Auch viele deutschsprachige Muttersprachler können sich ebenfalls als bilingual bezeichnen, denn es braucht nicht einmal die Fähigkeit, zwei unabhängige Sprachen zu sprechen. Wenn der Sprecher zusätzlich einen Dialekt beherrscht, gilt er schon als bilingual. Ich persönlich bin ebenfalls bilingual erzogen worden, da ich erst mit dem fünften Lebensjahr nach Deutschland gezogen bin und hatte im Kindergarten meinen ersten Kontakt zur deutschen Sprache. In der heutigen Gesellschaft wachsen immer mehr Kinder in einer mehrsprachigen Umgebung auf und erwerben zwei Sprachen von Geburt an oder bald danach. Dafür muss man heute nicht mehr in ein anderes Land ziehen. Es gibt immer mehr staatliche Einrichtungen wie zweisprachige Kindertagesstätten und bilinguale Schulen, die die Mehrsprachigkeit fördern. Auch Mehrsprachige Tagesmütter werden immer beliebter. Dies kann als Vorteil angesehen werden und als Chance für die Kinder, mehr als eine Muttersprache zu erwerben. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es auch heute noch Bedenken, Kinder zwei oder mehr Sprachen ab der Geburt auszusetzen, da sie sie sprachlich, kognitiv und emotional verwirren könnten. Eltern befürchten, dass die Sprachentwicklung ihrer Kinder verzögert werden könnte und dass die Kinder nicht in der Lage sind, ihre beiden Sprachen auseinander zu halten. Die zunehmende sprachliche und psycholinguistische Forschung über die Mehrsprachigkeit in den letzten 20 Jahren hat dazu beigetragen, einige Bedenken zu beseitigen und den Fall der zweisprachigen Kinder zu unterstützen. Um einen Hintergrund für die Diskussion zu schaffen, werde ich den Begriff „Bilingualismus“ bzw. die Mehrsprachigkeit versuchen zu definieren und die unterschiedlichen Formen zu beschreiben. Weiter werde ich auf die simultane - und die sukzessive Mehrsprachigkeit näher eingehen um im Anschluss den Spracherwerb bei Kindern und Erwachsenen zu unterscheiden. Zum Schluss beleuchte ich die Vor- und Nachteile der bilingualen Früherziehung.

Wobei es schon viele Untersuchungen gibt, wie die Mehrsprachigkeit die Kinder beeinflusst, wollte ich wissen wie die mehrsprachige Erziehung die Eltern erlebt haben. Was für einen Einfluss hatte das auf sie? Wie hat die mehrsprachige Erziehung ihre Beziehung mit dem Partner beziehungsweise der Partnerin beeinflusst? Was war für sie schwierig und was würden sie anders machen? Was bereuen sie? Das sind nur einige der Fragen, mit denen ich mich in meiner Magisterarbeit befasst habe. Das Ziel meiner Forschung war herauszufinden, was die häufigsten Schwierigkeiten oder Zweifel sind, auf die die Eltern, die ihre Kinder mehrsprachig erziehen, stoßen. In dem praktischen Teil habe ich 5 zweisprachigen und mehrsprachigen Familien unter die Lupe genommen. Diese qualitative Studie wurde mit fünf Müttern gemacht, mit denen ich Interviews durchgeführt und ihre Erfahrungen gesammelt habe. Die Ergebnisse habe ich analysiert und mit dem theoretischen Teil verglichen.

Diese Arbeit möchte genau diese Vorbehalte kritisch beleuchten und konzentriert sich darauf mögliche Chancen oder Hindernisse von multilingualer Erziehung in der frühen Kindheit zu diskutieren. Als Grundlage für eine der erarbeiteten Thesen, ist eine eigenhändig durchgeführte Umfrage ebenfalls ein Teil des Kapitels. Die Arbeit schließt mit einem Fazit, persönlichen Erfahrungen mit mehrsprachiger Erziehung und einem kurzen Ausblick auf die zusammengetragenen Vorurteile und deren Wirklichkeit ab.
