuses on the central character Kail and his dark past, told through memories, while simultaneously introducing the rest of his friends (known as The Inseparable Six) and the other strange and deadly inhabitants of Drephoria.
