Book excerpt: Excerpt from Memorials of Old Birmingham: Traditions of the Old Crown House, in Der-Yat-End, in the Lordship of Birmingham, With Some Notice of English Gilds Three times within the last ten years, I have been asked, under different circumstances, to furnish materials for publi cation as to The Old Crown House. On 7th October, 1862, the Committee of the Birmingham and Midland Counties Archaeological Association, made an official application to me, to furnish the necessary letter-press for a'work intended to be put forth by that Association, devoted, in its first Number, to this House. I took steps to comply with a request which. Thus reiterated, and from so respect-worthy a Body, could not, with propriety, be declined. After some time, however, I learned, with regret, that the wish of the Association was, only to have information respecting the original proprietor, and the descent and changes of the House. I had considered, as I still do, that the interest, to the Town and neighbourhood, of the oldest House in Bir mingham, lies in the links that it hangs together, and the associations that cluster round it, illustrative of the History of the Town.
