Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our lives will be pulled from the ashes many times, and those times will bring good purposes in our lives. Individualism and independence are at the heart of being American. There will always be many ambition- driven challenges, many events you will not foresee. You will handle some well and some badly. For there is no adequate preparation for all of life’s situations and relationships. There is no such thing as perfection when it comes to relationships that exist between people, especially the relationships between a man and woman. It is possible to have a good relationship with persons in your life, once you first have that relationship with yourself. But with the Creator’s help, you will prevail, you will not fail. We must open doors wide to let others in to learn and to mature. Our Creator will fix our hearts to become involved in reaching and bringing a lost world to Him.

Download or read book Standing in the Fire written by Larry Dressler and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many experienced facilitators, OD consultants, coaches, and organizational leaders increasingly find themselves standing in the fire - working in situations where group and community members are polarized, angry, fearful, and confused. Facilitator Larry Dressler has come to believe that simply picking up yet another method or technique wont help in situations like these. What has a truly transformational impact is what he calls the "facilitators presence". Cultivating an ability to access a compassionate presence that people experience as open, authentic, and clear in intention during the most difficult situations moves facilitators from being competent professionals to being on a path toward self-mastery.

Book Synopsis The Fire of the Word by : Chris Webb
Download or read book The Fire of the Word written by Chris Webb and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2011-11-02 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible has the astounding power to transform lives. The stories of people like Francis of Assisi, Antony of Egypt, Augustine of Hippo, Martin Luther and Martin Luther King Jr. vividly demonstrate this. Why aren't more of us transformed by Scripture today? Too often we study biblical texts without believing that God truly inhabits this book. Scripture seeks to capture our minds, not merely educate them. In these pages Chris Webb explains that we can transform our Christian life by reading as lovers rather than as theorists. This is possible by coming to the text prayerfully, expectantly, in humility and empty-handed. When we open the Bible, it does not say to us, "Listen: God is there!" Instead, the voice of the Spirit whispers through each line, "Look: I am here." Reading the Bible this way can reconfigure the habits of your heart, refresh your imagination and memory, reshape and redeem your emotions, realign your reality individually and communally for kingdom life, and take us beyond the Bible into a renewed way of life. Here is the work of today—which is also the work of the whole of life—to open your heart afresh to the living Word of God.
Book Synopsis Alice and Bob Meet the Wall of Fire by : Thomas Lin
Download or read book Alice and Bob Meet the Wall of Fire written by Thomas Lin and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accessible, essential coverage of the latest findings in challenging, speculative, and cutting-edge science, from the Pulitzer Prize–winning leaders in scientific journalism at Quanta Magazine “If you're a science and data nerd like me, you may be interested in Alice and Bob Meet the Wall of Fire . . . from Quanta Magazine and Thomas Lin.” —Bill Gates These stories reveal the latest efforts to untangle the mysteries of the universe. Bringing together the best and most interesting science stories appearing in Quanta Magazine over the past five years, Alice and Bob Meet the Wall of Fire reports on some of the greatest scientific minds as they test the limits of human knowledge. Quanta, under editor-in-chief Thomas Lin, is the only popular publication that offers in-depth coverage of today's challenging, speculative, cutting-edge science. It communicates science by taking it seriously, wrestling with difficult concepts and clearly explaining them in a way that speaks to our innate curiosity about our world and ourselves. In the title story, Alice and Bob—beloved characters of various thought experiments in physics—grapple with gravitational forces, possible spaghettification, and a massive wall of fire as Alice jumps into a black hole. Another story considers whether the universe is impossible, in light of experimental results at the Large Hadron Collider. We learn about quantum reality and the mystery of quantum entanglement; explore the source of time's arrow; and witness a eureka moment when a quantum physicist exclaims: “Finally, we can understand why a cup of coffee equilibrates in a room.” We reflect on humans’ enormous skulls and the Brain Boom; consider the evolutionary benefits of loneliness; peel back the layers of the newest artificial-intelligence algorithms; follow the “battle for the heart and soul of physics”; and mourn the disappearance of the “diphoton bump,” revealed to be a statistical fluctuation rather than a revolutionary new particle. Winner of the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting, Quanta once again gives us a front-row seat to scientific discovery. Contributors Philip Ball, K. C. Book Synopsis Remarks of Nathaniel Paine, at a Meeting of the Worcester Fire Society by : Nathaniel Paine
Download or read book Remarks of Nathaniel Paine, at a Meeting of the Worcester Fire Society written by Nathaniel Paine and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Remarks of Nathaniel Paine, at a Meeting of the Worcester Fire Society: January 2, 1899 The facilities for extinguishing fires in the early days of this country, before the introduction of fire-engines, were of the crudest kind, - buckets and pails, and sometimes ladders for reaching the second stories of houses and stores, were about the extent of the apparatus; although in some of the towns a long pole with a large swab at the end was also used. This was to be dipped into water and applied where it would seem to do the most good. In other places the law required householders to have barrels filled with water near their houses; and in case of an alarm of fire they were expected to fill their buckets before starting, so that on their arrival at the building in danger they would be prepared to render immediate assistance. Carpenters too were required to take their axes in case of an alarm of fire. There was a provision that if buckets or axes were lost at the fire the town was to make the loss good to the owners. It was customary to have the buckets marked with the owner's name or initials, and sometimes they were decorated with a coat of arms or other ornamentation. It is not unlikely that there may now be in the possession of members of this society buckets that had been in use in the town long before our society was organized.
