Book Synopsis Apocalypse and/or Metamorphosis by : Norman O. Brown
Download or read book Apocalypse and/or Metamorphosis written by Norman O. Brown and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is the final volume of Norman O. Brown's trilogy on civilization and its discontents, on humanity's long struggle to master its instincts and the perils that attend that denial of human nature. Following on his famous books Life Against Death and Love's Body, this collection of eleven essays brings Brown's thinking up to 1990 and the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe. Brown writes that "the prophetic tradition is an attempt to give direction to the social structure precipitated by the urban revolution; to resolve its inherent contradictions; to put an end to its injustice, inequality, anomie, the state of war . . . that has been its history from start to finish." Affiliating himself with prophets from Muhammad to Blake and Emerson, Brown offers further meditations on what's wrong with Western civilization and what we might do about it. Thus the duality in his title: crisis and the hope for change. In pieces both poetic and philosophical, Brown's attention ranges over Greek mythology, Islam, Spinoza, and Finnegan's Wake. The collection includes an autobiographical essay musing on Brown's own intellectual development. The final piece, "Dionysus in 1990," draws on Freud and the work of Georges Bataille to link the recent changes in the world's economies with mankind's primordial drive to accumulation, waste, and death.
Download or read book Metamorphosis written by Franz Kafka and published by Diamond Pocket Books Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Kafka, the author has very nicely narrated the story of Gregou Samsa who wakes up one day to discover that he has metamorphosed into a bug. The book concerns itself with the themes of alienation and existentialism. The author has written many important stories, including The Judgement, and much of his novels Amerika, The Castle, The Hunger Artist. Many of his stories were published during his lifetime but many were not. Over the course of the 1920s and 30s Kafkas works were published and translated instantly becoming landmarks of twentieth-century literature. Ironically, the story ends on an optimistic note, as the family puts itself back together. The style of the book epitomizes Kafkas writing. Kafka very interestingly, used to present an impossible situation, such as a mans transformation into an insect, and develop the story from there with perfect realism and intense attention to detail. The Metamorphosis is an autobiographical piece of writing, and we find that parts of the story reflect Kafkas own life.

Book Synopsis The Transfiguration of Christ and Creation by : John Gatta
Download or read book The Transfiguration of Christ and Creation written by John Gatta and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biblical story of Jesus' Transfiguration "on a high mountain" bristles with meanings germane to present-day concerns and spiritual longings. Together with its later artistic representations, this episode from the synoptic gospels seizes the imagination as an icon of mystical hope, beauty, and possibility. What might such an iconic episode, long honored liturgically in the Eastern church, disclose not only about Jesus, but also about the prospect of seeing our human nature transformed? And as interpreted by Christian tradition since the patristic era, what might it tell us about the worth of envisioning not just a conservation or preservation of natural resources but a transfiguration of all creation, and about how this "feast of beauty" could re-energize current discussions of Christianity's relation to environmental attitudes and policy? Such questions are addressed in this book through an original blend of personal reflection with commentary on relevant theological and scriptural texts, literary works, music, and art.

The contact experience is intricately tied to the nature of human consciousness. When we as a species evolve, so will the nature of our contact experiences. Part 1 was first published in 1994. This new edition includes part 2, and is a groundbreaking book with all new information that explores Lyssa's contact research around the world from 1994 to present day. It is a combination of narrative, channeled material from renown channel Lyssa Royal, and personal accounts from teams of contact pioneers -- those who research ET contact in real time and reach out to initiate contact through their work with specially trained contact teams. An inside look at the ET contact experience is given, including what the human consciousness experiences during contact and how our perceptions of reality change as we meet with beings from other worlds. The authors present a breathtaking look at the contact phenomenon and its connection to the evolution of the human species.
Book Synopsis May Human Beings Hear It! by : Sergei O. Prokofieff
Download or read book May Human Beings Hear It! written by Sergei O. Prokofieff and published by Temple Lodge Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'It depends on the human being whether he merely conceives of anthroposophy or whether he experiences it.' - Rudolf Steiner During the Christmas period of 1923-4, Rudolf Steiner refounded the Anthroposophical Society at its headquarters in Dornach, Switzerland. This important event, which has come to be known as the Christmas Conference, can be studied on many levels, and its many mysteries have been central to Sergei O. Prokofieff's anthroposophical research over the years. His beginning point has been an enduring question: What did Rudolf Steiner mean when he called the Christmas Conference the 'start of a World-Turning-point of Time'? In this far-reaching work, the author - working from several different viewpoints - guides the reader towards an answer. Prokofieff suggests that the impulse of the Christmas Conference can only be reenlivened today through conscious action by individuals to experience its spiritual essence. Rather than offering dogmatic conclusions, he opens up paths of approaching this goal by throwing light on different aspects of the Conference and what lies at its heart: the Foundation Stone and its Meditation. In particular, Prokofieff explores three key perspectives: the connection of the Christmas Conference with humanity's evolution; the inner relationship of each individual anthroposophist to the Christmas Conference; and the significance of the Conference to Rudolf Steiner himself. Although this is major work of some length, the individual chapters of May Human Beings Hear It! are complete in themselves, and can therefore be studied independently of each other.

Once this formidable team gets into gear, there’s no holding back, and Harriet is hurled into a lifestyle that not even she, in all her infinite wisdom, could have been prepared for. Bookshop orders soon stack up, and Harriet is plunged into a whirlwind of launch parties, newspaper coverage and television appearances. But is all this attention exactly what she thinks?
