Medien sind allgegenwärtig und ein elementarer Teil unseres Lebens geworden. Doch welche Rolle spielen Medien für Jugendliche und wie wirken sie auf Heranwachsende? Nehmen sie eine besondere Rolle für die Sozialisation von Heranwachsenden an? Welche förderlichen oder nachteiligen Auswirkungen kann der Medienkonsum auf Jugendliche haben? Bevor diese Fragen beantwortet werden können, muss zunächst eine definitorische Basis geschaffen werden. Dazu wird der zentrale Begriff der Sozialisation bezugnehmend auf die Thesen nach Klaus Hurrelmann definiert. Darauf aufbauend soll Sozialisation im Wechselspiel zu den Medien näher betrachtet werden, weshalb auf „Mediensozialisation“, dessen Ansätze und Dimensionen eingegangen wird. Im Verhältnis dazu wird auch die „Medienkompetenz“ näher beleuchtet, um eine eindeutige Abgrenzung zu schaffen. Es wird geklärt, in welchem Verhältnis Medienkompetenz zur Mediensozialisation steht und wie diese definiert wird. Anschließend soll die Nutzung der modernen Medien anhand der JIM-Studie 2016 näher betrachtet werden, um ein aktuelles Bild der Medienlandschaft zu schaffen. Schließlich wird das Online-Netzwerk Instagram als wichtiges Medienangebot der heutigen Zeit vorgestellt und näher beleuchtet. Abschließend werden sowohl Vor- als auch Nachteile der App in den Vordergrund gestellt, um ein differenziertes Bild der App als Sozialisationsinstanz für Jugendliche schaffen zu können.

Nicht selten wird insbesondere auf Grundlage alarmierender Medienberichterstattungen über gewaltbereite, bewegungsarme und deshalb dicke Jugendliche, die zudem scheinbar immer häufiger Lernschwierigkeiten und Aufmerksamkeitsdefizitstörungen aufweisen (vgl. Kneifel 2009, S.11f.), der Eindruck erweckt, diese müssten in einer möglichst medienarmen Umwelt aufwachsen, da Medien „primär ein Risikofaktor für Heranwachsende seien“ (Süss, Lampert, & Wijnen 2010, Medienpädagogik - Ein Studienbuch zur Einführung, S.18). Dabei wird jedoch übersehen, dass Medien „zu einer Sozialisationsinstanz geworden (sind), mit und in der Jugendliche ihre Identität aushandeln (Mikos 2004, Medien als Sozialisationsinstanz und die Rolle der Medienkompetenz, S.160). Dieser Umstand konnte durch diverse Jugendforschungen belegt werden (vgl. u.a. Barthelmes 2001 und JIM-Studie 2010). So entsteht das negative Bild von „der Jugend“ mehr „aus der tendenziösen Berichterstattung der Medien [...] unter den Nachrichtenfaktoren Negativismus und Sensationalismus und (kann) nicht mit objektiven Trends der Jugendforschung belegt werden“ (vgl. Göppel 2007, S.183f.). Doch wie wirken Medien nun auf Heranwachsende? Wirken sie überhaupt und welche Rolle spielen sie dabei für die Sozialisation von Jugendlichen? Welche förderlichen und nachteiligen Auswirkungen hat der Medienkonsum für Heranwachsende und wie können diese im Umgang mit Medien unterstützt werden? Diesen Fragen soll in der vorliegenden Hausarbeit unter der zentralen Fragestellung Welche Chancen und Risiken ergeben sich aus den medialen Lebenswelten für die Sozialisation Jugendlicher? nachgegangen werden.

As an overview of the current state of research into digital gaming, the 42 papers included in this handbook focus on the social and cultural relevance of gaming. In doing so, they provide an alternative perspective to one-dimensional studies of gaming, whose agendas do not include cultural factors. The authors were invited to combine the concept of diversity with the dimensions of temporality, of time and history in reworking their contributions for this book. This temporal aspect is in a sense inherent in educational thinking. On the one hand education as intergenerational transmission has a conservative aspect: tradition being what is actually and presently transmitted from the past and/or what is considered worthwhile to be passed on.
