About 60000 fully reconstructed events have been selected based on 89.3 fb−1 of BABAR data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective collision c.m. energy, and so BABAR ISR data can be compared to the relevant direct e+e− measurements. From obtained 4? mass spectrum we evaluate e+e− → ?+?−?+?− cross section for the range of c.m.s. energy from 0.6 to 4.5 GeV. The systematic error of the cross section measurement is 5% and comparable with the best e+e− data. The cross sections for identified 2K2? and 4K final states also have been presented.

The initial state radiated photon allows to cover the hadronic final state in the energy range from thresholds up to ≈ 4.6 GeV. The overall size of the data sample analyzed is 232 fb−1, collected by the BABAR detector running at the PEP-II e+e− storage ring. From the Dalitz plot analysis of the K°{sub s}K{sup {+-}}?{sup {+-}} final state, moduli and relative phase of the isoscalar and the isovector components of the e+e− → KK*(892) cross section are determined. Parameters of? and? recurrences are also measured, using a global fitting procedure which exploits the interconnection among amplitudes, moduli and phases of the e+e− →K°{sub s}K{sup {+-}}?{sup {+-}}, K+K−?°,?? final states. The cross section for the OZI-forbidden process e+e− →??° and the J/? branching fractions to KK*(892) and K+K−? are also measured.

The uncertainty in the cross section measurement is typically 6-15%. We observe the J/{psi} in all these final states and measure the corresponding branching fractions.

Book excerpt: Measurements of the differential cross section of the process gamma + p to eta (o) + p were made in approximately 50 MeV intervals from threshold to 900 MeV. The yield of recoil protons is measured at a fixed momentum and angle as a function of the bremsstrahlung end point energy, and eta production is seen as a step in the proton yield at the appropriate threshold energy. The differential cross section at 90 degrees is characterized by a sharp rise near threshold reaching a maximum value of 1 microbarn/sr at 760 MeV, and then falling off to a value of 0.3 microbarn/sr at 900 MeV. A measurement of the differential cross section for 3 different angles at 790 MeV indicates that the cross section is isotropic in the center of mass at this energy. The interpretation of these results in terms of possible contributing partial waves will be discussed. (Author).

This straw-man, work-in-progress estimate of the 237U(n, f) cross section is intended to be used in sensitivity-test comparisons to other evaluations of the cross section (e.g., ENDF/B-VI [4] and ENDL [5]). The simple approach used in this work to generate a consistent cross section up to E{sub n} = 20 MeV is validated using the well-known 235U(n, f) cross section as a test case (see Fig. 1). The corresponding estimate of the 237U(n, f) cross section is plotted in Fig. 2 and listed in Table I.

Book excerpt: Electron Compton scattering is the best known fundamental QED process, however, a precision measurement of its cross section for a beam energy above 1 GeV has been lacking up to now. An updated high precision measurement of the neutral pion lifetime via the Primakoff effect (PrimEx-II) experiment was performed in Hall B of Jefferson Lab in 2010. The experiment used small angle coherent photoproduction of [Pi] 0 's in the Coulomb field of a nucleus, i.e. the Primakoff effect, to determine the lifetime with a precision of less than 1.5% . It therefore requires thorough understanding of the underlying systematic uncertainties. To facilitate that data for well known electromagnetic processes were taken concurrently with the photoproduction data. This analysis pertains to measuring the Compton scattering cross section, which occurs with similar kinematics to the primary process. The combination of the well established theory for this process with large collected statistics allowed to extract this cross section with high precision in an energy region of 4-5 GeV for 12C and 28Si targets. The results of this analysis will be presented.

The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective e+e− center-of-mass energy, so that the K+K−?+?−? data can be compared with direct measurements of the e+e− → K+K−?+?−? reaction; no direct measurements exist for the e+e− → K+K−?°?°? or e+e− → K+K−K+K− reactions. Studying the structure of these events, we find contributions from a number of intermediate states, and we extract their cross sections where possible. In particular, we isolate the contribution from e+e− → ?(1020)f0(980) and study its structure near threshold. In the charmonium region, we observe the J/? in all three final states and several intermediate states, as well as the ?/(2S) in some modes, and measure the corresponding branching fractions. We see no signal for the Y(4260) and obtain an upper limit of ?{sub Y(4260)→??+?−} · ?{sub ee}{sup Y}
