Book excerpt: Thirty-two albino rats of the Sprague-Dawley strain divided equally into an experimental group and a control group were trained to make brightness and pattern discriminations in a shock-avoidance situation. The experimenal group consisted of corpus callosum-sectioned, visual fiber-damaged Ss; the nature of the visual lesion was not precise. Little pattern vision was found to be mediated by uncrossed fibers. There was a significant loss of the brightness habit when the discrimination was transferred from one eye to the other, but significant savings of interocular transfer of both brightness and pattern discriminations in the control group. The contact-occluder technique of producing monocular vision was found to be unsatisfactory in the brightness discrimination.
