This book was released on 1970 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emission from O2(singlet delta(g) and O2(singlet sigma(g) is observed from photolysis of ozone-oxygen mixtures at 2537A. The O2(singlet sigma(g) is formed by energy transfer from O(singlet D) and the relative rates of removal of O(1singlet D) by O2, and the reaction of O(triplet P) and O(singlet D) with O3 are discussed as sources of both O2 singlet states. Download or read book Mechanism of Singlet Oxygen Generation by Chemical Reactions written by James K. Hurst and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objectives of the present work are to investigate mechanisms of chemical reactions which give rise to electronically excited molecular oxygen and to determine factors responsible for its deactivation in solution, thereby providing the means for optimization of gaseous singlet oxygen formation by homogeneous reaction. Studies have focused upon hypochlorite oxidation of hydrogen peroxide, this reaction having been shown to yield substantial amounts of singlet molecular oxygen . Inasmuch as the redox kinetics were not well-characterized, we have undertaken a thorough analysis of the rate behavior and reaction stoichiometry. Where tractable, measurement of singlet oxygen yields by the various reaction pathways has been made using chemical trapping agents selective for singlet oxygen.(Author).

Book Synopsis Oxygen and Living Processes by : D.L. Gilbert
Download or read book Oxygen and Living Processes written by D.L. Gilbert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of oxygen study is immense. No single work on the subject can be comprehensive, and this volume makes no such claim. Indeed, coverage here is selective and the selection is somewhat personal. However, the choice of topics is vast There are chapters on the history of oxygen, oxygen in the universe, the biochemistry of oxygen, and clinical uses of oxygen. An alternate title could have been, "Some things you always wanted to know about oxygen, but didn't know where to find them easily." Some information in this wide-ranging work can not be found elsewhere. This book is intended not only for specialists, but also for nonspecialists engaged in or curious about any field of oxygen study, particularly if they wish to know more about other fields of oxygen. Thus, those who are interested in oxygen and are historians, astronomers, chemists, geochemists, evolutionists, biochemists, physiolo gists, pathologists, or clinicians will find here much of extreme value. It is intended to be read and understood at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level. This volume is divided into four parts. The first constitutes the background for Parts II and III, and the last integrates the preceding material with an overall perspective on oxygen in living organisms.

Book excerpt: Cyanobacteria constitute the most widely distributed group of photosynthetic prokaryotes found in almost all realms of the earth and play an important role in Earth’s nitrogen and carbon cycle. The gradual transformation from reducing atmosphere to oxidizing atmosphere was a turning point in the evolutionary history of the earth and made conditions for present life forms possible. Cyanobacteria: From Basic Science to Applications is the first reference volume that comprehensively discusses all aspects of cyanobacteria, including the diverse mechanisms of cyanobacteria for the advancement of cyanobacterial abilities, towards higher biofuel productivity, enhanced tolerance to environmental stress and bioactive compounds and potential for biofertilizers. Describes cyanobacterial diversity, stress biology, and biotechnological aspects of cyanobacteria Explores the global importance of cyanobacteria Provides a broad compilation of research that deals with cyanobacterial stress responses in both controlled laboratory conditions as well as in their natural environment
